  • Tim hasn't missed a note in the past 32 years of playing!

  • shawn lane for life

  • Dave never impressed me as a guitar player at all but Tim Reynolds, well thats another story.

  • he just bent that e string to a d string...

  • no soul...watch warren haynes solo to this at the central park concert, this is just noise

  • @kvnboudreaux I think Warren Haynes would disagree with you.

  • Nah Jimmy still the greatest... and also BB is still alive!

  • this is the exact solo from the live in chicago album

  • @Waterboy109 because this IS the live in chicago album

  • jeff beck kinda groove

  • @zbhelm The LP he's using kind of looks like Beck's too, doesn't it?

  • Tim reynolds has conquered the female orgasm with his guitar

  • I'm a huge Tim Reynolds fan - this is off the hook, especially starting at 34". Does anyone know the date for this show? I'm guessing it goes back to sometime in the late 90's

  • @citrix99301

    12/19/98 I believe.

  • Tim Reynolds Is the best guitarist alive today!! Love him!!

  • @xfiles jeff beck is BY FAR THE BEST

  • that's funky as hell

  • Anyone who can solo guitar, with that much attitude.... can wear any pants he/she wants!

  • @Tommasini9 And even any fingerpainting he wants!

  • best guitarist alive

  • @Cswarriors21 Hahahaha not even close.

  • @Cswarriors21 He's good, but not even close. Derek Trucks is living, and he is the greatest player ever.

  • @theatlantisrise I think Derek is great as well.

  • Reynolds is a fucking monster. especially on acoustic with matthews. great singer + great guitarist= great show.

  • its great..

but i liked more the solo that warn haynes did in central park 2003

  • I love reading the comments from guitarts on here hating on Tim. Jealous much? Yup i do believe so!

  • lol, what is tim wearing??

  • @JimiHendrixFan10 lol an whats up with that hair?

  • some jacket he has on

  • Jimi just rolled over...again. (love those peavey SS amps!)

  • Thank God Tim doesn't dress like that anymore

  • meeeh i don't mind it

  • leave negative comments are guitar players. My B

  • Tim reynolds definitely has soul and plenty of it? That really makes no sense saying he has no soul, did you even listen to the music? Or did you just hear it?

  • @TeronRoland TeronRoland Listen. I play guitar not only do i play i feel the guitar. It talks to me. I do not get the feeling from Reynolds. It doesn't mean he is good. I am simply stating a fact. Listen to Jamming OUt! Frank Delgado and the Witch Doctor and listen. I feel Dave's music. I dont feel Tim Reynolds. He does not produce soul for the simple fact he is hiding behind a castle wall of effects. Instead of spouting off like an idiot. Research.

  • @Jyobaloria Hey, why dont you look up some acoustic versions of Tim's talent and then watch yourself eat your own words. YOU do some research before opening your big mouth.

  • @Jyobaloria and you play open your ears

  • @TeronRoland Haynes Hendrix they emit soul. You can feel hendrix even though hes also behind a wall of effects. He plays with the music. NOt against the grain. This solo is terrible. LEarn to play and you might have an idea of true passion towards an instrument. Reynolds has no soul. He is a ginger. LEarn up before you challenge someone with an idea. Get an original idea John Nash wannabe

  • @Jyobaloria are you sur eyou have a soul?

  • ...you should hear Tim's 12-string stuff

  • @Jyobaloria are you calling Tim a ginger?....

  • Sounds fine to me... ; 0 ) I think Dave agrees.

  • dont forget square! :P lolol

  • your an idiot and a faggot

  • lolol

  • obviously you haven't heard dave's new album.....

  • u make a really good point thegeneral101He did bring alot 2 the rythm in Grugrux, but Dave matthews is best live. saw them on the sunday night show in 08 at alpine valley. AMAZING preformance, especially on daves part(his voice was perfect that night) and a mindblowing set list. BUT, for everything Tim would do that sounded good, he would do 3 things that(just IMO!) round parts of certain songs. And his loud volume ruined alot of what boyd was playing.I love Tim, but I like DMB more w/o him.

  • Shut the hell up az78909, that solo is wicked. You just don't get it. And who the hell has ever said that electrics are only for soloing and acoustics solely for rhythm. You are just stupid.

  • are you 2 years old?

  • I completely agree with you. Those thumbs down were completely undeserved.

  • ... that guy is sick!

  • nice pants timmy.. what is that chain mail armor?

  • soulful...

  • man.. i've never seen him on an electric..

he has such a sick sound on acoustic.. but hes still good

  • you're so fucking bad at commenting jesus christ

  • good one, keep liking lame guitarists.

  • good one, keep being a fucking faggot.

  • succesful troll.

  • you're a little schoolboy bitch

  • LOL K

  • Seriously? Name a better soloist alive today? P.S. You're a douche bag.

  • thats the dumbest fucking question/request ive ever received, there are SOO MANY better soloists alive. greg howe, paul gilbert, herbie hancock, wayne shorter. P.S Youre a fucking retard

  • wtf, you think tim reynolds is the best soloist alive today. you need to get off his dick

  • i honestly feel sorry for you, if you think tim reynolds is the best soloist alive. get off his dick and go listen to chris potter, or pat metheny

  • Yeah right guy, those guys have nothing on TR.

  • whats with your obsession with dick? ulikeyDICK?

  • I like your taste, chris potter fuck yes, but you the ones saying that including me, but I know he's not. I mean for all those hendrix, Vaughn, Anastasio, jimmy page, guys out there. Tim Reynolds in my opinion is poster worthy as much as anyone else. He has style. I can pick him outa anywhere, and he's just inpiring to so many senses.

  • I like him a lot a lot on the new record and his live version of Crush with jeff and him soloing is sick. Idk, this solo just doesn't do it for me, and the whole dropping to the knees thing was cheesy to me.

  • i see that, that's his style though. I've listened to him long enough and feel comfortable saying that he plays with dave so that he can pretty much get payed, and play in front of thousands. And with anything else he can do whatever the fuck he wants to do. He's a rebel, not tied down to contracts or record deals. He does it all cause he loves music. but definetly more polished nowadays.

  • Fung

this is a great solo bud!

  • Comment removed

  • What he plays isn't bad it just doesn't fit the song at all, which is one of the most important parts of soloing

  • well that's the point, well not exactly. they are a fucking jam band. the solo isn't the identity of the song. you look at the solo as a picture in itself. Open your mind. and i think it does fit the song. acually perfectly and amazingly. honestly i have no idea what your talking about. you must have watched a different video then you posted.

  • timmy was so badass with his long hair

  • cool solo.

  • for people who dont know, this is from their Live in Chicago show. it was webcasted but was never released as a dvd.

  • Sadly... I wish they'd release it as DVD.... it would be incredible. This show was great.

  • wow he is awesome! I hear a lot of jeff beck influence there.

  • def. it kills me...... that so much talent goes un appreciated by so many

  • He looks mad goth hes normally daveish when he plays with them

  • He's wearing a sparkly purple shirt...

  • hahaha...only tim

  • Is this on a dvd to buy? where was this played?

  • prince i mean tim is awsome...lol

  • Awesome improv playing,seen

Dave in Va beach last round..wish Tim was there

  • are those....sequenced pants hah yes!

god i love tim reynolds, not many people can shred on an acoustic just as easily as on an electric

  • I don't want to get involved in this argument, but you can't call someone a dumbass if you don't know how to spell correctly.

  • true folk, your a dumb ass with absolutely no appreciation for good music

  • Dave Matthews kindof sucks too. They deserve eachother.

  • Wow, listen to this full song and then talk to me.

  • he's good, but i dont like him that much. He can play fast, but it doesn't have as much soul in it as in songs other guitarists play.

  • dave knows music, if this were true what your saying, why would he let him do it, and why would tim let himself do it, hes a world renouned guitar player dumbass

  • Well put, genius. Did you happen to graduate from middle school?

  • Tim Reynolds is an amazing guitar player. He improvises and thats what makes you good, being able to think of something on spot and slide it into a song. AND IT ACTUALLY SOUNDS IN PLACE. Is good guitar work to me.

  • i fuckin saw this live last night he is a fuckin god yo for real...i was jus amazed

  • Any guitar player who wears pants like that is okay in my book.

  • lol, dont forget the shirt and black nail polish

  • nice pants...

  • GIVE ME YOUR DOLPHIN!

  • This is a really good performance. A great one. He have feeling!

  • phil k is amazing! good shit there. but yeah of course i dont think tim reynolds is the best, and honestly everyone is entitled to their opinion, but he has SERIOUSLY improved since 1998, i mean COME ON that was ten years ago, its not like he's been playing that "random shit" the entire time, hes improved.

what im saying is hes a VERY good player, thats all. but i dont think a lot of his playing is just "random shit". maybe here it is, but people dismiss his playing because old stuff like this

  • I don't think it's necessarily that he's the *most phenomenal electric player or the *most phenomenal acoustic player....but he's one of the few who can do both exceptionally well. Phil Keaggy is another very versatile guitarist in that sense. Just my thought...

  • hell yeah he was. great show last night

  • Tim was freaking amazing at the verizon ampatheater in charlotte.

  • and i saw dmb last night too at comcast... he was sweeping and tapping and shit, and some of his solos were epic and his phrasing was godly... search some bootlegs its worth the time.

  • i hope u guys realize this is from ten years ago... hes DRASTICALLY improved. if you listen to anything from this years tour youll be blown away, his playing ability and tone are a million times better

  • He is by no means overrated, ever. But his strength is definitely on the acoustic.

  • check out some videos of him playing acoustic solo, then say hes shitty

  • lol no, just because you can't handle the truth.

  • i can handle the truth put up a vid of yo udoing better if you think u kno so much

    !

  • He's a good player with some neat licks, but his tone and vibrato on electric are pretty bad,IMO.

  • Tim's phrasing is light years beyond anything DiMeola and McLaughlin can do. Now as far as Tim sounding like others - of course some of the licks he plays are standard. But Tim's technique and feel is surely something he has made his own. That isn't to say his composition and improv skills aren't highly original either but I'm just admitting that of course you are going to hear familiar licks. Music is a conversation in which we steal from each other. Get used to it.

  • Zylaxis you need a reality check. It is quite obvious that McLaughlin and DiMeola are the only guitar players you know that can shred outside of metal. Wake up buddy just because Tim shreds doesn't mean he plays like McLaughlin and DiMeola. To be honest I doubt Tim ever really listened to those players. Tim's sense of melody and tone proves pretty well that he doesn't take much from those guys. McLaughlin and DiMeola are a joke when it comes to real musicians. They got lucky with their fame.

  • Too bad I don't smoke weed and drink, cause TR is one of my favorite guitarists. One of the most unique ever...and he is not well known and extremely underrated

  • I'm not trying to get into a "musical battle" with you, but as a "somewhat experienced" guitarist, I think it's safe to say he is unique to a certain extent. I can't say much about Di Meola and MacLaughlin, as never have listening to them, but I can pick TR out of any song as far as I know.

At least admit he is unique on the acoustic lol

  • OK, he has some unique moments on the acoustic. I'll grant that. But on electric, he's quoting MacLaughlin and Di Meola. Look em up on Youtube and listen to their soloing styles if you don't believe me.

  • hes redonkulous.. i agree the absolute most underrated guitarist ever

  • absolutely the most underrated of all time... in the main stream anyways... but those of us that appreciate skill... hes at the top of the list day in and day out. - tim reynolds... you are the GOD OF GUITAR

  • thank you, a man with a brain. totally agree. most underated of all time. If you've seen his solo stuff and you understand jazz, all he plays is the bad notes. that's why he is so incredibly underated.

  • Easily the most underrated guitarist of all time

  • second comment. INCREDIBLE!... doesn't even say it.

  • first comment
