She was regularly invited to sing at IIT Madras. I have been very lucky to attend one such concert. She had to remind us that the concert was over :) People were so engrossed in her voice and were waiting for her to sing more songs that they just sat there when she had stopped singing. She had to subtly remind us "nallapadiya Kutcheryya mudikkanum nu nenachen, mudichutten..." Thats when the crowd realized that the concert was over.. They were otherwise expecting more songs. :)

"Ranga pura viharam" in Raga Brindavani Saranga sung by (Late) D.K.Pattammal is one the most outstanding rendering of that Raga I have ever heard in my life! There are no words to describe the melodious voice, total devotion and the utmost beauty that is revealed in this song. Her passing away has been one of the most shocking events of this millennium.

Even at this age, she has the heart & innocence of a child. She truly feels passionately about her country and having lived under the British and then achieving independence, I assume she knows more than the rest of us about patriotism.

I cried too, so i probably know exactly how you felt.

I used to watch DKP Amma's concerts as a kid. If you guys did not know, she used to visit IIT madras very frequently and perform there. Even MS Subbulakshmi used to visit IIT. So I have seen many Kutcherys of her from a very young age. The day I heard that MS Amma died, I was very sad, it was a personal loss for me because I had developed a special bond with her and love for her voice.
