According to the Superintendencia de Pensiones the minimum pension benefit as of December of 2008 was 115 000 pesos (roughly 210 dollars), and that required a minimum of 20 years of contributions, if you contributed less (as most farm and seasonal workers do in Chile) you only get 55 000 pesos (roughly 100 dollars).
And again these benefits are guaranteed and subsidized by the STATE..so much for the "success" of the "private" system.
This is what the new president of Chile had to say about the country's pension system
"Chile's social security system requires deep reforms in all sectors, because half of Chileans have no pension coverage, and of those who do, 40 percent are going to find it hard to reach the minimum level".(about 100 dollars a month!)
This new president happens to be the brother of the person peddling this hoax as a miracle that will solve the world's problems.
@apango2000 Hahahaha... Chile is not a democracy? hahahahaha... why? because we have a bipartisan system for the Congress? then, the US is not a democracy neither? come on. I know you are a HUGO CHAVEZ fan. You prefer the Cuban "democracy" and the Chavez democracy... with all the censorship against the press and opposition media. That's your kind of "democracy". Chile's Constitution was reform approved by a democratic Congress and Pinochet's signature was replaced with Ricardo Lagos'
the constitution is a very good one, Pinochet did the constitution not for him, he builded it for the future (1990 onwards) democratic goverments. the people voted if they liked or not the constitution 2 times (1980 and 1989) and both times the people aprooved it. Is a totaly democratic constitution, validated by the people.
If you whish to admire and pay tribute to brutal dictators and his associates that is definitely your right, but dont expect me to waste my time educating you about the preference and trust most people have for democracy.
we are talking about system, doesn't matter if it was invented by Pinochet, Stalin, Castro, Bush, kissinger, Kennedy, Tatcher, Blair, Lula, the pope... etc. Good things are good things, doesn't matter who do it, i recognice a very few good thongs about Fidel Castro, so?
@apango2000 you are a contradictory fellow..... you claim against Pinochet.... but you support Hugo Chavez........ a military commander that attempted a military coup against the democratic government of Venezuela............... truth is that you are not against military brutality, cause you are in favor of it.... if it supports your political point of view.
sory to say to you, but Allende was elected president with only 33% of popular votes, he tried to pull Chile to a socialist dictatoship, Pinochet resolved that. In Pinochet worst moment he left the goverment with 44% of the votes, losing a referendum.
don't be silly, the social security sistem invented by Jose Piñera in Pinochet regime (could be in any other regime) is a very good siste, so good that our social democrat presidents continued, many countries copied this system, chilean AFPs sistem is a very good one. Jose Piñera is also chilean elected president brother (Sebastian Piñera)
Another proof of your pitiful ignorance

Apango2000 is a full time employee of the propaganda Ministry of Dictator Hugo Chavez charged with bashing Chile.
His job is to spread lies, big and small.
He is also a coward since he makes ad hominem attacks under a fake and idiotic name.

Este compadre es un oportunista y un charlatán cuyo unico apoyo en Chile lo encuentra entre los cada vez menos nostálgicos del pasado dictatorial.

that's funny, José piñera is just a poppet criticizing it's master's economic system,
Chile still is a laboratory of USA foreign policy.
Just be careful gringos, Piñera wouldn't doubt to recommend dictatorship in USA.
He is a terrorist poppet as Pinochet was.

Seems you are either delusional or do not understand what you read.
¿Chavez?...¿Cuba?...nothing to do with the subject and nothing to do with me.
If you can not keep the focus on the issue at hand I have no interest in you and please do not reply. Bye.

No one but Fox News would give audience to a former minister of a genocidal dictatorship.
¿Who is next?........¿A former minister of health of Nazi Germany giving us advice on how to fix the US health system?
