I'm shocked that a Democrat would be questioning the authority of the Federal Reserve, since the Fed props up every lame-brained, sinister. "progressive" agenda of that horrible political party. The "progressives" don't believe the Founding Fathers did a good job; they want to change the American way of life by making Big Brother Fed run our lives, as they do not trust the American people. Real inflation is much higher than reported. The statistics have been massaged so that inflation is understated, and because of this, real GDP is much lower than reported. This is only the second leg of the recession that began in 1999 and temporarily was postponed by Greenspan with the Housing boom. Now we have to suffer even more and even longer.

It only loans out the principal thus keeping the perpetual debt cycle going until it completely collapses which is what is happening right now. I can see what you are saying, we are having that hideous SOX audit at work right now. You know the one that they put into place after Enron but it's really a tax on corporations and businesses. We can do a little fudging but not much, but I think that the Federal Reserve is so mismanaged that after the 100 years of secrecy that the sheer number of skeletons in their closet would still reveal enough to close them for good.
