How many decades away is the technology to build these so-called safe fourth generation reactors? We could be utilising renewable energy so much more (and more pople are doing it themselves anyway) but the lousy right-wingers are hell bent on "clean" nuclear energy. Clean my ass. They truly are insane. And where would we put these safe and clean reactors righties? In safe Liberal/National electorates? You want it in your backyard than go for it.

The opposition to nuclear energy is ideological and emotional. Fourth-generation nuclear reactors have the potential to literally save the world, and we should be building them now. Without them we are doomed to global warming and/or energy starvation, both of which are threats to human civilisation.

David Noonan, like the other green groups, is seriously misinformed about fourth generation nuclear. His statement about fourth generation nuclear producing plutonium is misleading. Every nuclear reactor produces plutonium. He make it sound like only breeders produce plutonium. But the fourth generation nuclear actually CONSUMES the plutonium and turns it into fission products. Today's nuclear reactors don't do that. They don't consume the plutonium at all. Fourth generation nuclear is safer.
