In other words, businesses no longer had incentive to expand and in order to stay in business they had to lay off workers and raise prices. This led to stagnation and inflation. His point was that democrats will increase government involvement in business which would bring back the 70's.

This is not funny. Period. In fact, he's not even somewhat creative. This man is wasting time, spouting about nothing, in the US Congress, while people, namely us, are struggling to pay for shelter, food, and transportation to work. Both parties shred the Constitution then have the audacity to joke about it.

Here's some suggestions:
Reducing the size of government = increasing the size of government.
Defending our nation = destroying foreign countries who have not attacked us.
Impeachable offense = lying about a BJ. (as opposed to lying into war, spying, torturing etc).

Mistergreengenes, you couldn't be more wrong. Higher taxes make nobody happy, except the people not paying them and having weath distributed to them from successful people. The countries with socialized medicine have long waiting lines and sub-par treatment compared to our system which has thrived due to open market competition and innnovation. Our schools are already socialized, and it sucks. The best schools are private schools and home taught. Our socialized schools are making us dumber.

Where do you get your information. The socialist economies have high unemployment. The health care system is a sham. Our exchange student from Belgium had to have her ingrown toenail taken care of here. In Belgium they gave her a bandaid for it. As for crime, they have as much or more than we do. If living without worrying about anything is worth the lack of opportunity than you're welcome to it. Most Americans have more initiative than that.

He forgot to mention that Republican policies are from the 1920's. You know the laissez-faire policies that gave us the Great Depression. Instead this new version is "supply side" (aka trickledown or p!ss on the non-rich) economics. Until we can get are head around the fact that the democrats and republicans have a virtual monopoly on our system... ie just ask one what would happen if you voted independent, they would say "your wasting your vote", then there is no point for us to take sides, there is no side. Both of them have really flawed big government ways of dealing with problems that do no represent the constitution or the will of the people.

McCotter looks like he's from outer space, which would be okay if his ideas weren't so bizarre.
He needs to be booted from Congress, but I'm not optomistic for these reasons:
1) He was on the commission that gerrymandered the lines for his district.
2) As election-time nears he has a habit of sending out a lot of mail & making a lot of automatic calls at gov't expense (illegal campaigning?).
3) He has a large war-chest (special interests & Tom Delay have been involved in the past).
