  • love it

  • class pure class

  • My old man dragged me along to the old rallies. I still keep the faith.

  • Club sound of the 70,s in Bournemouth when I was a lad.

  • B-side is what sold this record should check it out

  • Reminds me so much of yorkshire. Even though I'm a born and bread lancashire man :)

  • God I love this! never knew who, or what, it was

  • Canadian blue eyed soul at its most infectious. The Northern scene drove this classic into the UK charts in 1974. I was 14 years old and couldn't get enough of it, played the vinyl to death. This track has lost nothing of its appeal nearly four decades on. Music does not get much better than this.

  • @TDSouledOut1 I must agree, you get into the music and seek all the rare and unissued stuff where some is good and some isn't and you need to appreciate this stuff, lower your pretenciousness and realise how great thtese chart toppers were.

  • Fintry Clubie , great times . Dundee forever

  • top tune!!

  • thumbs up if u thought this would have goast in it

  • Everybody dance now!!!

  • cant thank my parents enough for bringing me up with this music :) abloody shame that people my age missed out on this

  • this song has a strong memory with me as i remember my dad playing this song all the time

  • paulredhead01 yes he was but you'd never know, not that it matters anyway. And anyone who's loved and lost will feel an affinity with this song

  • great memories, fantastic dancing, just a wonderful time to be alive, in my late fifties now, but this record has had me up dancing at the side of the laptop ha

  • omg the memories are flooding back , this was mine & my ex hubby;s favorite

  • omg the memories are flooding back , this was mine & my ex hubby;s favorite

  • Would love to be able to go back to when I first heard this...

  • Oh God, the memories.

  • great song great days :)

  • Superb ! I believe, ( correct me if I am wrong), that R. Dean Taylor was the only White chap to record on the Motown label. Great music, great label. Happy days. Still prefer Dobie Gray though!!

  • KTF

  • when I was seventeen, I considered myself a mod, this was my anthem then and it still is

  • top song, gets me dancing every time, a classic in its own right

  • One of THE best ever songs released on Motown. Haunting (pardon the pun!) vocals and hypnotic backing track.

Listen to his Gotta See Jane track - fantastic!

  • Great song ! Anybody knows where I could find guitar tabs of this song?

  • I have this as my ring tone, turned up full so that everybody gets to here it, great reactions at the checkout in Tesco.

  • fab

  • for bong R.I.P. THE TWILIGHT ZONE........C'MON RAB START IT UP ....No 1

  • My Kids Sit in the back of our Piccasso Clapping and singing along they are 19, 14, 13, They Love It and I hope there kids Do as well!!!!!!!

  • This is a sound that resonates through my soul, the abiding sound of my first all dayer at leeds, god knows when but it lives with me today

  • awesome takes me back to my youth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we are the MODS!

  • its all coming back i wished i had my old sx and gp

  • Soul and Lambrettas??? It doesn't get much better!

  • It's Sat night - and our youngest son (19) has just walked into the living room with his mates to see his dear mother and father (me) dancing our asses off to this in the middle of the living room... 'GOD!! Why can't you be like normal parents?....I'm going out..!!' He has no idea how 'cool' we were back in the day....Tsk..kids!

  • once upon a time there was a rhyme that told you things you couldn't believe you couldn't conceive if you found out about these things you would deny but secretly cry there was matthew who lived on the street he used to get beat by his dad not his mum who was also a bum but they ran away and went under they really felt the thunder finding some spare food people thought they were rude till they fell in a river and started to shiver till they past together never ever breathed again.

  • Always reminds me of the Carlton Club Warrington,....Graham Parker, Arsenal Al' Kev Egerton Etc...... Timeless Brilliance!

  • It reminds me of my TV 175...ahhhhhhh and my original Canadian Military Parka with a real (sorry not PC now) 12" Bear skin collar..plus tiger tails aerial streamer (this is PC as it was a false tigers tail sold with petrol in the UK in the early 70's) phew....

  • R Dean Taylor is a very talented songwriter. Also a very good singer and his music is very catchy i think. I love it. I love the older music better than modern day stuff they

    come up with.

  • I first heard this at the tender age of 14 back in 1982, one of those life changing tracks, 3 years later got a Vespa and haven't looked back!

  • i love this song its spooking me

  • Classic :-)

  • I'm 17, been into this music all my life, and will be for the rest of it. That's what being brought up by a mod and a soulboy does for you. ;)

    We Are The Newcastle Mods!

  • @EDLKTF oi mate I'm from Newcastle too. And I'm also 17 and have a mod for a dad haha

  • If only we could turn back the clock, listening to this and posing on my Lamy G.P.wearing my parka.

  • If only the clock could be turned back, listening to this, and posing on my lamy G.P150.

  • always maintains a place in my classic play list of those great scooter riding days

  • I'm 16 and even I can appreciate such a good song! god love my Dad and his LP's

  • @samuelbenson I'm 15/16 and I perfer to listen to Northern Soul/Motown etc. as they seem to have more pulse... in other words. Good lad!

  • @samuelbenson cant agree more pal im 25 but at a young age i loved this and still listen to it with my dad on the way to footy matches classic

  • @bigjimswfc1867 I know, when he finds all the cheap northern soul CD's from tesco, best thing ever!

  • saw R Dean Taylor live in Liverpool in the early 70's at the top rank suite, great memories, then went home on the back of my boyfriends Lambretta,Great Days!!!

  • I am in my fifties and never tire of this great song, from an old mod!

  • B Side "Let's go somewhere" was always recognised as the "dancer"

  • Shame this didn't hit the UK charts 6 months earlier than it did - because it would have been the perfect soundtrack for Brian Clough at Leeds in The Damned United.

  • ROUTE 66 LOL you couldnt afford a 66 bus you noob JOG ON ..THE ONLY SOFT SPOT IS YOUR DJICK ..ACCORDING TO YOUR BOYFREIND

  • its literally impossible to be miserable when listening to this tune ammmmmmmmazing love it ! shame I wasnt around in the northern soul glory dayd them all nighters looked aweeeeeeeesome

  • one of my all time favourites. the lyrics should resonate with everyone, while the tune just makes ya wanna dance. pure class

  • sitting in my easy chair, i feel ur fingers running through my hair.....!!!!!!!!! :D

  • he was the first to sign for motown, but not the only one.also bob seger would have been, but thought it would have a bad move and went to capital records .back in the 80's sam harris of star search fame made "sugar dont bite" under motown and it failed.he faded.just thought i'd throw that in.see ya....

  • Got the original still in the Tamla Motown sleeve - he was the 1st white guy they ever signed! Also still got all my old scooter run patches dating back to '82 IOW, seen some of these are fetchin £16 each on ebay - well I got about 40 but no way would I sell (I was in Renegades scooter club, Dorset and am 46 years old now!)

  • Sunny but cold afternoon in Borderline Records in Brighton, and ' Ghost In My House' is blaring out, left the shop but couldn't get this song outaa my head, had to go back an hour later and find who this is/was? Got the essential album of R. Dean Taylor, told the guy in the shop: "this just blew me away"! This music is....shithot!

  • When God made this World He had a Place in the North for its Soul

  • Motown !

  • When I was a child in Fitton Hill, there was a cock-eyed teenager who had a motor scooter just like that. I remember hearing, a few short years later, that he had died in a sad accident. But what a fucking great scooter he had!!!!

  • Bloody love this song!

  • I remember this from the mecca, if it has taken on commercial aspects since it did not seem like it at the time. Don't forget ' lets Go Somewhere Baby' , which could also seem commercial but were both well enjoyed sounds of the time

  • This isn't Northern Soul !!!!! it's Tamla Motown ffs

  • @DemonKnight68 well said mate,it is motown and the ffs sums up how i feel when motown sounds are "hi-jacked..next play some elvis down the pub and it will be the" nags head " or " the dog and gun"sound..thanks for posting this motown classic owtherdrove...ps the 9 dislikes...hope you get haunted

  • a classic, commercial northern soul track!

  • old tunes never die

  • Love this and the B side Lets go somewhere was very popular.ktf.

  • this song reminds me of quadraphinia, great film 'bout mods

  • This got into the Top 5 in the UK in spring 1974 when "Seasons In The Sun" topped the charts and around the same time was Lulu's "Man Who Sold The World" and Sparks "This Town Ain't Big Enough..."

I remember that these somewhat unusual hits had quite an effect on me and my mates in our first year of junior school - it was like music went from being the usual predictable, friendly tunes to something that also could be unexpected, dark and complex.

  • @krakenwave Have you heard - Roger K - Give me the love (I'm needing) ? This also has a bit of a spooky sound to it and was also played on the Northern Soul scene. It is on YouTube
