Canadian blue eyed soul at its most infectious. The Northern scene drove this classic into the UK charts in 1974. I was 14 years old and couldn't get enough of it, played the vinyl to death. This track has lost nothing of its appeal nearly four decades on. Music does not get much better than this.
@TDSouledOut1 I must agree, you get into the music and seek all the rare and unissued stuff where some is good and some isn't and you need to appreciate this stuff, lower your pretenciousness and realise how great thtese chart toppers were.
great memories, fantastic dancing, just a wonderful time to be alive, in my late fifties now, but this record has had me up dancing at the side of the laptop ha
Superb ! I believe, ( correct me if I am wrong), that R. Dean Taylor was the only White chap to record on the Motown label. Great music, great label. Happy days. Still prefer Dobie Gray though!!

It's Sat night - and our youngest son (19) has just walked into the living room with his mates to see his dear mother and father (me) dancing our asses off to this in the middle of the living room... 'GOD!! Why can't you be like normal parents?....I'm going out..!!' He has no idea how 'cool' we were back in the day....Tsk..kids!
once upon a time there was a rhyme that told you things you couldn't believe you couldn't conceive if you found out about these things you would deny but secretly cry there was matthew who lived on the street he used to get beat by his dad not his mum who was also a bum but they ran away and went under they really felt the thunder finding some spare food people thought they were rude till they fell in a river and started to shiver till they past together never ever breathed again.
It reminds me of my TV 175...ahhhhhhh and my original Canadian Military Parka with a real (sorry not PC now) 12" Bear skin collar..plus tiger tails aerial streamer (this is PC as it was a false tigers tail sold with petrol in the UK in the early 70's) phew....
R Dean Taylor is a very talented songwriter. Also a very good singer and his music is very catchy i think. I love it. I love the older music better than modern day stuff they
saw R Dean Taylor live in Liverpool in the early 70's at the top rank suite, great memories, then went home on the back of my boyfriends Lambretta,Great Days!!!
Shame this didn't hit the UK charts 6 months earlier than it did - because it would have been the perfect soundtrack for Brian Clough at Leeds in The Damned United.

This got into the Top 5 in the UK in spring 1974 when "Seasons In The Sun" topped the charts and around the same time was Lulu's "Man Who Sold The World" and Sparks "This Town Ain't Big Enough..."
I remember that these somewhat unusual hits had quite an effect on me and my mates in our first year of junior school - it was like music went from being the usual predictable, friendly tunes to something that also could be unexpected, dark and complex.
@krakenwave Have you heard - Roger K - Give me the love (I'm needing) ? This also has a bit of a spooky sound to it and was also played on the Northern Soul scene. It is on YouTube

I remember the first time I heard this, I was totally blown away. I just loved the sound and became hooked on Northern Soul & the 60's Motown sound.
