  • LOVE the intro

  • 0:58 fuuuuck

  • Hail Friedman

  • S.O.B

  • To be honest, Marty can't really "shred", but he can fucking PLAY. That's what makes this guy my favorite guitar player. Respect to him even without Megadeth.

  • @andresoacuna Finally, someone gets it!!

  • @andresoacuna In my opinion, Marty is better without Megadeth.

  • for me this is too much! Blues need a solo more slowly.. But this is my opinion. Sorry for my english :P

  • Marty is awesome , maybe Marty would play a blues jam with a Fender guitar, anyway Marty cool

  • @pochifer1 marty dnt like fenders cus theyre not a kool shapeXD

  • Cmon dudes, is stupid to be fighting whos best. Just shut the fuck up, and let the masters talk with their guitars. If you dont like, just simply walk away and let the others rock. >>IN MY OPINION<< For me, Marty is better than Petrucci, for the feeling dude. But if we enter in "virtuosity" and that shit, damn Petrucci is better, he can play anything that marty boes, BUT never get that feel. Rock n roll ain't noise pollution my buddies \m/,

  • Marty's the amezing guitar melody.

  • marty and that camera man are the best!

  • This vid should get banned I didnt know it was ok to have sex with kids in 96 lol

  • Although he is soloing over a typical blues chord progression, he's way different than any blues player, even in this video he shows his own way of following chords and expressing melodies, and this is like his signature. Marty is one of the greatest and most original guitarists of all time.

  • Marty sei Grandissimo!!!!!!!

  • This is what an angel sounds like.

  • Man... that start... pure eargasm

  • I really like the blues and am very interested in learning the classics but there's only so much u can learn from searching "blues" on youtube lol does anyone have songs/artists that would be worth my time to look up? thx a bunch!

  • @theNish45 if you dont already know, then check out stevie ray vaughan. thats some blues for you

  • Marty follows chord changes so well, it's amazing!

  • Metal is fun and bad ass, but where i live i gotta play blues and 60s rock to make money at gigs.

  • He plays blues like Clapton but faster

  • If marty friedmen and jason becker were one person with both there skills together i would cum my pants *no homo*

  • This sex to my ears... and Paul Gilbert plays amazing blues too, although he gets quick and repetitive it sounds amazing. I think anyone playing guitar is amazing. Sound is all about opinion and preference. If you listen to jazz cool if not cool, don't be such a bitch about it

  • If u play guitar and don't play blues ur a fag

  • @MARKOXDXD i play guitar, i but i dont play blues , im not a fag u probly dont even play guitar, nd u copeid taht from the other video

  • @ChineseTOP First of all it's a joke dude chill out, i mean u got to be a stupid fuck if u think that if u don't play blues ur actually a fag haha, second i do play guitar and for me the blues is the father of rock and variations, influence me a lot in my playing and third just curious what do u play on guitar ?

  • @MARKOXDXD right nwo im interested in grunge nd alternative, i play 80srock, 70s, nd everything i like

  • It seems many people just can't grasp the concept of technical blues. If its all about the feeling then let this man play a hundred times faster than BB king because it's obvious that is his preferred approach. Musical purity is chaos.

  • Blues turned Metal!

  • Jesus fucking christ this guys good......he doesn't even play blues ever...he hates it.

  • @toforlaw it doesn't sound like he hates blues

  • thats whats so good about marty he can play anything and everything and play it well with his unique style

  • Fuck it! I'm cumming!

  • man martys pinky hangs down so low when he plays. definitaley a unique style that slays anything else!

  • Can somebody, please, tell me where does this video come from? Is it from Young Guitar or maybe somekinda video school, like "Melodic Control"?

  • it's so much more than that

  • That's evidence that metal players can play the blues

  • @mediblue9 thats not evidence

  • @mediblue9 Heavy Metal is technically blues you fucking idiot.

  • @RiceKiller191 no shit, and riding a bike is like driving a car

  • @Wojteo92 And taking a dump is like masturbating.

  • @RiceKiller191 Not really. Maybe metal in its earliest stages it was but if you listen to most metal that has come out since thrash there really isn't a lot of blues going on that often.

  • @codebabe Original Heavy Metal yes. Black sabbath is a was a blues band when they were called Earth. They played the same stuff just with distortion and different lyrics.

  • id like to hear him do some chicken pickin :p

  • @pinescentedwoodsmoke haha It'd be hard with his right hand technique I'd imagine.

  • Speech- Less!

  • man you guys talkung aboui t all of your favourite blues players and I don't think any of them are even blues like yngwie is not blues, as far as I know paul gilbert isn't either haha (and yes I realise I'm going to get -60 for this ;)

  • @ridethelightning64 Well to Paul Gilberts defense he is a VERY talented played. In fact he is up there among my favorites. Probably Marty, SRV, Paul, Dave Mustaine. He can play the shred blues much like Marty here can. It's just a different style of blues.

  • @Doombot2point0 I never said Paul Gilbert wasn't very talented I agree completely that guy is insane, but I'm a little confused by the "different style of blues" thing, care to explain? lol

  • @ridethelightning64 Well He plays a fast blues but not a shredding blues like Yngwie. Ugh. He annoys the hell out of me. But these two can pull off fast blues with feeling not just a mess of notes over some bluesy chords like Yngwie.

  • @Doombot2point0 totally man haha I agree, now that I get it :P

  • @Doombot2point0 yngwie is beast

  • yngwie malmsteen is my favorite blues player

  • Wow you do not listen to blues much do you?

  • @twainname yes yes i love his blues shredding blues lol

  • Augenatic@ WTF?

  • Haha

  • Oh my fucking god

  • his tone is crappy. andy timmons is a great player with fantastic tone.

  • never heard stormy monday played like this...nice

  • This is probably one of the nicest blues solos by a non-blues player. Joe Satriani is probably the other shredder who can do blues very well. (Whereas Vai and Petrucci can't IMHO).

  • They're all better than me anyway so I retract that comment.

  • Don't retract your comment, you were right.

And BTW Yngwie cant play blues to save his life

  • @1madaboutguitar I beg to differ. Yngwie is an excellent blues man.

  • @1971SuperLead Thats OK man, but just think he doesn't have the feel for it to be honest and plays it farrr too technically.

  • @1madaboutguitar, He's no BB King but he can play them blues quite well. However, I find that youtube doesn't have any very good examples of his playing of the blues. A friend of mine played me a CD a couple times of Yngwie playing the blues and I was most impressed with his feel. I suppose the studio was a better avenue for him then playing live.

  • It's not like he's trying to save his "guitar player"* repution by playing blues !

Anytime he's playing a tone from Hendrix, I just wanna scream this: Blaspheme !

    * Seriously, does anyone hear a god damned thing whenever he's playing?

  • @thewaveof93 Are you on about Yngwie?

  • @1madaboutguitar Wow, you obviously haven't heard Malmsteen's song blue, it is full of blues and emotion. Fyi, malmsteen is one of the most emotional guitar players of all time.

  • @TheFigueroa007 Malmsteen is amazing but terrible all at the same time. Marty is just amazing.

  • @1madaboutguitar I wouldn't discredit Yngwie actually. His song Blue is very Bluesy without there being any Blues Chord progressions, that's pretty clever. But yeah Marty is better.

  • paul gilbert can. I think he's a better blues player than marty.

  • @nr900 Zakk Wylde? Slash? They simply started out mastering the blues, because Hard Rock and Heavy Metal stem from the blues. Tons of metal guitarists play blues, only the like all-out death metal guitarists are the shredders that can't play blues. Vai and Petrucci can definitely both play blues. Dream Theater covers Pink Floyd (which is slow blues), and I've seen a video of Steve Vai playing "Little Wing", and it was a little more metal than Jimi's version, but it was still blues at heart.

  • @69ofdoom dude vai was zappas guitarist along with zappa of course. that was all about jazz and blues and btw vai is grduated in music so he sure knows how to play the blues

  • @nr900 You serious? Petrucci can play ANYTHING. Go listen to Metropolis at last year's Download festival, he does like a 5 minute blues solo.

  • @SgtWreck Metropolis is a great tune! I wish I'd been there.

  • @nr900 what? Hmmm I completely disagree. I don't think Via or Satriani can play blues very well where as Friedman can VERY well and Perucci can play some amazing smooth-jazzish stuff (look up rock discipline ex 16 if you haven't already)!

  • @nr900 not really convinced! he seems to do a guitar lesson and is happy to finish it after almost two (2) minutes. do listen to real blues men black and whites.

  • @nr900 check steve vai blues improvisation, I´m sure you´ll change you´re mind.

  • @nr900 paul gilbert and zakk wylde do also do some incredible blues playing solos that aren't pure shred

  • @nr900 paul gilberts got blues too.. i think its cuz vai chooses not to pick a genre when he plays, completely his own style which is great

  • @nr900 who said he is a non-blues player? just because he is famouse for playing metal doesnt means he is not a blues player

  • @Alvaro1762 He's famous for being a Metal player, not blues, he plays blues nicely.

  • @nr900 john5 has got some cool blues waves too ;)

  • What video is this from?

  • Good God....I think this might be the best blues improv Ive ever heard. Yeah, that's right old people.

  • yeah its good, but wrong tone IMO. Still an amazing player.

  • hes marty friedman, he is the god and if he calls it blues then he can call it blues so that shud be good enough for all of you haters out there!

  • if you ask me then that is bad ass blues! ;D

  • i thinks thats not exactly blues... but there something, like the presence of blues i dont know...

anyway marty don't play blues and the solo was great so fuck off

  • mojojason It was a very good blues line you just need to get your BUTT BRAIN out of the EMPTY

  • people talk shit like playing blues is really hard. im pretty sure marty could have just played the pentatonic scale. But he tried to add a new flavor to your average blues licks. So now people say he cant play blues. people on youtube are such crackheads.

  • Yes perfectly explained shaqdadd11 but alot of blues fundamentalists cant handle anyone playing a note outside th pentatoinic

Mainly because if that was accpeted as blues then they be forced to take a look at their own playing and realise how limited it is

And lets face it, most people who just stick to pentatonic blues do so because they cant play anything else...sorry

  • yeah if your watch melodic control marty actually says that you can stick to the pentatonic scale and solo or you cant try to be origional. So its really not like marty cant play the pentatonic scale, its just that he tries to play origional stuff. i mean hell man i can play pentatonic scale (but playin marty's style is still very challenging to me).

  • what you obviously don't realize is that blues is all about feeling and emotions, not just the pentatonic scale... And im guessing you mean blues pentatonic.

  • Hmmm... I think you have taken my comment out of context.

My comment was directed at people who think that anyone who plays a single note outside a blues scale doesn't know how to play blues.

  • k i definitely agree with you then

  • stfu .. he's still metal though he plays some blues.. tard

  • So what asshole? He sucks at blues. Douche.

  • no he doesnt suck at blues.. i wanna see other metal guitarists do better.

  • Yes mojojasons... well done for taking ignorance to an new paradigm

  • No problem..... Not a Marty Friedman fan....And this video sucks...Sorry for having an opinion... Sissy!

  • omg nice but he needs a fender or a gibson

  • this one make me roll a tear, marty is so fucking amazing.....

  • great

  • I'm pretty sure that's Kenny G. playing the guitar not Marty F. And what's up with his right hand? Someone please show him how to pick the right way. Just kidding !

    Marty's pretty good, I think.

  • lol i know this guy:))hes saying in dutch, mannn this bleus the way marty plays is awesomeee:)))he love's it very much:))

    5 stars from,because i also love blues:))

  • GODDAMNHORSESHIT, wat kan Blues toch lekker zijn...

  • I've always recognized Marty as a super talented player, since probably the late 80's when I got his album "dragon kiss" never seen play though, it seems he has a very unusual angle on his right wrist .. anyone else pondered about that ? is there a thought behind it, or is it just the way his technique developed .. just curious .. I wish I could play like him :)

  • He said that he thought the string rang out better whit his wrist like that. I wouldnt recommend it :D

  • LOL, yeah the standard position is what I used, I tried playin like that, but my best advice is, almost straight from Martys mouth himself, but it is to not even look at you picking hand, and just do what feels best.

  • But what if it feels right to hold ur pick with ur thumb and pinky, and then you get good with the left hand, but ur right hand is getting hurt, wouldnt you wish for ya to learn the best way from the beginning`?

  • he plays that way because he doesn't want any palm mute on the strings (cleaner sound)

  • Marty rules, but this tone doesn't fit in blues.

  • thats because he is using too much distortion and his guitar his a metall guitar. your right man but otherwise it is a cool solo

  • Of course. I didn't say it wasn't cool though. D:

  • On the contrary, I love his tone. And that's not because his tone sounds like mine.

  • shit he's a god!

  • Marty's hair looks like Sideshow Bob's

    LOOOOOL

  • hes realy good but he is far far away from the real blues masters like bbking but its ok because its not her stile :)

  • Her style?

  • Marty is a man, not a woman.

  • hahaha hilarious XD

  • I find the fact that someone thought marty was a women simply hilarious .

    What an idiot! ha ha

  • lol

  • i've never heard of this guy before but i gotta say he's pretty good despite the fact hes playing blues on a jackson lol it looks wierd

  • You can play blues on any instrument.

  • Sometimes I play blues on my BC Rich Warbeast.

  • ha ha awesome, post a vid up sometime

  • lol yeah if I get a video cam

  • this is the stormy monday progression . am i right?

the ascending major progression sounds like it

  • If I could thumbs down your comment 100 times I would.

  • Hey ,take it easy man, i´m marty´s fan, but I have my opinion about blues...

  • The best

  • i liked his early clean shit with like cacophony and stuff... think it was carvin stuff idk... i am not much of sound guy

  • carvin indeed, v220

  • can anyone tell me what type of blues progression this is??

  • Theres one thing that bothers me about this guy..His dredful choice of guitars...That thing sound flat as a broom handle.

  • sure. This guitar is built for distorsion and its clean tone sucks balls

  • a good guitar sound good clean and distorted. his tone sucks when he switches to distorion. it's not the guitar though, i think it's his amp

  • u are completely wrong, don't forget that the tone on the actual vid is far away from the real tone, plus he's probably playing a little solid state combo....he's real gear consisted of custom audio amplifiers preamp 3 se+ and vht2150 powermp! the best of the best!!

the jackson ke-2 is so versatile, he's atcual model is ke-1, look for his albums: music obssession, introduction... most of teh clean parts are from he's jackson ke-1

  • lol hardly a duo

  • whats the name of this video ?

  • Marty Friedman is a god among men

  • he knows the theory but he break it

    damn marty rulez

  • He's very good but still not as good as Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix said it himself. "The blues is easy to play but hard to feel". Marty friedman attacked the blues too technically but don't get me wrong..He did an amazing job but not it wasn't as fluid as Hendrix. Hear country blues by him and you'll know what I mean.

  • I've never seen why people freak out about hendrix, yes he 'feels' the music and sets his guitar on fire but i haven't seen any videos that have impressed me. I can feel what I'm playing all i want and i can still be sucking at the same time...

  • The only difference between Marty Friedman and Hendrix is drugs.

The only reason why Hendrix was so fucking great so idolized is because everyone in that fucking period of time was high out of theirs minds in LSD and pot.

  • lol i've never thought of that, that's hilarious

  • Sorry, Jimi is a legend and one of the most innovative guitar players in the world, but you have to get over him one day. It's been a long time, and there are far better guitarists out there. Marty Friedman is light years more superior because he can cover grounds of any style of music incredibly.

  • tht lick that he does starting from 1:09 is amazingly beautiful. no one can compare to marty friedman, and his brilliant guitar mind.

  • just beacause somethings pentatonic doesnt make it blues

  • how so when blues follows the pentatonic scale?

  • your an idiot

  • ok let me reword that

not just blues uses the pentatonic scale

and not all blues uses the pentatonic scale

    but this is blues

and it does follow a pentatonic scale,

2nd blues and jazz created rock and roll

    rock and roll created metal

so how can u people say metal did not come from blues?

  • Agreed. Listen to the first metallica record, its nothing more than brutally fast and furious blues music.

  • yup dimebag / kirk / friedman / mustaine etc etc all use speeded up licks that were played 80 years ago by black men sat on their porch moaning about their woman who left them weeks earlier

  • Marty is known not to follow any scales at all >_>

  • and thats better just make them or base them of if you play them by school youlle end up ending what thetheori want instead of whats in your head, invetually you just want to bring your ideas to live if theyre theorythically correct that isnt the first matter.

  • What the hell did you just say?

  • hehehe a mess post, never mibnd then.must have typed it when i was drunk :p

  • Actually I know theory quite well cause I'm a music student and it actually helps you know what you're doing and how to break out of it and do really crazy stuff. It's awesome, some of the craziest stuff comes from jazz/fusion players that know theory super well and know how to break the rules and make great music easily cause they know how. But Marty's the best he's my favorite guitar player of all time, hes pure genious and I love his stuff. But yea theory can make the music you no even better.

  • it can help you allot offcourse but you know it inventually goes al around in your head and the theori are like bridges to remember what you want to play or help you with the position to put your fingers one, invetually it are your fingers that do the thinking.

  • :P not following ANY scales AT ALL wouldn't sound good, idiot

  • this is great Blues, and Metal's roots are steeped in Blues as well as Classical, Euro Folk, MiddleEastern Folk, Jazz, in essence, it's really a fusion of many other genres.

  • THAT WAS FUCKINGGGGG SICK
