  • Yep they will grow here, brought some seeds back from US. They're like small Lupins. Not to detract from KR's great version of this song.................

  • @lurgainn thanks - got the seeds - agree brilliant rendition - awesome even

  • @lurgainn , Wow, good for you for getting them up from seeds! I tried for years to grow them from seeds and I live in Texas. Finally established some in my yard using plants I bought at a feed store. They are lupins and we saw plenty of those in Scotland and England so there's no reason they shouldn't grow there for you. Congratulations!

  • Anyone tried growing bluebonnets in the UK?

  • I love Kates Our Town cover and this is is great - maybe a Kate cover album of US country would be good - I love this rendition and Kate's Our Town cover.

  • So so moved. It amazes me that Kate has not kept this beautiful song in her set.

  • One of my favorite Nanci Griffith songs by one of my favorite English singers. With pictures from my neighborhood.

    Perfect!

  • Wow....superb version...the sentiment behind the song...everything...beautifully sung...left simple..Nancy Griffith and Kate Rusby ...what a pair of songwriter/singers they are !!xxx

  • This is from a collaboration album called 'Intuition'. It features many fine female artists: Kathleen Deighton, Rosalie Deighton, Julie Matthews, Kathryn Roberts and Pat Shaw.

This album also contains the almost completely a-capella song 'Hunting the Hare'.

  • OMG! I love you! You don't know how long I've been trying to find her version! [and remember her last name!] THANK YOU!

  • This is absolutely magnificent. And thank you for the lyrics.

  • I thought no-one could top Emmylou Harris's version of this, then I heard Kate sing it...

  • I love Nancy Griffith's music, but I must say, Kate sings this one even better...

  • Is this really Kate ?

  • @stevetrellis could it be anyone else? Her voice is amazingly distinctive because of her beautiful Barnsley accent :) As has been said though, this is from her early days when she was younger and sang a wee bit higher than she does now.

  • @Mirrigold I'd love to hear Kate sing it now !!

  • This is one of my favorite Nanci Griffith tunes. She's an amazing singer/songwriter. Kate does this justice. :) Thanks for sharing!

  • Everytime I hear this song and no matter who sings it, falls a tear from my eyes.

  • Its a Naci Griffiths Song a Duet she did with Darius from Hootie and the Blowfish

  • Oh, I love this one! Thank you for uploading it!

  • Her voice seems to be a little different here, as if she'd sung it when she was younger. Did she?

    Beautiful :)

  • @SlothCalledSid I believe this was from the early 90's, from when she was duetting with Kathryn Roberts, so she would have been much younger. Probably early 20's? It is, indeed, beautiful. But then, Kate could sing the phone book and it would be beautiful. :D

  • @SlothCalledSid A big part of the difference is that she's singing about a fourth higher than we're used to hearing her.....

  • Oh MAN!.... a combination of my two favourites……BLISS!

  • Thank you for introducing me to a new tune by this precious lady.

  • You would probably like another one of Griffith's song's called Drive in movie's and dashboard lights.. Give it a try for us!

  • This little tune was written by Nanci Griffith in the 80's most of her song's went unrecognized until someone major sang one of her tunes like, Love at the five and dime and Outbound plane...

  • It seems to come from a Fish Records cd called 'Intuition' (1993) featuring Kathryn Roberts and Kate Rusby among others. Kate Rusby covers a Nanci Griffiths song, presumably 'GCH", and a Mary Chapin-Carpenter song.

  • An excellent version of one of my favourite Naci songs.

  • This is now at the top of my list for Kate's best covers...I'm sure Nanci would be proud. Thank you so much for posting.

  • this is quite possibly one of my favorite cover songs ever. thank you for this!

  • Heaven sent.

  • Lovely...

  • My God Rusby08...you have made my Saturday finding this , thank you for posting .I have been a Nanci fan a long time, but I have to tell you I like this version better. I am 80 miles from the Gulf , to have Kate, the song and the ocean crossed in me is wonderful

  • @lee5371918 I grew up on the Gulf Coast, Highway 90 runs thru my hometown, and my gran used to have a rice farm. First time I heard Kate sing this cover I was hooked! Seemed like she was talking to me.

  • Beautiful rendition...From one wonderful Singer....By another (Nanci Griffith)
