Thank you for putting LK2 on there! As for Toy Story 3, I can honestly say that I didn't cry at the end. However,I think it has to be one of the best movie comebacks. In a few years time, kids'll be complaining about having to wait 11 minutes for it and we'd be like "I had to wait 11 years!"
I totally agree with pretty much your whole list. I am SOOO glad that Rescuers Down Under made it to the top five, and Toy Story 3 is definitely number 1 in sequels.
I will admit, when Toy Story 3 popped up as #1, I literally shouted "AMEN TO THAT!!!!!"
Well Matt, I'll have to agree with you that Toy Story 3 is the best sequel out there. I still remember when my friends, my Dad, and I went to see this. Around the ending when Woody, Buzz, and the other toys were falling toward the furnace and at the end, I started to cry my eyes out. It was so bad that peoplecould see the tears falling off my 3D glasses and my Dad made fun of me for that. SO Toy Story 3 truly is the best sequel with the saddest ending out there.
I watched Aladdin and the King of Thieves almost everyday when I was little. I could quote it. I danced to the songs and acted out my favorite parts. Thanks for bringing back those memories. And I agree with you Zera is a better villan than Scar. She scared me when I was little. And yes i did cry at the end of Toy Story 3. It was my senior year! i had just graduated. i couldn't help it.
2.One of the better sequels I've seen, I really liked it better than the first one .Oh and good one with the whole "Warrior of Black and White" and "Dragon Warrior" title joke, did you clone yourself or is the magic of editing? XD
1.I should have seen that one coming but totally deserves the spot.Yup, that movie was made exactly for the people that grew up with the first 2.I mean with the intense climax (so far the most intense from Pixar) and of course the smiles and the tears at the end.
4-I really enjoyed it, watched alot of times and let's face it, the first 2 Shrek movies are great but the other 2? Eeeeh I hate those DX... Oh R.I.P William Steig
3-One of the best Disney sequels and the most underrated of the Disney Renaissance. McLeach really is one of Disney's most threating villians, Medusa was a greddy bitch but she is more of the bitch you want to kick out of your neighbourhood.
6-1/2 was funny but I didn't like it very much , like you said Simba's Pride respects the original better.Oh and you have a really good point about Zira! 0oo D8
5-You never saw the Mother's Day episode?... Critics and fans consider Rugrats in Paris the best Rugrats movie and I agree with it (I mean the first one of course it was kinda dark and introduced Dil and the third one was a bad crossover with The Thornberries).
10-According to Roushutsu, the 8th movie is the best Pokemon movie plotwise, oh blame some of the bad acting to the 4Kids dub (I bet the japanese version is superior)
9-My favorite I guess is the Firebird Suite
8-I actually read of the first one in a magazine and....Wait Ghost in the Shell was the inspiration for The Matrix? No wonder why I didn't get it
7-Yay! This is one of my favorite Disney sequels! 8D True it was WAAY better than Return of Jafar
Hey Mat, just responding to your question about Chuckie's mom from Rugrats. There was an episode, Mother's Day and in it, we actually see her, and her name was Melinda. And a little while later, one of the writers of the show, I think it was Paul Germain, he revealed in an interview that she died when Chuckie was six months old, she was terminally ill with breast cancer. I'm not 100% sure, but I think he also said she was a writer. She wrote a beautiful poem we hear at the end of the episode.
the disappearance of haruhi suzumiya should replace something on the list like the Pokemon movie, also everyone always forgets about Pocahontas 2, i actually find it much more interesting than the original Pocahontas
Did you say Gary Oldman?Hold on lemme get simething*grabs black cloak, blue & black paint, and spider gloves*One second*pnts face blue with black stripes and puts on cloak and spider gloves*ahem SPIDERS*wiggles fingers while saying spiders*
Pokemon the first movie was awesome, Glad Aladdin and the King of Theives was on the list. I hated Kung-Fu-Panda so definately not seeing the 2nd one. And Toy Story is Disney, why don't you think that??? Your funny tho bro, good work!
Pokemon? Wow. I kind of like Team Rocket, but the movies were usually crap, and I hate pretty much all the heroes except Misty. Especially Ash! But I'm gonna have to tell my parents that Pokemon can actually be decent when it tries.
Here's some ideas for some Top 10 Lists: Annoying Sidekicks Overrated Villains Overrated Animated Films Best Pixar Films Best Studio Ghibli Films Saddest Animated Films Most Underrated Animated Films Best Tim Burton Films Most Underrated Animated Characters That's all the ideas I have! I hope you can at least make in of these in the future! :-)
Yes, a pokemon movie on a top ten list is rare but I have to agree, Lucario and the Mystery of Mew is my favorite of the movies so far. So... I'm just happy to have this one on a list, even though it's at the bottom. So, thanks for the placement Animat.
Here's another idea for something like this, Top 10 most Overated Animated films. It's defiantly gotta have Pixar's Cars which a lot of people including me think is Pixar's most overrated film.
One reason why you shouldn't have chosen Lion King 1 1/2 is that it's not really a sequel, it's just a retelling of the original from Timon and Pumba's point of view. And like you said earlier, prequels and spin-offs don't count.
I did cry at the end of Toy Story 3, but Randy Newman's song "We Belong Together" made up for it instantly!
I agree witha lot of the ones you put in the 'runners up' category (mainly as the ones in the actual list I havn't seen) I do however, agree with Lion King 2 and Toy Story 3
I would have added Madagascar escape 2 Africa because I agree it's slightly better than the first one. (the first one was a tad flawed to begin with, while the second one corrected some of these flaws)
Thank you SO MUCH for putting Lucario and the Mystery of Mew on the list! It is, by far, mine and my sister's fave Pokemon movie!
And also, I liked Kung Fu Panda 2. (SPOILER: I like the idea of Baby Po in the radish basket.) And I got sort of teary eyed at the end of Toy Story 3.
@nddlj He Lives in You. You can find it on the Rhythm of the Pride Lands album, which is really good overall, and has another song cut from the original film too.
@ilovelucasg4eva What's the Rhythm of the Pride Lands? Is that the album for the Disney movie or the Broadway musical? I have the CD from the Broadway musical from like 7-ish year ago (would that song be in it?)
What's the other song cut from the original?
And do you know why they cut He Lives In You from the first movie? Sorry for bombarding you with these questions lol, I'm just a curious cat ;)
@nddlj Rhythm of the Pride Lands was an album that I believe was released shortly (I'd say within a couple of years) after the first movie.
Warthog Rhapsody is also included in Rhythm of the Pride Lands. It was essentially a song telling Simba how to (and why to) eat bugs. It's pretty much the prototype of Hakuna Matata.
I don't know why He Lives In You was removed from the first movie. They might not have had a place to put it or the test audience didn't feel that it fit well.
these really are the best sequels i loved the lion king 2 and aladdin king of theives toy story 3 was also amazing....no it actually redefines the word :Y
I know one person who didn't cry at the end of Toy story 3: Doug Walker AKA The Nostalgia critic. He said so when he did his video on what he thought were the best films of 2010. He actually said that he was laughing for some reason that I don't really remember. If you want proof, go to his site and watch that video on his best films of 2010.
Awesome list!!! I have to nitpick and say you pronouce "ghibli" with the "j" consonant like "gesture". Other than that, glad you mentioned Fantasia 2000, Firebird is one of my favorite animation sequences!
I just want to talk about (I mean settle) the Scar vs Zira debate:
(Ahem) Sure, Zira's intentions were more terryfying than Scar's were. But it's not about intentions that make a villain evil, it's their deeds. Zira planned to kill Simba and take over thee Pride Lands. Scar actually killed Muffassa and took over the Pride Lands! Scar succeeded where Zira failed! Plus, Scar's "Be Prepared" was more scary than Zira's "One Of Us!" Scar: 3 Zira: Zero (Her name says it all!)
a dissagree with the fact that you put a pokemon movue on this list and i also on hiw you downgraded ghost in the shell, but hey everyone has their own fair opinion (I just really wished that you would've put emperors new groove 2 on this list)
Great list! I have to admit though I was looking forward to seeing Fievel Goes West on the list, but I guess I'll have to do with seeing it used behind the numbers.
All of the points you made were great, and the only one I disagreed with was Simba's Pride. I'm not a fan of direct-to-video sequels, but I don't feel like going on a hate rant right now, and I confess King of Thieves is the only DTV one I don't hate, mostly because Robin Williams returned.
10)Lucario is no doubt an amazing plot device. 9)For me the whole purpose of Fantasia is to show how music can have an impact on the movie 8)How did I not know about this?! 7)......... 6)Loveitlovitlovit! I wuv ze Lion King! And Zira isn't more evil than Scar, but I like her a lot more 5)Tsunami! AAAH! 4)22:33Oh what a dude will do to get laid... 3)I don't care you ripped off N.C. I love you both 2)QUIT TORTURING ME! I still haven't seen it! T^T 1)M. Bison:OF COURSE!
@IndianaJonesfans09 Everyone does it! Animat just hasn't. Lists made over are okay as long as they aren't done by the same people. Cause then you can look at different people's opinion on the same subject :3
Animat, I love your sense of humor. Between all your vids so far, I've laughed more than I have in a long time. And I've learned ALOT about animation from your "Animation Lookbacks" and seen some interesting points about the films. I think I speak for all your subscribers by saying thanks for the ride and keep 'em coming!
I was surprised to see two of my favorite disney sequels on this! I adore King of Thieves and Simba's Pride. I personally didn't like Lion King 1 and a 1/2, partially because it didn't need to be made. I would have rather seen what happened between 1 and 2... Oh, and I was curious about your thoughts on Bambi and Peter Pan 2?
Great countdown, Matt!! Bonus points for adding Rugrats in Paris in the top 5; heavily underrated film!!! BTW, what are some of the sequels you mentioned at the end of the video that you like?
Lucario was a great film and pikachu will always be a star in pokemon, Fantasia 2000 had wonderful music, pomp & circumstance was my favorite, Robin Williams made Aladdin 3 ROCK. did anyone think Lion King 2 had a couple actors from Spirited Away. well tommy had a spotlight in the original movie. yup shrek 2 stands above the other shrek movies. Rescuers Down Under is as old as me. WOW Toy story 3 being #1
I'm sure I'm going to get hate mail for saying this; but I personally didn't like Ghost in the Shell due to it's philosophy, I think it's too over-the-top. It's #5 on my top 5 movies I hate but everyone else loves blog, and if innocence had more philosophy than the first one, than I should stay as far away from that movie as possible.
Everyone is going to HATE me for saying this but i like Lion King II better then the Lion King. Reason? I like how its Romeo and Juliet and i think the plot is fantastic. And i like how they have a FEMALE villain i just find everything about it better. (please don't kill me)
@Rock29Roll I know its the Lion King it might be just because i seen the Lion King so many times that its gotten dull but I do think its better then Lion King its just what i think. Its not like i'm saying T.V spin offs of movies are better then the movie.
While I don't agree with everything here, I found it refreshing that you stretched your horizons, instead of just standard, Pixar, Disney, Dreamworks, Blue Sky, etc. You looked at other studios and even "foreign" films. A thumbs up for adding a Pokemon movie, none of those films have super-strong characters or plot, but they are enjoyable to watch.
i know everyone's sick of these kinda comments, but, really, what else did you expect from a critic(he's more of a critic rather than a reviewer) that's talking about animated sequels?
YES!!!! Simba’s Pride is on here!!! And don’t worry, I totally agree with you when you say that Zira is better. She and her family were the reason I became so interested in villains in the first place. And for a while I would always consider her to be my favourite, that is until Lord Shen came and beat her (I am in the middle of making a documentary just for him).
I love your video reviews and such, I'm a subscriber. Please keep up the good work! I just wanted to point out that I've noticed in multiple videos, you've mispronounced john lasseter's as john lassenter. PLease don't think I'm trying to be nit-picker or a smart-ass, I just wanted to let you know. Again, keep up the good work, I look forward to ur future videos!

I would have put Madagascar escape 2 Africa on the list for one reason : It's a good example on a sequel that corrects were the original went wrong.
For example, the first Madagascar had a week plot that spoofs Gilligan's Island. Escape 2 Africa though, gives us a story with more development.
The animation was nice in the 1st, but it was upgraded in the 2nd.
In the 1st, the characters are likable and memorable, but in the 2nd, we learn to love them Even More!

I look forward to any future lists!

@metademetra um nostalgia critic did the top 11 disney villians
IndianaJonesfans09 4 months ago
@IndianaJonesfans09 Everyone does it! Animat just hasn't. Lists made over are okay as long as they aren't done by the same people. Cause then you can look at different people's opinion on the same subject :3
metademetra 4 months ago
@metademetra the first 3 top 10 that you mentiond you geath from the nostalgia critic right?

@dcspartan117 Only two buddy

@metademetra Top villians has already been done by the nostalgia critic. However, a top ten hero songs hasn't been done yet, so that's a possiblity.

Animat, I love your sense of humor. Between all your vids so far, I've laughed more than I have in a long time. And I've learned ALOT about animation from your "Animation Lookbacks" and seen some interesting points about the films. I think I speak for all your subscribers by saying thanks for the ride and keep 'em coming!

sorry to say but there is more good sequels than on the list.

JacobAnimationCritic 5 months ago
4. This was great, but why did they have to ruin it with the 3rd and 4th one?
3. It's good, but I always wondered what happened to the animals that was in the poacher's hideout, did they get out?
2. That was great, my favorite part's were actually seeing baby Po, he was so cute.
1. Makes sense to make that number 1. I still don't know why my mom didn't like this so much.

I friggen love you Animat! You've have great taste in animated films, a wonderful review style, and your personality is just classic.
Excited about Animation Lookback: Don BLuth.
Philosphyfanatic 5 months ago 4
10. That one was good but my favorite was the 3rd one with Entie.
9. Like what I said before the segment with the sprite was my favorite.
8. I heard of the first one from AnimeAmerica, are you an anime fan?
7. This was before Disney straight to video movies blew. I loved it.
6. I like that one too. My little brother always told me to look up the not one of us song almost all the time.
5. I liked that more then the first one, and it was really touching.

8: i never saw this movie.
7: the 3rd aladdin movie was o.k. in my opinion, but still good choice.
6: lion king 2 was really great.
5:The 2nd Rugrats film was better than the 1st one.
4: i can't get enough of puss in boots' sad cat eyes!
3: YAY! IT'S MY FAVORITE DISNEY FILM EVER!
2: i gotta watch this movie!
1:OMG! this movie was perfect!!!!
SHADOWASH7 5 months ago
Lucario was a great film and pikachu will always be a star in pokemon, Fantasia 2000 had wonderful music, pomp & circumstance was my favorite, Robin Williams made Aladdin 3 ROCK. did anyone think Lion King 2 had a couple actors from Spirited Away. well tommy had a spotlight in the original movie. yup shrek 2 stands above the other shrek movies. Rescuers Down Under is as old as me. WOW Toy story 3 being #1
joshuaorro 5 months ago
I'm sure I'm going to get hate mail for saying this; but I personally didn't like Ghost in the Shell due to it's philosophy, I think it's too over-the-top. It's #5 on my top 5 movies I hate but everyone else loves blog, and if innocence had more philosophy than the first one, than I should stay as far away from that movie as possible.

Great list, with a few interesting choices that I didn't expect, which was mainly the two anime films.
BTW, you play Team Fortress 2 as well?

Everyone is going to HATE me for saying this but i like Lion King II better then the Lion King. Reason? I like how its Romeo and Juliet and i think the plot is fantastic. And i like how they have a FEMALE villain i just find everything about it better. (please don't kill me)
Silverstar1311 5 months ago
@Silverstar1311 Lion King? Really? I can give plenty of other films that are all around better than their preceders, but IT'S THE STINKIN' LION KING!
Rock29Roll 5 months ago
@Rock29Roll I know its the Lion King it might be just because i seen the Lion King so many times that its gotten dull but I do think its better then Lion King its just what i think. Its not like i'm saying T.V spin offs of movies are better then the movie.

While I don't agree with everything here, I found it refreshing that you stretched your horizons, instead of just standard, Pixar, Disney, Dreamworks, Blue Sky, etc. You looked at other studios and even "foreign" films. A thumbs up for adding a Pokemon movie, none of those films have super-strong characters or plot, but they are enjoyable to watch.

thumps up if you expected no.1 to be toy story 3,
i know everyone's sick of these kinda comments, but, really, what else did you expect from a critic(he's more of a critic rather than a reviewer) that's talking about animated sequels?
LucyLovesTheClassics 5 months ago
Maybe you need a formula to remember how to spell his name, Lasset- er.

And HELL YEAH Kung Fu Panda 2 is here!! WOOT!!!
