  • 3:05 Something of Death Magnetic album.

  • this song is like a heavier deeper more melodic version of frogs \m/

  • Realmente Duvall é um cara pro estilo da banda... Layne faz falta.. mas pensamos no hj a banda resurgiu e para um fã como eu ...isso é divino!!!

  • jerry's voice is more prominent on the album. most likely to ease older listeners in accepting duvall when you can hear him. allowing duvall to sing more live is part of the acceptance process among diehard fans. Next album you'll definitely hear more of duvall.

  • Its hard to believe this is live

  • Intent Obsolescence! Built Into the System!

  • I can imagine Layne singing this song. William does an awesome job.

  • As much as I like the old AIC stuff, this is fucking awesome, i'm really glad alice in chains is back.

  • One of Will's best live performances I've ever seen.

  • This song is amazing... what a rythm breaks... blows ur mind

  • Yea.. It's like trying to replace the Korn lead singer. Or Aerosmith. Or Rush. Just can't do it. Sounds like a good house band without Layne. That's about it though.

  • I was so glad when they played this when I saw them at Foxwoods 3/6/10.

    This song is awesome!

  • great song and great performance... Alice, the best!

  • i love the song but why does jerry have to be a statue while playing, show some emotion man

  • @trifectfo3 I caught AIC here at Bayfest in 2007 and Jerry didn't stand around like a statue then (he doesn't seem to be here either), but rather he lost his fucking mind on stage. He headbangs alot while he plays--especially heavy groove-crunch parts....that's kinda his thing....

  • @Jeff2870 sorry man but i rewatched the video and I stand by my comment. Regarding this video, I think he could have showed a bit more emotion

  • @trifectfo3 seen old AIC twice & new the same Jerry does move a lot maybe he is hurt or tired whatever sometimes it will happen long live AIC

  • What do people want Layne is dead and was a drug addict!!! That's not changing there back suck it up or move on!!!! He sounds good with the band listen to the first song there's no going back that's it.

  • @solo624 I can see that. They could have chosen a different name, instead of going with AIC, but eh.

  • Wooooooooooooooooooooo Aspettatemi sono già a Roma il 10 Giugno.

  • trying to accept this new AIC, but I am having such a hard time. I feel like we are disrespecting Layne by trying to replace him. I wish, at least, they would only sing new material as I can never enjoy anyone but Layne's voice in previous AIC songs. R.I.P. Layne Staley

  • @cmonabear it's respecting Layne by keeping his songs alive...

  • @Phunxk yea, AIC forever!

  • Wish I could find better audio on this. But being live its good.

  • haha wow, it must be hard to sing this song at that slow tempo! haha all the notes are like double length!! :P fair play to em!

  • Great track.

The more I listen, it might be my favorite of the new material.

  • Intend obsolescence, Built into the system! Intend obsolescence, Built into the system!! Intend obsolescence, Built into the system!!! Intend obsolescence, Built into the system!!!! Intend obsolescence, Built into the system!!!!! Intend obsolescence, Built into the system!!!!!!

  • Sean doing drumstick toss ups for timing awesome.

  • going to st.louis tomorow to see these guys i cant fucking wait. im drinking some big ass concert budweisers and smoking some good 09 yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i'm starting to like their new album more, especially this song. Watch an interview with the former band mates about moving on after layne- you'll see that they don't take it lightly. this is definitely better than no alice at all, but i have mixed feelings about duvall singing layne's parts in old songs- just doesn't seem right...

on another note, layne was probably great at singing until his dying day. just a pity he wasn't around longer.

  • thats "immaculate"..... fk-ing no spell check....

btw, saw em in vegas in december, seeing them again in LA & Denver next 2 weeks...............

the whole gd music industry sucks...

so happy there's a real band to see !!

    AIC !!

  • u guys bitching crack me up...

smoke some more crack in ur basement & keep waiting for layne to come back.........

    new aic is fk-ing awesome....

    barring layne's imaculent & sudden return, i couldn't be happier !

    all due respect....

  • @SoCalDazed

Willie is awesome...Layne quit -- he didn't even speak to jerry or any of the guys during the last years of his life...all he did was sit in his house and pay people to go get drugs for him...the song "your decision" -- they left him alone and he chose to die...it was his decision -- it sucks but that's what he wanted. Fuck all the people hating on AIC -- I hope they come out with a new album, cause Black gives way to blue was fucking amazing.

  • @surgeyX

Read an interview with Mike Inez (on espn page 2 of all places, chatting about baseball), Mike is from OC. lives in Big Bear, loves the Angels............

Anyway, he says he speaks to Jerry almost every day, and they are working on some new stuff, prob take their time, maybe 2012 release ..............

  • calm the fuck down esse.

  • Jerry's been has been the dominate singer ever since Layne started getting real sick.

  • Layne getting sicker wasn't the reason why Jerry started singing more though. Jerry said in an interview that Layne pushed Jerry to sing more.

  • Thats true, and Jerry was trying to push layne to play the guitar more.

  • That is the truth. In fact on the MTV unplugged Jerry did lead vox on many of the songs and Layne chimed in occasionally. I guess the drugs had really weakened him so much physically that he could not stick it out for the whole performance.

  • I Really wish they would have let William sing more on the CD...it just seems like Jerry's vocals are so much louder than his, especially in this song on the CD...such an amazing singer live!

  • what are the chords william plays behind the verses?

  • Alice in Layne's

  • u shud be shot for saying he destroys layne

  • shut the fuck and quit watching then. your obviously no fan of alice in chains.

  • @nirvanaaddict8989 ok srry i didnt mean he destroys him im a huge fan of layne but i like the new lead singer i like his tone better layne is still amazing. srry its my oppinion didnt mean to piss any faggets off

  • think before you speak "fagget" :P

  • @nirvanaaddict8989 well u see by fagget i meant u but watever its past :P \m/

  • well yeah i knew that was aimed at me, i put quotations on cause i was using your words sir

  • drop D... uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • clapping their hands like they are seeing britney spears.. hahah

  • my favorite song off this album is a looking in view.

  • damn! how low is he tuned? awesome riff/song

  • I love Cantrell's tone. I want it.

  • me to that guys tone is fucking orgasmic it just oozes rock and roll

  • will duvall has a BRILLIANT voice. not the same as laynes but still great. this is my second favourait song of the album after the title track

  • yah hes pretty good.. he will evolve over time.. just let them get seasoned.. just wait for the new EP they have coming out.. Alice is famous for their badass EP's.. i can't wait, supposed to drop in the next 8 months

  • cool did not know about the ep...hopefully another jar of flies. any specific idea when?

  • dude there is nothing in the works for an EP! They are just touring right now, and I will be sure to ask Cantrell if they r going to go in that direction when I meet him in march! But the only thing they have going on in the next 8 months is hard core touring... the way I like

  • hey bro... they are working on a EP right now.. im sorry you havent heard about it? i dont know what to tell you.. any real aic fan would have at least heard about it... so yah, go ahead and ask cantrell what he has in store for you... lol... but anyway, yah what high school did jerry go to?

  • First, why do I care what high school Jerry went to? It's not important to me @ all! What's important is his ability to reach me in many ways through his songwriting. Secondly, If want to play jeopardy I'll call Alex Trebek. Finally, what sources told you Alice is doing a EP? b/c i'm pretty sure Baldy didn't post anything!

  • Can't wait for the US Tour...when they opened for Velvet Revolver a few years ago it was just a warm up...now that they have new material I'm certain the new shows will rock...can't wait for Spring 2010!!!

  • im in vancouver, i hear in april they will be out here! cant wait for the new tour, i may even see them in seattle, im sure that would be the best show

  • ya i saw them at the chicago concert with velvet revolver they did really good.

  • this album is great. at some point not only can you feel laynes presence you can also hear his voice. i am really proud and happy that alice in chains is back indeed. and i know, somewhere. layne is smilling right know.

  • yeha man so true, layne had a big impact on the lyrics i belive, your decision i feel is about him

  • nope

jerry wrote the vast majority of lyrics

  • idk y but i prefer this song live than on the album. the album version is amazying but idk i jst love the heaviness of it live

  • Best song from Black Gives Way To Blue

  • Really shows off how awesome of a voice Will has!

  • epic song

  • - "And you never paid attention to all the lines I crossed"

    - "Forgive this imperfection it shows and know"

  • I'll see Alice in Portugal...And I swear I'm gonna cry like a borning baby.

  • Great perfomance. Makes me want to go to one of their concerts.

  • Yeah I gotta agree with the fact this version is better than the album version. Cantrell is a great vocalist... dont get me wrong. But DuVall has a powerful clear voice that really resonates in this song. Kind of reminds me of Maynard of Tool fame in his vocal capabilities.

  • Great comeback for an awesome band! Gotta love it....

  • One of the best albums in years !!

Acid Bubble is one blazing-heavy-poetic assault on the senses.

Superbly done in this live one !

  • Great Song!

    Acid Bubble is a masterpiece!

  • I wish Jerry wouldn't harmonize with Will as much on the album version of this song. It sounds so much better when Will sings it alone.

  • My personal favorite from the album. I also love the title track and umm...pretty much every song.Great album top to bottom..

  • one of the best on the album.

  • Good song! I saw them recently for the 1st time expecting them to suck and was completely amazed how great they sounded. Duvall does a great job with his soulful sound.

  • does anyone else think this live version sounds better than the album version?

  • @DowNINit09

Hell yea it does! I wish they would have recorded it like they played it here. DuVall singing lead...

  • great vedieo fuking europeaners clap u eddiots clap

  • Dude this fucking KILLS. Wish I had been there for this one. DuVall does a damn good job.. gotta admit it. Layne Staley forever.... but they probably couldn't have done any better to fill that void

  • Layne would be pissed at you nerds for hating on his band.....it's self reflection, losers...XP

  • is that jackson 5 ? lol!!!

  • anyone who hates on will d is a fuckin idiot we all know layne is better but will is good. and why are those one douchebags doin that gay ass jump clap at a fuckin rock concert haha

  • fucking BADASS

  • I was also hesitant about this album as I am a huge Layne Staley fan....but wow!! they did an awsome job as this song is vintage AIC. If Layne were alive he would of been proud, I can still feel him in this song especially. He would of loved to sing this. RIP LAYNE!!!!

  • with out layne is not the same

  • alice in chains will never be the same as they used to be but then again kip has tough shoes too fill its still a great song

  • yet, now is a new alice in chains

    R.I.P. LAYNE

  • actually i just saw them last night. if you would just close your eyes you wouldnt have been able to tell that Layne wasnt alive anymore. but still layne had most emotion i have ever heard from any singer. and thats the only diff from him and Duvall. but still he is the best guy that they could have gotten to sing.

  • I really thought this album would be like the new Guns N Roses and just kinda suck. Wow, was I wrong. DuVall did an amazing job and I'm a little miffed they drowned him out as much as they did. It's almost Jerry's third solo album. Here's hoping the next one they really let DuVall shine...

  • Comment removed

  • I have to say I was cautiously optimistic about this new album but after listenting to it many times I can't freaking get enough - love Black Gives Way to Blue and Acid Bubble - my two favorites.

  • the whole album rosks

when the sun rose again, lesson learned, and private hell in addition to the two you named,

  • I actually think hes got a damn fine voice - my only bitch on the CD is he doesnt get to really step out in front of the band so that you can really hear him much - this song is the main exception but i would have liked to hear more of him -

  • This song kicks ass. The harmonies r amazing and it helps the fact the Kip is a great front man.

  • i was expecting to not like this album but this song won me over. plus fall weather always puts me in the mood for something heavy.

  • agreed 100%

  • Real music is back! The new album was the best one I've bought in a very long time. Even tried to stop listening to it, but nothing on the radio compares. Duval is a great front man for them. If they come to Tampa, I am there!

  • I love the vocals in this song.. it reminds me of something kinda like sickman.. the lead guitar in this song is amazing. I love the chorus. Best song right behind private hell.

  • Damn... can't wait to see them in Paris. Only 2 months left. Aaaaarg!!! Wanna hear "Last of my Kind too! Your Decision and the wonderful tribute to Layne as well.

Alice in Chains : one of the best band ever.

Black Gives Way to Blue is a fuckin' great album.

  • Welcome back Alice!! Black Gives Way to Blue is excellent! More successful comeback than Death Magnetic and Chinese Democracy (both of which are great)

Now lets see a full Soundgarden reunion and a Pearl Jam album that has songs longer than 4 minutes and Dave Abbruzzese...

  • ..PIRT DICA..

  • The new album kicks some serious ass. Long live Alice in fucking Chains!

  • i bought the album... ITS KICKS MAJOR ASS!!! anyone who is a TRUE fan of Alice in Chains can appreciate this record for what it is... a much needed fix for an AIC addict... AIC 4 LIFE!!! RIP LAYNE

  • can't wait to hear last of my kind live!

  • bella canzone...un bel cd

  • layne can never be replaced...but duvall is the best possible replacement...this ranks among the best replacements of lead vocalists IMO of all time (e.g. AC/DC)...props to the guys...glad i discovered these guys 3 years ago in high school. I hope this album brings AIC's music to the younger kids out there so the AIC generation can expand.

  • duvall is sweet, but i would have loved to see maynard front them too.

  • One of the most badass songs on the new disc

  • One word: Heavy

  • glad they are back. the singer is pretty good, but no stayley for sure. I will buy the album! brings back memories of high school. chicks, and smoking pot. good stuff!

  • i was there.second time i see a band perform a flawless show.the sound,everything was perfect.goose bumps all the way through.would have made a perfect live dvd,for sure

  • FUCK WALMART! LOL

  • jerrys making it look so easy playing like that

  • Cool stuff.....I agree Layne would be proud! The new singer sounds pretty good to me

Good shit guys Im glad your back!!

  • Good song.

  • From grunge to trip rock...This may be the best song and best solo off the new album....cryyyyyyyy's in the corner...vintage aic

  • ‹3

  • the L.D. is fucking awsome!

  • Wow that was really good live!

  • Alice is fucking back.

  • Awesome. Thanks for the post.

  • So glad to see these guys, even with out Layne. So sad to say but Will is awesome. Im ready for the 29th!!!

  • its out 2morrow! call walmart see if you can get it tonight!

  • Layne would like this shit...for sure...He would be proud. Im so glad theres somthin new commin out.

(not sayin by any means the other albums were bad)

  • omg the 90s are back... good i love this shit.. gives me ghoosebumps!!

  • this is awesome! i can't wait for the new album!

  • it's not a competition between Layne and DuVall... DuVall is great.... Layne is the greatest....Layne is dead...may he rest in peace....long live AIC....... to all the haters and drama fags, quit bitching and just listen .... the music is still great

  • Jerry met William before Layne even died.

  • ya duvall was in the punk band bl'ast

  • Man, this sounds so much better than the album version. Jerry's harmonizing (more like lead vocals based on how the mix sounds...) in the verses actually brings it down a notch. Too much of a good thing... Still one of the best new songs though.

  • William Duvall is the man!

  • for now, but layne will always be the man!

  • Well, that's a given. I've always thought that, but you got to give credit where credit is due. He is the PERFECT person to take up lead singer after Layne. Nobody will replace Layne, but we have someone who is VERY talented and not some half-ass schmo filling in for him. Layne is looking down and smiling i would presume....

  • I'm so fucking jealous of Cantrell's guitar tone

  • dude, you and me both!!

but- i'll betcha he was the same way over evh and RR...and he turned out "ok"...:-D

just get a marshall or a bogner and dial that motha in!! oh yeah, a sweet-ass guitar or 2 helps. you'll sound like amillion bucks.

  • Yeah I was thinking about getting a Bogner (when money permits lol) and maybe even a Diezel (can't deny Adam Jones' guitar tone either), and I definitely want a H&K Duo, and maybe a couple of 1960 cabs to go with all those tone quality heads lol. 20k from now I might have what I want lol.

I'm an Ibanez fan (inexpensive yet good quality) just I prefer better pickups (I have SDs in mine right now same as Adam Jones') and I'm also a PRS fan who isn't though right? :-D

  • This would be the best new song I've heard so far, except for the fast part. Black Sabbath had that problem too back in the day. Don't get me wrong, both bands are two of my favorites, I just mean the songs with really badass, brooding slow parts that suddenly go into these fast riffs that seem only halfway thought through.

  • I feel the same way, but I still take the song as it is. It'll prolly grow on us, as we listen to the song more it'll be understood better. For me, listening to songs I like get me into the other songs I may not like at first. Or, parts of a song I thought messed it up or sound out of place. I hope I made some sense.

  • It'll probably sound better on the album, yeah.

  • this is kind of like a cross between a dirt song and frogs

  • I just saw these guys lastnight at X-Fest, One hell of a show. I've always been a fan since the early days and I have great expectations for the new album. Layne can't be replaced, but Duvall is an awesome vocalist for the band and I think they have plenty of gas in the tank!! I saw them lastnight and that shit made me cry!

  • so far ive heard this, a looking in view, black gives way to blue, and check my brain and im really impressed. william duvall is an excellent singer, he reminds me so much of layne. and they manage to stay true to their roots, this album reminds me so much of the old aic. of course layne can never be replaced, but duvall is an excellent person to carry on laynes spirit.. no doubt in my mind is this abum gonna go far, the songs are original and diverse enough that it has plenty of potential :)

  • UW1992 you should listen to Acid Bubble (it's got a couple live videos on Youtube)--it is pretty impressive during the verses when DuVall is killin' it.

  • yeah ive been checkin it out as well as other new songs. i have high expectations. i saw them on tour in portland when they were touring with velvet revolver and i was/am really impressed with duvall. anyone whos talking shit about him better realize that this band is comin back and they are gonna hit it hard

  • Me too. The hardcore Laynefans will never, ever be able to accept this band. No matter how good it sounds, they will say they don't like it, but they are just fishing for other close-minded ass-jockeys they can make buddies with. These people have posted the exact same garbage rants about "disrespect", the "name change", how DuVall sucks, and how Layne is God for THREE STRAIGHT YEARS! I just want to know WTF they are doing on this thread in the first place, if it sucks so bad?

  • Right on bro, they pull the same shit with Bon Scott/Brian Johnson. Last time I checked, dead dudes don't play live concerts much less release new albums! Rock is dead they say...LONG LIVE ROCK!!!

  • Dude--I didn't even realize this was an "Acid Bubble" video when I wrote that you should check this tune out! DUH!! Man, I'm fuckin' retarded! I just noticed and said damn, what was I smokin' last night?!?

  • haha dont worry about it lol

that was funny though aha acid bubble is a good song

  • Lets not lose our heads here. Lets calm ourselves down before we say somthing we're gonna regret.

  • DuVall is a great singer, I just don't like his voice. I just think they could have searched more ... And is it just me or does this song sound a lot like Bleed The Freak? Amazing song never the less.

  • It's just you, I don't hear it at all like Bleed the Freak.

  • What's with all the spite against the new singer? Man, I'm just pleased to have new stuff from these talented artists. I loved Layne, but he's sadly not with us, but I'm fired up that Jerry is kicking out the awesome jams again, he's just too damn good to not be making music! This album will tear it up!

  • this is the best of the new AIC songs I've heard so far. Every one I hear sounds better than the last. While the new guy doesn't sound like Layne, the vibe is still totally AIC and they still totally fucking kick ass.

  • saw them in concert...fucking AMAZING. rip layne<3

  • doghunter that's pretty low being racist to Alice in Chains' new lead singer. If you don't like Alice in Chains why are you listening to thier videos? Nobody will ever be as good as Layne but move on. R.I.P. Layne. Your band lives on

  • I like it.. looking forward to hearing the new album!

  • you guys are fags layne was great but hes dead get over it duvall sounds pretty sick im hoping to see more aic in teh future

  • Yeah, this song and the new album is a dark and bluesy look into the meaning of all of our future deaths.

  • Its fucking awsomw that they are back!!!!

  • Thank god there's better videos, the last one sounded like my mom's car stereos

  • thanks for the upload.. can't wait to see them live!
