good old David Jason what ever he is in is such a huge hit, they say in the books of this programme he died, but they could not kill a David Jason character
its basically what stood for all things British. not this chav based "working class" benefits nonsense. THIS is what Britain was truly like for many and sadly what can only be viewed now as a distant memory.
Such a shame we can never return to the time when people were proud to work for a living and were proud to be English.
has this theme tune been used on anything else, i remember asking my mom this when this came out in 1991 and never found out, sounds a bit like george and mildred lol
@HRHStewartIIRegina I'm going up tomorrow. Its my others half's grandparents farm so i'm going to get some footage of how it looks nowadays. Will post when I've got it :)

We can't tho cos it isn't 50's Kent when things were so much more 'real' than they are now. Pop reminds me a bit of my dad -always ducking and diving for a deal etc...ah the good old days...
l'm doing my best to recreate the life tho. According to the book it is a half hours drive from Dover port - which is where l live... AND since l've been here l am certainly getting more like Ma Larkin every day lol
@slipmatjt22 what a perfic life ! It used to be like that with some families. Well i suppose it might be the same with some farmers and their families today !
my family are just like the larkins lol apart from the farm lol we live in a small village and my mum would cook for the whole villiage if we let her lol and as for the comment from bus140808 i agree my other half looks like Charley to lol shame i dont look like Catherine Zeta Jones though lol xx
l think l must be THE biggest Larkin Chronicles fan alive !! l've read the book so many times and have the DVD set too of course....but if there is ANYONE out there who can tell me the location used for their trip to Brittany in 'A breath of French Air' l'd be really grateful if you'd let me know. ln the book and the tv series the hotel was called The Beau Rivage - given up on that route tho. l'd love to know the hotel with that fabulous view. Can anyone help please ?
The place in Brittany where the hotel 'Beau Rivage' is located is in St Lunaire. At the end of the cliffs is the giant cross and when the tide is out, go onto the beach walk out as far as you can and you will see the house on top of the cliff on the left. Its not a hotel though just someones house. Go to Brittany most years still can't find the church though!!
The beach you walk on is the beach they used on the program.
Thank you SO much for this reply oyster. So - l can't book a holiday in the Beau Rivage and sit on that terrace looking down as pop did ?? :( l was convinced it was St Malo because of the little train mentioned in the series and the book. lt all looked so beautiful there. The book also mentions St Peters port...do you know of that ??
You are SO lucky to go there every year - can you recommend a hotel there ?
We stay in an apartment in St Jacut de la mer which is a charming place we have friends who live there it's close to St Briac, St Lunaire and Dinard. We did stay in a hotel in Dinard once but it was pretty expensive. We are over there on Wednesday for two weeks, when I get back I'll send you details and photos if I can....not sure how I do that though, new to this game!! Don't think St Peters port exists and not sure about the train either, but the place is truly stunning.
The bloke with the blond hair reminds me of my boyf! I am quite attracted to geeks (god I hope he don't read this!) I think its because I always bunked off school and I find geekyness endearing i dunno.
i go all funny and warm inside when i see this and hear that music. such a great programme. brings back those childhood memories... david jason is the don
