  • alice in chains

  • jerry understands that die hard alice fans are always hungry of riff and heavy guitar tones like this, and he fucking always deliver one way or another. RIFF LORD!!!!

  • no description available

  • I saw AIC 3 days ago playing in maquinaria fest in my country for the first time ever. And as a huge fan of Alice and Layne, i must say that Duvall voice its amazing, truly powerful, its kinda gay and shit but whatever is his style and i respect that. Cantrell is god and the rest of the band was amazing too, sean its one of my favorite drummers

  • If you listen VERY carefully at the very beginning of this song, you could hear the intro acoustic guitar riff to "Thanks Anyway" from Jerry Cantrell's solo album Degradation Trip. I'm surprised no one noticed that.

  • @darkahnubis omg.. i ve listened that acoustic riff but i havent noticed that it was taken from thanks anyway.. you re very clever bro

  • @stavroswrc -Yeah I just noticed that recently after hearing this song so many times!! LOL

  • death is ma coming right brother i love all of u all bye alll of you drink piece as we fall together goodbye all sleep in my peace much grace too you

  • Duvall sounds pretty damn good on this album

  • Even without Layne, and damn was he a major force in not only AIC, but among all the frontmen of his time, AIC can still pull off new shit. That's a testament to their will to keep their standards up and keep moving.

DuVall isn't Layne. He wasn't meant to be Layne. He was meant to be DuVall. Separate people, separate styles. Both can/could fucking kill it on the mic, and that's not even mentioning the talented Cantrell tossing his hat in. Take it at face value and knock off the shit, yeah?

  • @skylermeany Cool story Bro...

  • Well I still can't get over Duvall, no good in my book. I am TRULY surprised that even half of you ACCEPT this, nevermind like it. But idk, whatever. At least Duvall is alive, unlike Layne and Mike Starr. It's too bad such geniuses can be such retards and failures. They band, the legacey, the music and the message all were a success and will live on. Unfortunately there's nothing respectable about what Layne did to himself. It's such a shame. Im tired of hearing AIC w/out the real deal.

  • i love the album, singer is excellent, but knock the shit off if a rap audience saw white dude replace a black rapper you could expect some resistance

  • pretty damn good !

  • Finding out William is black changes your opinion? Stupid. Proved your racist. I think he did fucking awesome for Alice in Chains on this album. I don't give a fuck if he's black, white, Mexican, Japanese, who the fuck cares? He did great. AIC4LIFE :)

  • they're rawer album seens facelift

  • Has anyone heard of the band "Comes with the fall" It's William Duvall's band before he as in Alice in Chains. They're not too bad, they have a few songs on you tube.

  • @skylermeany

you are retarded dickhead, u dont deserve to listen to that music.

  • Haha also, I still can't believe I'm the only one who hears the resemblance to Dragula with the chorus, it's almost exact!

  • I know i can't change anything though. I respect their decision. I respect those who like it. This was my fav new AIC song, until i found out the truth. Anyway, all i mean is that if John Lennon sang a damn Ray Charles song it would SOUND WEIRD. Black people naturally have different sounding vocals than white people. Hands down case closed. I guess it adds a new sound to it though. If i ever do get over/accept this, it will take years. I dont think i can.....

  • @skylermeany shut up bitch and listen to the music. duvall is black so wat? he is a great singer and has done his job very well. layne is dead get over it u pussy

  • @skylermeany Uh, I never even KNEW he was black until I saw this comment. His voice fits the band very well.

  • @skylermeany What, you mean, you listened to this song, thought it was amazing, then found out he was black and though that the singing was shit?

    Lolwut? Who gives a fuck?

  • @skylermeany racism and music don't belong together, you probably meant to search Hitler speech's or something

  • I can't believe more people don't hate this guy. Just because demi-gods like someone doesn't mean i have to. I miss Layne. Wish this was just AIC three piece without DuVall. That DuVall guy should be doing something on his own maybe, but not taking the place of Layne. Pffft. Not to be racist again, but in itself, Layne was white. People get pissed when white people cover B.B.King but not when black people sing white people vocals.

  • I liked it when I imagined Jerry Cantrell singing. Now that I know the truth I'm disgusted. It's not because he's black, but that certainly doesn't help his cause. I just wish it was Jerry Cantrell singing :( . I don't think DuVall should have ever been let into the band. Obviously some people feel differently. I feel deceived since DuVall is portrayed as "Back up vocalist" in the check my brain music video, that is false advertising.

  • @skylermeany Dude you're fucking racist as shit. If you liked it before you knew who it was then why does it even matter?

  • @skylermeany i dont think anyone even knows where to begin, regarding this dump of a comment of yours. absolutely fucking ridiculous

  • @skylermeany Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Wonder are black. Slash is part black. If you can't listen to great music because of the singer's race, then fuck off. Bastard.

  • Best Alice In Chains album since Dirt.

  • One of the best new AIC songs! Maybe the best of the new ones.

  • great song!!! fuckerss

  • AIC are really the last of their kind. Still making music the way you're supposed to

  • what a magnificent song this is. duvall is a fine fine singer and a worthy successor to staley. he is the right kind of vocalist for alice in chains, but he is his own man and does not attempt to copy staley. are people SERIOUSLY complaining about him? ridiculous. this is a mighty album - their best since "dirt" - and it shows bands half their age what rocking hard means. jerry cantrell is one of the most underrated guitarists and songwriters of the last twenty years, in my opinion.

  • I love the new stuff and thank you for posting it I have a copy in my car that I bought and damn is it great!

  • AIC still has the same dark, powerful vibe. I can dig it

  • Previous singer was great, yet 50% of the effort was Mr Cantrell in the Chorus , so yes he will be missed , yet AIC was 80% without him, so move on, embrace and enjoy, they are still making great music , not like Soundgarden that just came back together and not quite making up to what was expected, AIC is at least are making justice to a legacy of a great band...

  • This song reminds me of when I left The Jedi Order. After years of service to them I realized they they had become corrupt , arrogant and full of false promises. And I wanted out. The Sith immediately tried to "recruit" me. But their feeble attempt at persuasion was laughable. They're just a bunch of blind slaves serving one man. I chose to serve myself. Not the light side , not the dark side. My own side. I then became a one man kill squad. An assassin. Just me , my lightsabers and my ship.

  • @Devastator38 right on, man.

  • Saying AiC is only Jerry is pretty misleading. What about Man in the Box? Angry Chair? Some of AiC biggest hits and darkest songs were written by Layne. I don't care if Jerry wrote more hits; that doens't mean he was AiC and Layne wasn't. And Jerry solo albums don't stand up to AiC by any stretch of the imagination. Why? Because Layne's voice was way more versatile and interesting. That's why this is my top song off the new album - Duvall's voice is way more dynamic than Jerry's.

  • @aggiebem I agree. Layne wrote very brooding, sinister songs like Again, Nutshell, Frogs, I Stay Away, Rotten Apple, Rain When I Die, Junkhead, Sickman, Hate to Feel, etc. and the ones he did with Mad Season. Cantrell's solo stuff is good but compared to his Alice material, it doesn't even come close. He sings well but he's a better songwriter and guitarist, which is why Alice hired DuVall instead of staying as a three piece band.

  • @aggiebem just in case you forgot, jerry is not the lead vocalist, he is the guitar player, who isnt just a guitar player but in my opinion this band would never have existed without cantrell. the guy no doubt is the main force brhind the band, he can always get someone to sing for alice and he writes the fucking songs as alice in chains, take this one for example, do you think if layne was alive can still write heavy shit like this? i loved layne, of course he sung better than cantrell.

  • @jedsebastian Of course Jerry's not the lead vocalist and of course he's the driving force behind AiC. But most of the album's mixed with his voice up front, not Duvall's, which sounds more to me like a Jerry solo album, not AiC. So I'd like to hear more songs like this, with Duvall up front. I still like the album and AiC is my favorite band, but Jerry up front sounds more like solo Jerry to me, not AiC. Know what I mean? And Duvall's got a killer voice and range.

  • @aggiebem I agree. I've hypothesized Cantrell put himself upfront for the majority of the album so older Alice fans could warm up to DuVall (aka "the new guy"). DuVall is obviously the better singer, but long time fans and/or Layne apologists would criticize Alice for shoving DuVall down their throats and just letting him sing lead on everything. Now more people want DuVall up front for the next album in the role that Layne had on their previous albums because he performed so well.

  • @jedsebastian Exactly, like Tony Iommi is Sabbath. Without his (and Jerry's) riffs, you don't have the same music.

  • This is not High Quality by ANY means. Don't put HQ when it isn't HQ you fucking retard.

  • you know up until this cd came out, I always said the best band of all time that HAD to replace their lead singer was ACDC.

Not anymore, its clearly AIC now. May Staley RIP, but DuVall is carrying the torch like a mad man.

and don't get me wrong, I'm a recovering addict who relates to AIC's entire catalog....and part of addiction is death. Layne was the personification of an addicts death, and through him, and DuVall, AIC's legacy lives on

  • Best Alice In Chains album since Dirt.

Oh, and fuck Layne Staley. He was nothing special... he was a fuckin' junkie. Cantrell is AiC. (Bring on the hate.)

  • @DarthMohammed Obvious troll is obvious.

  • @SuiTobi Nah, it's just an opinion. That's why I put that part in parenthesis. I've gotten to where I expect people to hate in response to what they disagree with. It comes with the territory here on YouTube. Actually, I'm beginning to think people don't really know what a troll is, as much as they throw the word around. Disagreeing with an opinion doesn't make it trolling.

But yeah, I see why you thought that. Glad I could take this moment to clarify myself.

  • @DarthMohammed Actually I didn't think that, clearly it was your own opinion, but it's as much trolling as anything else, considering you only wrote that comment to get replies. Sure you think you're all intelligent now, since you got your time to "clarify yourself", but seems like I trolled you.

  • @SuiTobi No, I didn't write that to get replies. I wrote that to show my expectations... to make a prediction.

I'm not gonna hold back an opinion just because I think it may upset people. But I'm not trying to start a fight, either. I gave my opinion of this album and I responded to those praising Layne, with my disagreement and criticism.

If you continue to debate the intention of my post, you must think you can read minds. Of course, we know you can't.

    This doesn't need more clarification.

  • @DarthMohammed Cool story bro

  • @SuiTobi Thanks! Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

Oh, btw... do you have any opinions of this song, this album, the new singer, or anything actually relevant to Alice In Chains? That would be awesome!

  • @DarthMohammed I do

  • @DarthMohammed It is completely true that Layne Stayley was a junkie, and while Jerry Cantrell did write a huge percentage of the lyrics and the music (guitar at least), saying Jerry Cantrell is AIC is a bit off the mark. If no one in the band ever wrote any part of any of the songs (i.e. highly unlikely), then Jerry is AIC. Even Trent Reznor (who is Nine Inch Nails) and Jimmy Gnecco (who is Ours) likely don't write every little bit without outside review. But I see your point.

'He manages to sound like Layne' is part of the problem. If were all honest Cantrell is AIC and he was blessed with pure luck to have Layne. Anyone who says otherwise is a Layne fan and not an AIC fan. AIC owner Cantrell picked DuVall but he's a copy cat killer that will never slice deep enough! I think Brand ID was more important

  • Comment removed

  • I wouldnt of have minded if Jerry Cantrell took over the vocals and made a new album.. He always had a sick voice as well.. As long as Jerry Cantrell is writing the riffs though its going to kick ass

  • The amount of ass this song kicks is too astronomical to calculate. It's unbelievable.

  • This song has Black Sabbath all over those riffs. I love it.

  • @XOmniverse Fuck yeah. I hope AIC makes more songs like this for the next album.

  • they r a bit like paradise lost . indestructible !

  • @c0ommonsense I honestly don't get why people call AiC "grunge" from a musical standpoint. They had a (tangential) connection to the Seattle scene, but musically, they were always closer to Sabbath-style old school doom metal.

  • @BroadwayRonMexico .. you are probably right . i dont know...

  • This is A.I.C. motherfuckers still standing yeah respect the dead

  • I know he could NEVER replace Layne, but as good as DuVall is, it just doesn't feel like AIC with him leading the vocals. Jerry should just take over. It at least feels like AIC when he's leading.

  • I'm not gay but I do not see the problem of people being gay, it's okay.

  • Will is an awesome replacement for Layne. He's brilliant in his own right, and pays awesome tribute to Layne voice wise. Long Live AIC!!!

  • Listening to a song like this doesn't make you feel alone.

  • had this playing while i was on asenction in black ops...SO FUCKING EPIC!!!

  • DuVall isn't a replacement. He's a singer. He doesn't sound like Layne in any way and frankly...he shouldn't try to. He's a damn good singer the way he is.

  • @GrungeFan11 i totally agree DuVall also gives the band more of a updated sound

  • For those of you who dislike William Duvall, look up Alice in Chains Kashmir on YouTube. William does a stellar job at singing some Led Zeppelin.

I've been listening to this album nearly everyday since it came out. I'm still not tired of it.

  • Good song!

  • this is one of the best songs on the album imo

  • This Song make's me want Beat the shit on my drums to the beat..!!

  • The chorus has the same kinda temp as rob zombie

  • ok Duvall sounds good in this song.

  • William Duvall Is my fave!

  • The chorus sounds like fucking Dragula

  • "all guys who ditch William DuVall should just shut it and be happy." Dude layy off the H long enough to write a sentence that makes sense Ditch William????? u mean Diss William??? dude seriously

  • @MrGeltabs get a life

  • I love this song . Duvall is so damn FINE!!!

    check me out!

  • @simplerexistance STFU fool.

  • William isn't Layne, but holy crap he does an amazing job!

  • william wrote this song at matter of fact...

  • Hes a pretty fucking impressive replacement, it take a world of singing talent to full Layne's shoes and do it well.

  • William sounds amazing on this album...easily in your top 3 AIC albums IF you know what real fucking music is

  • @JamesTBedell Yeah maybe this song is fucking baddas that i give you,,,but oother songs he sounds like a new age whinner sorry but thats the truth

  • @JamesTBedell Yeah, when I knew that Alice in Chains would return with a new singer, I thought "WTF? They'll try to replace Layne? That can't work". When I saw a picture of DuVall, I thought "Is he a Lenny Kravitz's or Phil Lynott's wannabe?". But I really liked this new album and changed my mind about him. I can only say I'm happy that the band is back, and I' want to see them live now. This new album is not as good as Facelift or Dirt, but is better than AIC, in my opinion.

  • @itchy814AO

Jerry isn't the only original member, and Layne started singing with them because he didn't want them to have a shitty singer, and just happened to love it, on that note they now have a new singer that isn't shitty so I would be happy if I was him.

  • @trance01 Yeah, I kind of feel like they should have released this as "Jerry Cantrell" or something.

  • 5 people are about to be the last of their kind.

  • That is not HQ. Listen to cymbals aliasing. Phasey and harsh sound. Terrible encoding

  • I love the lyric, "I Go To Sleep Behind the 8 Ball."

No idea what it freakin means but I love it haha

  • @JCon4sho24 It means he did crack and is now sleeping lol.

  • Comment removed

  • Haters gonna hate. They don't like it because they're afraid. Afraid that it wouldn't be good. Well they're wrong, its AMAZING!

  • @trance01 No way. Layne was a HUGE part of the band, but Jerry is the brains behind alice in chains. He wrote most of the material, he was lead guitar, and vocals. as long as Jerry's still in the band, they should keep the name. Jerry is alice in chains

  • @HaroldTheDog it's equal check the song credits..you can't dicredit the most influential oice of the 90's...if you don't believe me ask your favorite current hard rock/metal bands.

  • Kudos to William he sounds great!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is better sound quality....I want this on vinyl. TERA1320 CYBERPUNK EXTRODINAIRE !!!!!!!!

  • why cant all of you see that every song, new and old, by alice in chains is amazing. and to everyone who dislikes the new alice in chains, just remember, DuVall isn't Layne. nor is he trying to be. Layne was no less than a legend. and DuVall has done great too. long live alice in chains!

  • This is a hardcore jam! Man, this song fucking rocks! It's nice to hear some hard shit! Bout time we get some good music and none of that shit the kids are listening to now days! Thank Jerry and Will. This is a bas assed song!

  • all guys who ditch William DuVall should just shut it and be happy. Of Course he's not Layne, no one is Layne! Everyone was sad when he died but you know, you gotta move on. You people who criticize DuVall should be happy that AIC found him. He is great. He manages to sound like Layne and still have his own style. Of course he doesn't have Layne's power and energy, but it's pretty fuckin close. There is no better replacement. If you guys don't like him, then go listen to somethin else.

  • @SLASHdaROCKER There is alot of better replacements than him. Look up the video where Duvall sings Junkhead. The band is perfect but duvall just cant pull it off, im not saying he sucks at all but he cant pull it off.

  • @meshuggah6pantera well, if you think there was someone who could have puled it off, then tell me, cos I think DuVall is great, even if he can't do everything Layne can.

  • @SLASHdaROCKER There is Chris Cornell, I dont personally like him but he is better. and the guy from this. the singer from thread..theres lots. i know its not gonna change but since you asked

    watch?v=Whi8LwXZYZY

  • @meshuggah6pantera yeah, I don't like him either, but I admit he is a very good singer; but I don't think he would fit AIC. They are more dark, and DuVall has a dark vibe to him.

  • @meshuggah6pantera No one can replace Layne. NO ONE. I agree with u, Cornell has a better voice by far. but Layne had a very unique voice that not even chris could replace

  • Comment removed

  • @SLASHdaROCKER Thankyou for posting this!...we all loved Layne.. but REAL fans like us are really happy to see the legacy..carried on .. I think the new guy is very brave, has a great voioce and gives his "OWN"..twist to the band . I still feel an A*I*C* vibe..... and it feels good ... R.I.P. and respect to Layney...

  • @SLASHdaROCKER yea were just all lucky aic is still making good music and not selling out like everyone else

  • @SLASHdaROCKER We should be happy that AIC found him. "he manages to sound like Layne?"! ENOUGH! ... spark up another one mate while i slipddiymadingdangly ma way to SLASH da ROCKER

  • @majorisore what the fuck are you talking about?

  • Comment removed

  • @SLASHdaROCKER I agree but look at him as the beginning of a new era for AIC. He has a very good voice for the genre, and I think its better that he doesn't sound like layne. Layne's era of AIC will never be forgotten but its over. Black gives way to blue is a damn good album, and besides look at AC/DC for example. They started a new era with brian johnson after bon scott died. Back in black was the beginning of a new era for AC/DC. The memory of layne is not forgotten.

  • @SLASHdaROCKER Get out of my HEAD!!

  • my favorite song of the album

  • dude, this song is SICK. i love it when they start breakin down at about 1:30

  • Dammit, I wish people would quit fucking comparing DuVall to Staley.

If DuVall was in any other band, people would love him.

  • @75PercentHere EXACTLY.

  • @75PercentHere You are 150% right!!!

  • big time AIC fan and have been for years and I think the album is great..I can sit here and listen to the entire album without skipping a song b/c they all kick ass..

  • BGW2B is not AIC'S best album at all. Facelift, Dirt, SAP, Jar of flies, and the controversial self titled album( most underated) are all better.

The albums with Layne are all on holy ground, no doubt.

  • saw them live yesterday at MMR-B-Q. Duvall is sick.

  • Some of you need to get your hearing checked if you actually think that Jerry can sing better than Will. How about this. Why don't you guys go listen to degradation trip and Will's old band comes with the fall where they both sing by themselves and tell me who is better. Now I'm not bashing on Jerry, cause I do think he is a great singer but when comparing with Duvall there is no competition. Jerry is great for singing low harmonies and acoustic songs like your decision.

  • @ulose15 God forbid anyone is allowed to have their own preferences and opinions...

  • why did layne have to die RIP LAYNE

  • this fuckin song is awsome love the guitar work in this song jerry at his best here just listin to the riff

  • love this song

  • i love this band. i think layne would be proud of these guys.

  • STP = Stone Temple Pilots

yet another great band from the 90s

  • No he is not.

  • @steveguertin I find the chorus has an STP feel to it for sure.

  • @Wesson4 wtf is STP guys?

  • I think Jerry should have took over all vocal duties. I mean why not? he's good enough. Duvall is an un necssary part of the band.

BTW I could never picture Layne singing a song like this. To me it's not very AIC esque.

  • @Wesson4

Yeah Cantrell can immitate Layne way better than Duvall

  • @plsublockhtwn4life Nobody can imitate Layne. However Jerry's voice has still always been aparrt of the AIC sound. People freak out about how good Duvall is.

    "OMG Just like Layne!!"

When actually you hearing Cantrell's voice. and Cantrell's voice you can hear on every AIC record since 1991.

But nobody will ever be better than Layne

  • @Wesson4

    Yeah bro I know.

I am just saying Cantrell is second to Layne,. and Duvall is third. Hence. Cantrell should have taken over as lead singer.

  • i really wish, just for like a few songs off this album that people would stop comparing duvall to staley. duvall is an amazing vocalist. forget about staley for like 6 minutes and listen to this song. then finally people can say "Duvall is awesome" without adding "but Staley was better." im not bashing people who do like layne more, i can get that, but realize that his death changed the band. for good. id really like to see this guy get ALL the props he deserves without some bein given to layne

  • @banannaphone93 I bet if people heard this first and then heard the classic stuff that it would be totally different.I love the classic stuff but this album is amazing.Plus unlike Layne, Will actually WANTS to be in the band.I'm not bashing Layne but it's pretty obvious that he didn't care about the band in his last interview

  • @ColtinNotChicken wait, what do you mean about his 'last interview'? which one? cause there is some controversy on the so called 'last interview'

  • @ColtinNotChicken I think that you are so right about that. I mean ,not to bash Layne, but he was profoundly addicted to drugs and that is no life that anyone wants to live, so @ one point he could have just given up on this life and just left his misery behind. His life was a story and he may have wanted to end it, the band was a major detail in the sotry, but a detail nonetheless.

  • @banannaphone93 freaking nice.

  • I'm not a big fan of this album, or at least the way it's mixed... way too loud which seems to make the sound muddy. But I do like their new singer, he manages to sound sorta like Layne while also having his own unique feel. I think this is the start of an awesome revival.

  • cantrell is one the best rock guitarist ever love his style not to technical raw and powerful

  • There are rumours of another album in the works. That would be awesome. They seem to be staying true!!

  • layne will never be replaced, and what i like about this album is that they didnt try to cops laynes vocal style with william layne was one of a kind and may he rest in peace but he left us with so much amazing music to keep us alive, i know for me personally alot of his music helped me through tough situations in life, that being said....everyones gotta move on eventually aic cant dwell on it

  • this song kicks major ass.

  • @xXMetallicAXx34 the got less heavy
