The way an M3 is supposed to be one of my all time favorite cars. Nothing against the newer M3`s but I would rather have two E30 in silver, and white please.

I grew up hammering front engined-read wheel drive cars and there's no comparison to it when it comes to having proper sideways fun. Mind you, they were old bangers, nothing like an M3 ;-)

wait did they honestly compete with RWD cars in rally back in the day? how well did they do against the AWD competition? not good at all I would guess.. or did they have their own RWD class to compete in?

@CrashBandikoot7 It was ALL RWD back then.. and then came the first Audi Quattro which once they managed to tame the beast, it completely swept all the top spots. The rest is history - as you know it nowadays -

@CrashBandikoot7 of course they did.. there were some categories with FWD cars which are easier to handle in slippery surfaces. Having said that RWD cars are in my opinion much more fun to drive!! I remember stealing my old man's Peugeot 404 "le mans" and following rally circuits at full throttle.. best fun I ever had - and worst beating ever of the car! - I once cracked the body of the car in half.. the car kept together by the steering wheel column.. epic. My dad thought otherwise tho :P

The road legal E30 Sport Evo version in 1990 had 238hp from a 2,5litre straight 4, no turbo. My guess is the racing version made those 300hp without a turbo too.

The engine was so good in racing they kept using it in touring car races way into the late 90's, long after the E30 BMW had stopped being produced.
