I used to work out in the Long Beach dojo. Mr. Ohshima would come once a week to lead practice. For a long time, I used to drive into L.A. on Sundays to watch him teach black belts. It was wonderful. He was a shining light even then--a pleasure to be around and to talk to. I have never forgotten him or his philosophy, which still resonates inside me to this day. Thank you, Mr. Ohshima!

A very interesting guy, I Still have a lot to learn. A good teacher is a teacher for the whole life. I think Mr Oshima is one of this teachers you wish you always had.

Ohshima Sensei, as I learnt to know him 25 years back when practicing Karatedo at the University: strong mind, big heart and the sole motivation to help others to make it through life. Special training became my personal "gate to heaven". I'm very touched and grateful.

That was a great message. Now I know the true essence of Karate. It's not about breaking boards, or winning title matches. The philosophy of karate is respect for one another.
