This Ananku kata is very different from that practiced in Matsubayashiryu. It looks like another kata all together. Can anyone offer an explanation as to why that is? I'd be very grateful to know.
It might not differ at all. The real question becomes what is happening on the other side, what was Kyan envisioning when he taught Nagamine sensei. Depending on the type of attack one is defending against, as well as the height and build of the person defending, a master may teach people two different "versions" of the kata. The instructor is trying to impart self defense principles to a student. That said, the solo performance may look different because the students have to
