  • the music, the voice, the spirit of old Europe in this beautiful video

  • O teatro da Opera de Sidney tem a melhor acústica do mundo.

  • It's so beautiful!

  • The Video is wounderful! Thank you for posting ist. Is there a possibility to buy the whole Video on DVD? Best regards Beatrice, Vienna

  • If only Maria Callas had been interested in playing the role of Hanna Glawari.

  • Dear djseo1,

Have you experienced this kind of love? I also shared your feeling. It's so amazing for two people who have loved each other for long time but away far away to come together again without any anticipation.

This piece of music really touch my heart. I don't know why, not because the music can make me appreicate and to be able interpret the love of the two !

  • I don't know why but I am very much touched by this. Underneath the predictable, pastel operettaic facade, I feel this warmth and nobility of earnest true love in this duet. Bravo.

  • Incredibile, ma vero !

This great lady sing La Vedova Alegria AND The Dialoque des CarmelitesAmazing !

  • It is indeed a great performance.

  • This voice was created by Angels.

The fact that Dame Joan did with it what she did is the Miracle.

  • It was Suzanne Steele and Robert Garde playing the lead roles, when I performed with the company in Melbourne and Sydney in 1972 and then ...there was the mesmerising Anson Austin with that 'red rose' of his! Mmmmmmmm

  • I performed in the Melbourne and Sydney season of this with the Australia Opera in 1972 and was present when the Amazing ~ Dame Joan Sutherland performed this as her 'swan song for her final performance'. You are an Australian Treasure for posting this and bringing back to me so many vivid and wonderful memories. Thank you so much!

  • Thanks for posting this who is the tenor where is he from? :)

  • He is Ronald Stevens, he sang a lot for the Australian Opera, and with Dame Joan, but I can´t tell you for sure if he is australian, still, he´s wonderful!

  • Thanks :)

  • @SueAnnNivens

He's my dad! :) Lives in Sydney, still sings, wrote a lovely tribute to Joan. xo

  • "sorry for posting so much...." I see no need for apology--rather our thanks. This is the sweetest moment in the operetta.

  • My favourite ball song!!!! That lady sings really well i like it its jus that her voice too old. abit more sweetness will be perfect

  • I was lucky to see a performance of the Merry Widow in Vienna on a hot Friday night in 1999. My life changed for ever soon after this and I like to think of it as an end to my very mis-spent youth.

  • Joan loved operetta and other light music. Her 2 disc set of Operettas is beautiful. Past her best best but very touching she really feels this music.

  • I performed in Merry Widow in 1972 with the Australian Opera and was there on Dame Joan Sutherland's last night also... I remember her career fully and greatfully enjoy this performance, with ultimate respect! Thank you for this posting!!!

  • That music is pretty. I give both musicians my vote. Those are TRUE American Idols. Even if they are over the age of 28.

  • Great stuff even if Joan was a bit long in the tooth

  • Joan is past her prime here but I'm glad she didn't retire earlier because I was able to see her in her last "Norma" in Detroit and her last "Widow" in Dallas. The latter was the most fun I ever had at the theater!

  • Pitty she did not sing more comedie!!!!

    Sutherland does good in humor.
