The opening acoustic guitar for this song was inspired by Kirk Hammet's holiday vacation to Sicily in 1988. During this vacation he spent 1 month with Sergio Garcia at a house overlooking the bay of Santa Del Rigga. Kirk Hammet is said to have had 24 hour drinking sessions with Sergio and his extended family, feasting on wines, cheeses and olives. During this time, Kirk practiced his acoustic guitar daily and came up with the Sicilian inspired introduction to this song. (Kerang Metal Magazine)

They were riffs that were not used, elsewhere, and so, were added as further tribute to their friend. It was only played once, live, but has been played several times as part of a medley. The words were written by a German poet, Paul Gerhardt. The title is a phrase that Cliff was fond of. Peace.
