I'm mad that you took 2 shots to finish the animal.. poor thing laid there wounded cause you couldn't get it done from 380 yards!! you should of moved in to 300 where you could of gotten it done with one shot.. not in the animals ass....
I'm sorry, but that doesnt look nearly close to legal :S Barely looks 3/4 curl. But, if you got it inspected then congrats on the ram!
The reason why Alberta doesn't allow to shoot a sheep based on age is because bighorns are super difficult to determine age based on annuli rings, while Dall and Stone sheep annuli are easy to see and identify
We stared at it for hours through a high quality spotting scope. We looked for a horn on one side to meet the corner of the eye before pulling the trigger. Before hunting in Canada, note the Alberta government is demanding that you hunt for a "sub-species" of sheep, namely those that are not broomed. If they broom, they usually cannot be hunted if if they are heavy horned - they will be too short! Alaska has it right for sheep hunting - pick one of two criteria - age by rings or a full curl.
My guide said I "one timed" him. I didn't tell him what to say. I think he was excited a made a good shot at just over 400 yards. The sheep would have died in a fairly short time with the shot being on the underside of his spine and through his intestines and out his opposite hip. We ran up on him for a finishing shot. It's lots of work and fun and the only shot I had for my trip! VERY glad it all worked out! Stay in shape, be good out to 400 yards and send me your youtube link next year!
I noticed that you said it was 1 shot, but to me the ram already looked hit in the hind quarters and finished off with a 2nd shot. It just got me when i hear your guide saying 1 shot.. looks more like 2 to me. Either way its a nice Ram.. I'll be doing my hunt next year with my buddy..and i cant wait!
Thanks! I spent 10 hours editing this 5 minute video! It was an adventure with 3 to 4 hours of horseback riding a day and 4 to 6 hours of hiking a day. I was literally on top of the world on top of the Rockies. I love the outdoors and I love getting physical and hunting one of these rams allowed me to enjoy both at the same time! I don't have near the hunting excitement like this back here in Pennsylvania! Here's to your next adventure!
Fantastic video. It captured the excitement of the hunt, as if I were right there amongst the sheep scat. Bill's hunting skills and enthusiasm made this a very enjoyable hunt adventure film.
Thanks! There is a full curl requirement defined as a line that must be at the front of the eye by a straight line drawn from the tip of the horn to the base of the horn at the skull while that horn is viewed in profile with the other horn. This means that most broomed (horns rubbed down) sheep are illegal in Alberta - even if they are huge and old! That's stupid! Alaska has it right. Harvest a big Dall sheep trophy based on a full curl or age! Each ring on a horn represents one year of life.

How did you determine if it was legal? Looked too short on both sides to make the trophy minimum requirement.

Why not both?! I took great photos on some wildlife big horn sheep up close and sheep meat is the best tasting game meat out there! :)

did the first shot hit him in the rear right ham and break his right rear leg?
did it angle forward?
then you shot him to finish him off?
nice hunt, looks fun!!
was it expensive, being nosy?
what your also saying is that old rams if broomed behind the curl line are illegal?
what a crock!! even if their antique??
