Hart is just one of many Democrats including - Bill Cinton, John Edwards, Anthony Weiner, Charlie Rangel, Bill Jefferson, Rod Blagojevich and other- who are nothing more than common criminals! And of course, since they are Democrats, they get by with it!
Anyone have the 1984 Illinois primary ad that ruined any chance Hart had at winning the nomination? It linked Mondull to Chicago ward boss Fast Eddie Vrdolyak. The ad was working, but Hart--being the pious pinhead he;s always been--ordered them off the air. Except his campaign couldn't get the ads off the air, and the story became "Hart can't even run his own campaign right."
@swami1 I think it was due more to the famous red phone ad aired in Illinois - a theme Hillary Clinton picked up on in the famous 3AM phone call ad. Agreed here that Hart - who had a 6 point lead the final weekend before Illinois - would have probably won the nomination if he won Illinois.
@tommiej3 Yes, I agree he probably would have gotten the nomination. The bottom dropped out after Illinois. But he wouldn't have beaten Reagan. Reagan was unbeatable that year. Hart might have won a couple more states than Mondale did, though, and would have positioned himself well for '88 (until Monkey Business, of course).
@swami1 Agreed - no one would have beaten RR that year. Little known but true fact told to Newsweek reporter who had to hold it until after Nov. election: that if Mondale had lost two of the three Southern primaries Super Tuesday he would have dropped out. Hart won FL, Mondale won Alabama (with a good black vote) and Mondale won GA by only 4-5K votes! Imagine if Hart was able to swing 2500 voters or pull in another 5000.
Sen. Hart definitely would have faired better against Pres. Reagan. I still think the best competitor in '84 would have been the Sen. Kennedy in a 'I told you so' moment, but he did not run. I do agree with Flynnster93 that Sen. Hart probably would have been very formidible in '88; but there ar so many what-ifs in politics, right?
@framptonorchablis Right on. It was a bunch of platitudes. There were no new ideas in his platform, just the same old stuff with a different spin, pretending to support entrepreneurism more than New Deal/Great Society liberals but without any substance.

I'm glad that Gary Hart was not elected, he would of made a horrible president, even if he was the democratic nominee in '84 instead of Mondale, Regean would of still kicked his ass in the election

Its halarious that Hart acted like he wasn't an insider, just like Obama... There is really no difference. If you don't represent special intrests you aren't going to be a major candidate for president. Where do you think Hart got the money for these commercials? WALL STREET!!!
It doesn't matter who any body put up in '84 Reagan was the "Great Communicator." Reagan could out debate anyone look at the whole Age Issue thing with Mondale. Mondale had that oh man I had just lost the election look on his face. The Reagan Wit was a political powerhouse all in itself. Though, if you out Reagan's resilience against Obama, Reagan would win hands down. Reagan unlike Obama, never needed a Teleprompter. Obama sounds like an idiot without the Teleprompter.
That's true, but then the US Economy would have tanked in 1991 like it did for Bush Sr.,Bob Dole would have been the 1992 Republican Nominee for President and win that election (President Hart would have lost).Maybe in the afterlife we can see it all happen in technicolor.
Hart was kind of like Clinton, before Clinton. Very intelligent. Confident while being outside the establishment. New way of thinking in his own party, even took a few budgeting ideas from the Republicans...
...And he had problems keeping his thing in his shorts. If he could have avoided this issue, he would have easily been elected in 1988, as he was a way, way stronger candidate than Michael Dukakis, with much better economic and security plans.
Senator Hart is an intellectual & was more competent than any other candidate in '84 & '88 (from either party). But our citizens were too ighorant to see through the BS!

A man that can change his name from "Hartpence" to "Hart" is not suitable for the Presidency. An intelligent professional politican : thankgod he liked the ladies ( except his wife )......
I agree somewhat about the shortening of last name (Sen. Hart's). It's a lot of packaging & BS "marketing" of virtually ever Presidetiial candidate nowadays.
I think Hart had a lot to offer our country. My opinion; you're surely a Conservative Republican & didn't like him from the get-go.....
Well guess what? Those 'liberal dorks' of which you speak are going to control Congress in a few weeks! Don't like it? Then stop whining and GET OVER IT!!
these ads are way too general to have any effect. new ideas are mentioned often, as is the perennial fav political term "special interests." hart's voice makes me fall asleep too.
This looks like an ad form an 80s TV show that is supposed to depict someone running for president in the future
