Where is the U.S. Open of Surfing held? In the 60s the US Championships was in HB. Then the Katin Pro, OP Pro. Dean Torrance (you know, the guy who sang it) moved to HB and he is the one who got us to name it "Surf City" - sorta HIS call since it's his gig.

OK hillbillybob, you go ahead and tell them that, and maybe they will drop the name for you. Then you can go after the other one, then you can have HB change its name to be the only "Surf City". If you want to keep it as a moniker, then get with the estates of Jan or Dean and take it up with them.

Actually New Jersey and North Carolina have "Surf City"'s officially named. Sorry HB you are too late to name your city as if it were some cheezy theme park (even though it kind of is).
@sfink1 Kind of funny new jersey has it named "surf city" when you can hardly surf in NJ without getting stuck by a hypodermic needle and getting aids.
Too late, Santa Cruz. Huntington Beach was immortalized as Surf City in the hearts of all Americans--and of people all around the world--by Jan and Dean in their song "Surf City" in 1963.
Nothing you or your politicians can do will change that, no matter how "officially" you, and they, proclaim it.
I remember saving my pennies and flying from New Castle, PA to California in 1979 to visit my best friend, Nancy, who lived in Huntington Beach. One of the most fun vacations I ever had--doing all the California girls things like visiting Hollywood Iwhen it was still fairly normal) and Catalina Island. I even had a date with a California boy! The photos are faded but not the memories. Thanks HB (and Nance!)
