look most of the people who leave negative comments. I personally do not care for tim reynolds at all. Yes technically he is astounding but for me guitar playing is all ABOUT SOUL AND I DONT FEEL IT FROM HIM. Listen to #41 with Warren Haynes and you will be blown away. You can feel him pouring himself into his guitar and to me thats what seperates the good from the great.
Tim reynolds definitely has soul and plenty of it? That really makes no sense saying he has no soul, did you even listen to the music? Or did you just hear it?
@TeronRoland TeronRoland Listen. I play guitar not only do i play i feel the guitar. It talks to me. I do not get the feeling from Reynolds. It doesn't mean he is good. I am simply stating a fact. Listen to Jamming OUt! Frank Delgado and the Witch Doctor and listen. I feel Dave's music. I dont feel Tim Reynolds. He does not produce soul for the simple fact he is hiding behind a castle wall of effects. Instead of spouting off like an idiot. Research.
@Jyobaloria Hey, why dont you look up some acoustic versions of Tim's talent and then watch yourself eat your own words. YOU do some research before opening your big mouth.
@TeronRoland Haynes Hendrix they emit soul. You can feel hendrix even though hes also behind a wall of effects. He plays with the music. NOt against the grain. This solo is terrible. LEarn to play and you might have an idea of true passion towards an instrument. Reynolds has no soul. He is a ginger. LEarn up before you challenge someone with an idea. Get an original idea John Nash wannabe

damn it Tim put down the electric, stop playing all that mindless mess and pick up and acoustic and do what you do best.
Sorry but this guy isn't good at soloing period. He doesn't know how to give a song feeling, it just sound like Eddie Van Halen playing over Dave songs.
If you going to solo, solo WITH the song you playing with, not against it or sperate from it. Or if you can't, drop the electric, pick up the acoustic.
To me, Tim playing an electric is a waste of his acoustic skills
u make a really good point thegeneral101He did bring alot 2 the rythm in Grugrux, but Dave matthews is best live. saw them on the sunday night show in 08 at alpine valley. AMAZING preformance, especially on daves part(his voice was perfect that night) and a mindblowing set list. BUT, for everything Tim would do that sounded good, he would do 3 things that(just IMO!) round parts of certain songs. And his loud volume ruined alot of what boyd was playing.I love Tim, but I like DMB more w/o him.
Shut the hell up az78909, that solo is wicked. You just don't get it. And who the hell has ever said that electrics are only for soloing and acoustics solely for rhythm. You are just stupid.
thats the dumbest fucking question/request ive ever received, there are SOO MANY better soloists alive. greg howe, paul gilbert, herbie hancock, wayne shorter. P.S Youre a fucking retard
I like your taste, chris potter fuck yes, but you the ones saying that including me, but I know he's not. I mean for all those hendrix, Vaughn, Anastasio, jimmy page, guys out there. Tim Reynolds in my opinion is poster worthy as much as anyone else. He has style. I can pick him outa anywhere, and he's just inpiring to so many senses.
I like him a lot a lot on the new record and his live version of Crush with jeff and him soloing is sick. Idk, this solo just doesn't do it for me, and the whole dropping to the knees thing was cheesy to me.
i see that, that's his style though. I've listened to him long enough and feel comfortable saying that he plays with dave so that he can pretty much get payed, and play in front of thousands. And with anything else he can do whatever the fuck he wants to do. He's a rebel, not tied down to contracts or record deals. He does it all cause he loves music. but definetly more polished nowadays.

Sorry, don't like it. And it's the antithesis of Dave's incredible playing--it's 80s guitar. Having said that, the guy can play. He complements Dave's acoustic work extremely well, especially when he resists playing a mile a minute and mucking up the song.
dave knows music, if this were true what your saying, why would he let him do it, and why would tim let himself do it, hes a world renouned guitar player dumbass
Tim Reynolds is an amazing guitar player. He improvises and thats what makes you good, being able to think of something on spot and slide it into a song. AND IT ACTUALLY SOUNDS IN PLACE. Is good guitar work to me.
phil k is amazing! good shit there. but yeah of course i dont think tim reynolds is the best, and honestly everyone is entitled to their opinion, but he has SERIOUSLY improved since 1998, i mean COME ON that was ten years ago, its not like he's been playing that "random shit" the entire time, hes improved.
what im saying is hes a VERY good player, thats all. but i dont think a lot of his playing is just "random shit". maybe here it is, but people dismiss his playing because old stuff like this
I don't think it's necessarily that he's the *most phenomenal electric player or the *most phenomenal acoustic player....but he's one of the few who can do both exceptionally well. Phil Keaggy is another very versatile guitarist in that sense. Just my thought...
and i saw dmb last night too at comcast... he was sweeping and tapping and shit, and some of his solos were epic and his phrasing was godly... search some bootlegs its worth the time.
i hope u guys realize this is from ten years ago... hes DRASTICALLY improved. if you listen to anything from this years tour youll be blown away, his playing ability and tone are a million times better
Tim's phrasing is light years beyond anything DiMeola and McLaughlin can do. Now as far as Tim sounding like others - of course some of the licks he plays are standard. But Tim's technique and feel is surely something he has made his own. That isn't to say his composition and improv skills aren't highly original either but I'm just admitting that of course you are going to hear familiar licks. Music is a conversation in which we steal from each other. Get used to it.
Zylaxis you need a reality check. It is quite obvious that McLaughlin and DiMeola are the only guitar players you know that can shred outside of metal. Wake up buddy just because Tim shreds doesn't mean he plays like McLaughlin and DiMeola. To be honest I doubt Tim ever really listened to those players. Tim's sense of melody and tone proves pretty well that he doesn't take much from those guys. McLaughlin and DiMeola are a joke when it comes to real musicians. They got lucky with their fame.

Tim Reynolds is OK. He's certainly not as godlike as you all make him out to be. There's a reason why his primary fanbase is stoner college students, and that's because you have to be 3-lids-smoked-from-a-4-foot-bong stoned to think he's anything other than mediocre. No disrespect intended, just sayin is all...
Too bad I don't smoke weed and drink, cause TR is one of my favorite guitarists. One of the most unique ever...and he is not well known and extremely underrated

See, here's the problem: he's not at all unique. Anbody who thinks he is has apparently never heard Al Di Meola or John MacLaughlin. Every single lick he plays, without exception, is stolen verbatim from one of those two players.
Tim's good at what he does, no doubt, and he adds a much needed melodic improv element to DMB that would be missing otherwise. But everything he's doing has been done before- he's just quoting Di Meola and MacLaughlin.
I'm not trying to get into a "musical battle" with you, but as a "somewhat experienced" guitarist, I think it's safe to say he is unique to a certain extent. I can't say much about Di Meola and MacLaughlin, as never have listening to them, but I can pick TR out of any song as far as I know.
