how can i do this to my gun? is there specfic directions on doing the grip chop? something i can do my self or do i have to have professionals do it? i bought the xdm a year ago but really wanted a sub compact. it was my first gun and the store didn't have any so i just bought the full size. hard to carry sometimes. please let me know. thanks

You cleared the gun of a fully loaded magazine, and then turned around and put right back in. Then you proceeded to aim it everywhere. Great way to be safe.
@jhargett32 The point was to make sure no round was in the chamber not to make sure there was no ammo in the weapon. Their wasn't a round in the chamber so even if I was unsafe and put my finger on the trigger and pressed it nothing would happen. I pointed it where it did no harm, no round was chambered and finger was off the trigger the whole time. I did more chamber checks in one video than most people do in a week. Verifying that the weapon is not in a condition to fire is safety.
I've got a couple other pieces but the XD is def my fav but I've been wanting to do this for ovr a year now. Its time man. Ill def take my time . Im usually really good at doin shit like this. Its worth the experience anyway

@biggmattlee That's not true. What about hammer less revolvers and glocks who call their actions "safety actions" but are based off a double action only trigger? @cjleger337 An internal striker revolver has double strike capabilities because the trigger performs two actions. Its moves the trigger to the rear and releases it to fall forward and strike the primer. A Glock does not have double strike capabilities because once the striker is dropped the trigger cannot move it rearward again. The slide being cycled does that. Therefore Glocks are not double action. Their trigger performs one action. A Sig P250 is DAO. Go study the difference...
If you are concealed carry, I recommend hollow point ammo, so your round does not go through your target then hit an innocent victim..... do you have to pulling back the slide?
@KESEDTUBE I use hollow points. Speer Gold Dot 147gr +p to be exact. As for the pulling the slide to the rear its my way of making sure the weapon is clear. Respond to this video... FYI the full size and Subcompact are different sizes. His being a 4inch barrel and a SC having a 3inch barrel. The full size has a larger/longer grip as well , so he basically chopped the lower part of the grip to give it the same size of as the subcompact and it doesnt stick out so much when concealing. He can interchange magazines as well. Great mod actually.

Its the same concept Springfield used on their .45acp Compact but people still don't get why I did it to my 9mm. I bet if Springfield sold them that way they would sell like hot cakes.

@Gvpaohlubhmoob2011 Another logical reason would be if you could only find the compact version for $150 more than the standard size....... I had that problem when looking for my G27, I couldnt find one for a long time under $500 (used) but G22's were a dime a dozen..... and since the grip is the biggest factor in concealment, that would have made sense to me, cutting down a G22 instead of paying $100+ for a G27 for the same level of concealment.

@bigmahfood yes sir, youre right. Shooting wise, Id have to say that SAO is smoother, but its not something you will notice if you dont shoot alot. Id say its safer too, thats why lots of people with Glocks have accidental discharges when holstering, etc.

The XD looks like a double action pistol but it isn’t, and it doesn’t shoot like one.Theres more to a gun than just looks.
Hey how did your uncle dremmel your XD .40 to fit that sleeve. I ask because I have the same full size pistol like yours and I have a magazine sleeve to get more grip. But, when i put it on a regular 12 round clip the magazine doesnt fit into the mag well. it comes up short. I noticed you said you have a 18 round mag. is that how you fit the sleeve and the magazine? But you said ur uncle dremmeld ur pistol. Any info would help. Thanks bro
@BattleCobra No prob, for starters my XD was a 9mm not a .40S&W. 2ndly the Mecgar mags carry more rounds than the factory 16 round mags. 3rdly my uncle simply chopped my service model grip into a subcompact model grip. Whenever I wanted to used a full size magazine I would simply use a mag with the grip sleeve. If you google "xd grip chop" the first hyperlink you show you instructions as well as photos to see exactly what I had my uncle do. Its what I showed him to convince him it could be done.
I have the .40 sub-compact. 'Awesome' firearm. Reliable function, repeatable accuracy, great style, and I love the way it sits in my hand compared to the glock.

i just brought the xd 9mm sub compact and i love it. it was the only gun that felt real good in my hands other then the springfield ranger officer 1911.
9mm isnt underpowered at all, the round has its own perks. I personally have a 9mm and a 45 acp. i do favor the 45 acp but thats only because it holds 3 less rounds than my baretta but a round will do twice the damage. if you have to shoot someone, you want it to kill. other wise they can possibly get you arrested and put in jail no matter why you had to shoot them. with my 9mm at close range you can fire as fast as you want and hit the target every time, thats the 9mm perk
Would you consider,or better yet,is there a real benefit to replace the slide guide rod with a aftermarket thats made of solid cnc machined metal ? I own the XD9 and I'm wondering what others opinions were.I also own a Beretta Storm .40 and the guide rod is plastic that actually flexes.I want to replace that but I cannot locate a company who makes a all metal guide rod.Maybe their is a reson for it being plastic,I don't know?
I don't replace them on my Glocks. They have never failed me yet. After thousands of rounds they may be replaced but I've never had to do it. I have a few in the inventory just in case. There is no need to change it. If you want to change it make sure you save the factory parts because I have seen after market parts fail though I doubt this will. Stick with what works IMHO.

Actually they have done this for the XD45 but its the only one they've done it to from the factory. Check out their website under XD compact and you'll see the compact 45s that feature a ten round magazine with an optional 13 round full size magazine w/ polymer sleeve.
If they want a .45 Some people can't handle that round and prefer something with less recoil. I have since sold these XDs and now I have a fullsize XD45. But it ain't a concealed carry gun to me.
I ask because you're wrong, they don't and yet you say they do. You're not the first to say this but no one has posted any evidence to their claim. Maybe you should read the comments left prior to yours. Then you'd be informed that this has been challenged before.

There is give and take on both designs. Far too many to get into but the two things I really love about my Glocks are their superb light weight and the fact that I can do almost any gunsmithing work because the design is so ingeniously simple.
Not jumpy just quick to correct inaccurate statements as soon as possible because people will read them and repeat them. As you can see from my other vid I have sold those XD's and now I mainly have Glocks for CCW but when it was time to buy a 45 I had to go with the XD45. (The gun I wanted all along but when I went to my shop back then they did not have it though they told me they did over the phone... losers.) Either way I was happy then and I'm happy now.
Sure. Close to a thousand rounds with no issues. I've upgraded my pistol light to a TLR-1 but I still use the NCStar with my shotgun and it done well in that roll as well.
As mentioned i the video it is manufactured by NCStar. It is a relatively inexpensive and pretty descent like. Depending on your budget I would also reccomend you look into the TLR-1 by Streamlight. I have a couple on my Glocks and they get the job done. If you are really gonna torture test it and run it hard then you might wanna look at the Surefire X200 or X300. They are heavy duty but come at a heavy duty price. Best of luck to you in choosing a light. -eL
nice springfield. i have 2 compact xd's. i love the safties and the smoothness of the gun. i have used lots of accessories like lights and lasers from air-soft bb guns. they're cheaper and they fit too! LOL ever do that? later..
I can't say I've ever done that but some people think everything you own has to be milspec and indestructible. The truth is you need to use what you got because sometimes good enough is good enough.
If you find the opportunity to upgrade then do so at your own discretion.

A.Contact Springfield if you want a new barrel. They have them. I don't know of any after-market makers. Why do you want a new barrel?
B. Most modern handguns are more accurate then its shooter. I would say any mechanical difference between XD & Glock in accuracy would be insignificant.
C. Mecgar makes the 18 round mags. Google the term "MGXD918AFC"

This can also be done to Glocks. Bowie Tactical and others can make a G17 accept G19 mags for better "concealabilty" while still maintaining a long sight radius.

Respond to this video... FYI the full size and Subcompact are different sizes. His being a 4inch barrel and a SC having a 3inch barrel. The full size has a larger/longer grip as well , so he basically chopped the lower part of the grip to give it the same size of as the subcompact and it doesnt stick out so much when concealing. He can interchange magazines as well. Great mod actually.

@Gvpaohlubhmoob2011 Another logical reason would be if you could only find the compact version for $150 more than the standard size....... I had that problem when looking for my G27, I couldnt find one for a long time under $500 (used) but G22's were a dime a dozen..... and since the grip is the biggest factor in concealment, that would have made sense to me, cutting down a G22 instead of paying $100+ for a G27 for the same level of concealment.

@bigmahfood The XD series of pistols are classified as single action, not double action or “safe action.” When the slide cycles, the striker is fully cocked, not partially in the way the Glock is. The XD looks like a double action pistol but it isn’t, and it doesn’t shoot like one.Theres more to a gun than just looks.

Hey how did your uncle dremmel your XD .40 to fit that sleeve. I ask because I have the same full size pistol like yours and I have a magazine sleeve to get more grip. But, when i put it on a regular 12 round clip the magazine doesnt fit into the mag well. it comes up short. I noticed you said you have a 18 round mag. is that how you fit the sleeve and the magazine? But you said ur uncle dremmeld ur pistol. Any info would help. Thanks bro

@BattleCobra No prob, for starters my XD was a 9mm not a .40S&W. 2ndly the Mecgar mags carry more rounds than the factory 16 round mags. 3rdly my uncle simply chopped my service model grip into a subcompact model grip. Whenever I wanted to used a full size magazine I would simply use a mag with the grip sleeve. If you google "xd grip chop" the first hyperlink you show you instructions as well as photos to see exactly what I had my uncle do. Its what I showed him to convince him it could be done.

9mm isnt underpowered at all, the round has its own perks. I personally have a 9mm and a 45 acp. i do favor the 45 acp but thats only because it holds 3 less rounds than my baretta but a round will do twice the damage. if you have to shoot someone, you want it to kill. other wise they can possibly get you arrested and put in jail no matter why you had to shoot them. with my 9mm at close range you can fire as fast as you want and hit the target every time, thats the 9mm perk

Would you consider,or better yet,is there a real benefit to replace the slide guide rod with a aftermarket thats made of solid cnc machined metal ? I own the XD9 and I'm wondering what others opinions were.I also own a Beretta Storm .40 and the guide rod is plastic that actually flexes.I want to replace that but I cannot locate a company who makes a all metal guide rod.Maybe their is a reson for it being plastic,I don't know?

I don't replace them on my Glocks. They have never failed me yet. After thousands of rounds they may be replaced but I've never had to do it. I have a few in the inventory just in case. There is no need to change it. If you want to change it make sure you save the factory parts because I have seen after market parts fail though I doubt this will. Stick with what works IMHO.

Actually they have done this for the XD45 but its the only one they've done it to from the factory. Check out their website under XD compact and you'll see the compact 45s that feature a ten round magazine with an optional 13 round full size magazine w/ polymer sleeve.

There is give and take on both designs. Far too many to get into but the two things I really love about my Glocks are their superb light weight and the fact that I can do almost any gunsmithing work because the design is so ingeniously simple.

Not jumpy just quick to correct inaccurate statements as soon as possible because people will read them and repeat them. As you can see from my other vid I have sold those XD's and now I mainly have Glocks for CCW but when it was time to buy a 45 I had to go with the XD45. (The gun I wanted all along but when I went to my shop back then they did not have it though they told me they did over the phone... losers.) Either way I was happy then and I'm happy now.

As mentioned i the video it is manufactured by NCStar. It is a relatively inexpensive and pretty descent like. Depending on your budget I would also reccomend you look into the TLR-1 by Streamlight. I have a couple on my Glocks and they get the job done. If you are really gonna torture test it and run it hard then you might wanna look at the Surefire X200 or X300. They are heavy duty but come at a heavy duty price. Best of luck to you in choosing a light. -eL

A.Contact Springfield if you want a new barrel. They have them. I don't know of any after-market makers. Why do you want a new barrel?
B. Most modern handguns are more accurate then its shooter. I would say any mechanical difference between XD & Glock in accuracy would be insignificant.
C. Mecgar makes the 18 round mags. Google the term "MGXD918AFC"

Plus mine isn't a 5 inch barrel. Its a service model so its 4 inches barrel. Show me an XD 9mm with a 4 inch barrel that took both sub-combact mags and fullsize mags and was produced by SA in late 2005... You won't find it. It was a custom job.

Its not an original idea of mine. If you google XD grip chop you'll see other brave souls have done it as well.I'm not brave or handy so I asked my uncle to do it. LOL
This can also be done to Glocks. Bowie Tactical and others can make a G17 accept G19 mags for better "concealabilty" while still maintaining a long sight radius.
