I am an old fucker, I saw J. Geils in 1972 in Grade 10 but I digress, before Aerosmith came along J. Geils was THE American band, they OWNED IT !!! although this rendition kinda' sucks the version of Floyd's Hotel on "The Morning After" contains the best biting harp articulation I have ever heard to this day, like the other viewer commented " this is the way it's supposed to be done kid's" let the hate mail begin ....
by far, the first of the wildest concerts I ever went to, what a night, probably still haven t recovered, the nitecap was at the 1776 Pub on the Common til whenever rockin on the bar on the tables, those were some days, went to HS next day, started to sober @ end of school, That nite was Beautiful
Fantastic stuff. I saw them many times at the Fillmore East. They used to be the opening act and then moved up to second billing. I remember one night they upstaged Ten Years After, who was the headliner. Then they finally became the headliner and the Fillmore East closed. It was only around for 3 years here in NY. Every show they did was great. They always gave it their all and never disappointed. When they reunited, I saw them in NJ and at Jones Beach. They were just as good as ever.
It's been a while. I used to go see them regularly when they were still playing local high schools (I made the posters for Bishop Fenwick), and a little club in Ipswich called Stonehenge. It was great to live in the Boston area then. So many great bands.
Caught every show in NY from '74 on.....PARTY MF JUST DANCE AND PARTY! Witnessed Peter & Co stop the show...so they could escort Academy of Music security back stage so we could dance and party in front row / in aisle/dance in front of the stage :) Wolf just ripped it up!!! Peter Wolf, Magic Dick, J Geils , Seth Justman (orig members) Great memories!!! :)
@gintarytemergyte what about stephan joe Bladd?? J Geils grew-up and later dated Meryl Streep both are south jersey natives...I'm looking for that Wnew 102.7 FM radio TV spot they used to run featuring these guys ripping it up doing Hard Drivin' man medoly with Magic jumping in over Geils blarring away....awesome!
those were the days where Air Guitars were still experimental. What Peter is playing is one of the very first prototypes of the Air Guitar as we know it today. They had the concept down, but had not yet made Air Guitars transparent.
Great footage. Such a great live band.I It was a shame thay had to write their own songs because like the Stones before them they shined so bright covering the R& B classics.I mean the studio albums were good and they did finally have some hits but at what cost?? It is nice to hear that they are back where they onced belonged and still kickin' it !! Blow your face out daddy !!! This is woofa groova with the green teeth !! Raputa la beauta !!
Amazingly enough... before they were the huge phenomenon they became, we used to go see them in Worcester at schoolyard dances. 50 cents to get in and a free beer to go with admission. 1969? All so fuzzy now. But 1000 kids were jumping around and the parents? Well, their mouths were so far open their chins were scraping the ground.

one of or best white american band of the time in my opinion .lots of personality , strong characters in the band too.Definitely great. classic st album.
I saw them a couple years before this show at the Orephum when they just released their first Lp, they opened for Johnny Winter & what a mind blowing night at the age of 15 there i was with the J. Geils band when they were still greasers and Johnny Winter And with a light show !! those where the days:)
you may hear it that way, but most of us - audio & video techs - were as just busy keeping the crowd from climbing over us to get to the band - crazy baby - as trying to get the sound and picture right. Listen to Peter about 'some people over here' and it's a cue to Jesse of Dave to leave the board and bail out a problem - Back then there was no separate f.o.h. mixer or anything more than a basic board and a pair of speaker stacks - mono - and two roadies to make it happen ....
incredible live band. no band in their right mind would want to follow them on stage.peter wolf is a front man par excellence.old saucer lips(mick jagger) can't hold a candle to the wolfman. this is awesome. i hope you have more of this footage to post
I saw these guys @ Dutch festival Pinkpop in 1980 and they blew everybody off-stage that day. I'd only known them by name till then, originally visited the festival for the likes of the Jam, the Specials, Joe Jackson, but they, as well as the Van Halen-guys - live as terrible as can be in contrary to some nice studio-stuff - were totally demolished by JGB.. :-)
Hello Bobvidpix, it might be b&w and slightly better than telerecording -just jokin', it looks good enough to me :-) - but it's definitely a great and great sounding from what imho still is the best live-act ever.. (sorry, Mick cum suis :-P) (tbc)
Sadly, not gonna happen. The idiots in charge of the R&RHOF have their heads so far up their asses that it's not funny. There are so many great acts that aren't in, but even worse, there are so many other acts that are in and don't deserve it.
Brings back fond memories from my teenage years, remember when I purchased "Full House", best live album ever IMO. Rock on!
