  • I think I want to live in China. I love the food, how can you not want to live in a place you can have those noodles for breakfast? I guess I better learn Mandarin stat.

  • fuck this guy is boss

  • black guy speaking Mandarin < Wood-pole between you balls..........

  • majority of the black people on this planet speak more than 1 language..hello Africa, most people speak 2-3 languages minimum :)

  • @ohmsasucam I know right... thank you lol.

  • yao ming approve this video!

  • Aww, I just find it so interesting when people who aren't natives (like black and white people) can speak languages like Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. I'm black myself, but it just makes me so interested I can't help myself! <3 I hope to lean one of those languages and go visit their country and learn about their culture. Asian culture in general just fascinates me! Especially their respect to their elders ^^

  • oh my uncle speaks chinese too he studied in china and hes black .

  • who is this guy? I saw him on get away tv tonight on the icn network and he was phenomenal

  • i fucked a sheep, i fucked a goat, i took my cock right down it's throat so what? so what? so what, so what so what you boring little fuck

  • I'm black and learning Italian, and soon I would love to try German, French or possibly Japanese :)

  • it should be pretty easy for latin-language-family native speaker (English, Spanish, French etc.) to learn each other language, and there is enough economic incentive to learn each other language

  • i can't believe that he's doing a documentary

  • I'm so proud to be half black! =D

  • lol he must have an easy time ordering from his local chinese restaurant.

  • im nigerian and i speak french, english and german fluently!

  • It isn't because he's black; but because he's not Chinese. I don't like to group all people into one bag, but sometimes they really DON'T think non-Chinese can grasp the language. Even after people hear me have a conversation with another Chinese person in Mandarin, they will still ask:"He speaks Chinese?" And they really expect an answer. One time I said "Yes, I speak Chinese." The lady then responded "Oh, I had to make sure. I didn't know if my ears were hearing right."

  • hahah i like this guy

  • It would be so great if you could add the name of the man in this segment to your video description. His name is Andrew Ballen. He is originally from North Carolina and moved to China in 2001.

  • He is bilingual

  • Nooooodddlllesssssss.

  • To those getting upset at the whole noticing a black man speaking chinese thing, as a black man myself who got his BA in Mandarin Chinese, some people have also been surprised that I speak Chinese, not because they think a black person can't, but simply because finding an African-American interested in (let alone majoring in) a language such as Mandarin is quite rare. It has nothing to do with racism... when some people see a rarity, they are just surprised at it...it's just their response.

  • @ilidionbeurkley

well said, I'm also black and speak 4 languages....English, French, Spanish and Arabic....no big deal

  • @fitzrapid

How did you master 4 languages? I want to teach my 2 year old Mandarin, Spanish, and Hindi. Unfortunately, I can't speak any of them. Do you have any suggestions on how I can go about achieveing this?

  • @tuberlxb2012

my mom is French and Father African American....my father worked in Foreign Affairs so I spent most of my childhood/teens in France, Spain and Jordan.

  • @tuberlxb2012 visit those countries..no amount of learning will make a person speak a language like living in the country. im from nigeria and i speak german and french very well..french, i learnt in school so once in a while i get stuck. but german (which is an even harder language than french) flows so easily as if it is my native language because I lived there for a long time :D hope it helped

  • @fitzrapid ....I WOULD LOVE TO LEARN SEVERAL LANGUAGES. I THINK IT'S AWESOME THAT YOU SPEAK SO MANY

  • @ilidionbeurkley I agress with what you're saying here brother... All asian are like that. It just that how we respond because is rare to see people from america or europe learn asian language, we just happy to see people from different country learning about us and our culture peroid.

  • Is this Chinese Reading Rainbow?

  • @alansmisclass lmao that's what i thought, he remind's me of the reading rainbow guy

  • Nah, tons of white expats can speak decent chinese. Hell my next door neighbor in Shanghai was one, and there were over twenty in my graduating class when I went to highschool in Singapore. Brent, one of my coworkers in NY is also fluent; He didn't have a Chinese name when I met him, so I told him he should be named 變 態. I've visited and lived in over twenty countries, and the ratio of white Chinese speakers to black I've personally come across is about 200 to 1. A black one is truly rare.

  • i watched his show when i was in china, and my relatives were impressed by this -- not because he's black, but because the way he talks sounds quite natural, which is rare for an westerner who speaks chinese. his pronunciation isn't perfect though, i've heard other westerners with much better pronunciation.

  • not really a stereotype...

  • It's not the sole reason he is black that most are surprised. You pull anyone from the continental United States and they speak a language other than English, Spanish, and perhaps French, it's unusual.

  • @0:49-0:52 lol!!!

  • haha pole riding 2:05 i just had to

  • C-C-C-C-Combo Breakers are awesome!

  • You know, I don't think it's so amazing because he's black. It's amazing because he isn't Asian. It doesn't have anything to do with people thinking black people aren't smart enough to learn another language.. It's like in Rush Hour, the thought of hearing Chris Tucker speak Chinese is hilarious. It's not racist at all.

  • he cheated many chinese girls in china

  • The only people who are impressed by this are people who think that black folks are incapable of learning anything, which would make them RACIST. In other news, that soup looks tasty as heck, now I want some ramen.

  • The soup does look good

  • being suprised that a black man can speak eloquently in both english and mandarian ( or cantonese ) is like being suprised that a Pitbull is a therapy dog.

    Its very possible just uncommon

  • its not incredible, just uncommon and refreshing

  • I rather see hak yan than a guai lo speak chinese

  • They look funny hopping around like that LOL

  • thats a hilarious way of making noodles

  • I'm sorry but people who are taking offense to others being pleasantly surprised to see a black american guy speak chinese that well are being a little silly. nobody is being racist. It's just not that common!

  • @foosbeast

It is also uncommon to find a white American who isn't a racist. Due to this fact, it is not an awkward moment once we discover blacks who are fluent and more respectful of other languages than their slave vernacular: English . With that said, black Americans have purposefully butchered American-English as a sign that we (yes, I'm black) do not respect US values, US culture, and/ or US world-views: hence, the pervasive movement "Ebonics"! Assimilation has rightfully failed!

  • @mikedav9O It's not about being racist, I would be equally surprised to see an israeli speaking fluent chinese (and I'm jewish) or an indian person speaking fluent swedish

  • @foosbeast funny u say so...i have a friend from iraq who speaks swedish, german arabic and english..and i am from nigeria and i speak german french and english lol

  • @mikedav9O I'm not American but it always seems to me that black Americans are much more racist against themselves than white Americans are against black Americans. Of course there is always the xtreme exception but I bet over 90% of white Americans aren't racist at all. You have a black PRESIDENT for crying out loud!!!!

  • @Mumsilius

Like you said: you are not American, therefore you do not know the issues going on in this country. A black president does not mean the end of racism in America. White people had no choice but to vote for a black guy (Obama) or risk losing the economic recession to an economic depression with the white republican candidate (McCain). However, while in office, Obama has been the target of new movements in the USA: (1) Assassination attempts (2) Birth'ers, (3) Tea-parters

  • @mikedav9O You're right, I don't know what it's like to be black in America. There's no doubt that the long history of high unequality in America based on the colour of your skin still leaves a big mark today. But don't forget that things are changing INCREDIBLY fast! One only needs to look back 60-70 years to see the difference.

  • @mikedav9O I have a very hard time believing that racism is something that generally keeps people down in the US today, it has much more to do with economic status / unequal allocation of wealth and thus education and so forth, that's still prominent today because of the recent past. That takes time to change but it is changing fast, so the outlook is very postitve and bright. Things are never perfect for anyone, and don't expect them to ever be. That's unrealisitc.

  • yo why this home boy be so touchy and invading that noodle guy's personal space and shit !??! like wtf is going on here 2:00 ??????????? WTF ????????

  • OMFG finally an American who can actually speak it correctly......instead of those racist ignorants that say "Ching Chong Ching chong"

  • @furiouschopstick That's right. Even that stupid idiot redneck Rush Limbaugh can learn a thing or two.

  • @furiouschopstick that IS chinese though..jk jk i hate when ppl say that

  • what kind of noodles are those?

  • ah hes a lefty

  • Don't they have machines to make those noodles?

  • just to watch him eat im hungry

  • wow, this BLACK GUY made a pretty good show! it's the first time i ever see this kind of show hosted by a black guy, and it sounds awesome! did he make more, like a series?

  • I hopes, it's not hurt to his balls. :D

  • Yeah unfortunately there are too many poor examples in the black race that validate the numerous stereotypes about black people; Making it extremely hard for the intelligent and well-rounded people of color like myself.

  • hahaha black guy speak chinese hahahah awesome1!!!!

  • @thomasoeler lol

  • no thanks I brought my own stick. Mother Natures blessing

  • he can understand chinese with a southern accent, it's great

  • send this to ray willam johnson

  • The way he holds the chopsticks are perfect! :D Very impressive!

  • Soooooo...Why is it so weird that a "Black" man can learn a language? We had languages before they were BEAT out of us. Everyone has the cognitive ability to learn a language...including "Blacks".

  • @nubian05girl I think it mostly has to do with the fact that in America, we don't view blacks as the type who'd want to go out and learn a new language to explore a foreign culture. It's not exactly racist, but as a Black/Japanese/White kid who speaks Japanese and some Mandarin, people find it extraordinary for some odd reason. XD

  • @Rey3127 "we don't view blacks as the type who'd want to go out and learn a new language to explore a foreign culture" Officially the dumbest stereotype I've EVER heard. Also, who is "We"?

  • @nubian05girl "We" being the American people. You act as though I'M the one who made that stereotype. It's not like that just popped up in my mind. I've met hundreds of foreigners from Europe, Asia, and even Africa, who were surprised any time they met a black person, born and raised in America, who knew a lot about their culture or were capable of speaking their language. I'm not just saying that out of my ass, that's how it's viewed by A LOT of people. Doesn't mean it's CORRECT.

  • @nubian05girl So don't take it offensively. I'm not trying to say "Blacks" are lesser to any other person, being that I'm part black. But even in my own experience. I'm part Japanese, and speak a good bit of Japanese, and you wouldn't believe how dumbfounded people are when they find that out. But you can't doubt that general society, for whatever reason, doesn't view Black Americans as the culturally exploratory type. It's just the way it is, sadly.

  • Very impressive, both your Chinese and noodle making...nice job brother!

  • that is a gangsterass way to make noodles

  • U GUYS MUST WON'T BELIEVE THAT

BUT THE TRUTH IS THERE ARE SO MANY BLACK PEOPLE IN CHINA

ESPECIALLY GUANGZHOU ...SO THIS IS COMMON NOTHING SPECIAL MAN

  • if you think he is impressive and he is then you will be amazed at laoshu505000. He speaks so many different languages it's unreal...yes and he is black!!!

  • @dacianey3

    That's my idol!!!!

  • @samuraialfredo Yes mines to he is awesome! Truly one of a kind!

  • @dacianey3 why are you like 'yes and his is black!!! wtf does that have to do with anything??

  • @gingmo1 Well everyone likes this video precisely because there's a black person..or someone not Chinese speaking Chinese...in other words he's making a comparison. Catch my drift?

  • amazing!!!!

  • yay another black person speaking chinese!! i am not alone lol jk

  • Do you people have any idea just how bad it feels to see some black guy from new york speak chinese better than a full blooded chinaman like myself?

  • @2morrow1 learn it! As long as your alive and able you can perfect it. Go for it!

  • now ive seen everything.

  • no homo

  • these guys really know how to ride wood

  • What a mad cunt! =) excellent seeing peeps who can speak other languages.

  • yea mandarin are taking over america chinatown nowadays. So learning mandarin is vital since they dont speak english. Most cantonese people already know english.

  • The fact that people are impressed that he speaks chinese because he's black is so fucking ridiculous like wtf .

  • @DurtyDominican AND.... AND!!.... He's from New York remember!!!... :P

  • @DurtyDominican Thats because ppl really believe Blacks incapable of learning anything.

  • @kishasland It's not so much that a black man is speaking a foreign language(especially when it's mandarin chinese!) I 've meet many african and carribbean blacks that who are naturely multi-lingual due to the fact that those parts of the world will have quite a mixture of various languages etc. What's really surprising for me in this video is that this an african american!I've found many african americans to be extremely xenophobic and often hate asians, hispanics as well as blacks from africa.

  • @SLADODET Many African languages are tonal languages, so Chinese comes easy for them.

  • @Japcat21 Doesn't come easy for me. Japanese on the other hand was a breeze.

  • @NelsonStJames What African language do you know?

  • @Japcat21 I am currently becoming acquainted with Egyptian Arabic, not fluent yet, but soon hope to be.

(Soon being a relative term :)

  • @DurtyDominican OFC people are surprised. Name me at least 30 black people that speak Chinese. Not that many people do. I speak fluent Chinese and I'm surprised. The reason why people aren't surprised when Chinese people speak English is there's many of them.

  • @XOSiren18XO

Name 30 white people that can speak Chines...that are 'famous'.

  • @brightlights456X Your point being? Like I said there aren't that many black, white people who are famous that can speak Chinese fluently. I was using a certain ethnicity as an example. I think I made that point OBVIOUS. So I wouldn't be able to list 30 people who are white that can speak Chinese fluent. Duh.

  • @brightlights456X fluently*

  • @XOSiren18XO

    Well...name them.

  • @brightlights456X Idiot. I pointed out that answer already.

  • @XOSiren18XO

Don't let me come over and spank you?

  • Comment removed

  • @DurtyDominican I get the same reaction when I speak Chinese, lol. People get so surprised, but its no different than a Chinese person speaking English. They make it seem like its such a difficult language.

  • @DurtyDominican In theory you're quite correct, but realize that this is the type of Black-American that gets very little exposure on American media. Note his English is impecable as well. If we're not playing sports, or engaged in crime it's like they have no category to place us. Put a character like this in a film and people would scream that it was unrealistic. I know quite a few Blacks including myself that speak several languages. (and yes laoshu is incredible as well!)

  • @DurtyDominican Not just because he's black. I have met other foreigners that speaks Chinese. But it's difficult for someone that is not a native speaker to speak a nearly perfect accent.

  • @DurtyDominican

ahhaha i think chinese react for all foreigners cos its kinda hard. just most tend to be whiteys more

  • @DurtyDominican noone fuckin expects a black guy to be speaking chinese that well

  • @DurtyDominican the poster should have never put "black" in the title of this vid but some would have bring attention to race anyway

  • @DurtyDominican Actually, I'm surprised that anyone can speak Chinese, it seems so complicated! :)

  • @DurtyDominican uh....do you know any other Blacks who speak chinese????

  • @DurtyDominican Wake up, it shows you the view of blacks by the majority. It would be the same (but to a lesser degree) to see a Dominican speaking Chinese.

  • pole riding

  • I am chinese and manderin speaker, but I could understand the chinese guy's accent.

  • @1234bylife becuz u suck

  • awesome

  • Omg, he is great. I'm taking a beginner class in Chinese. I hope I can be as good as him someday.

  • pole riders ^^

  • It always makes me happy to see Americans open their minds to new things

  • COOL. I WOULD LIKED TO HAVE LEARNED CHINESE. BUT THERE ARE DIFFERENT DIALECTS, CORRECT??

  • @BLAKPEARL69 yes, many. majority dialects are Cantonese, Hokkien , and so on.

  • @BLAKPEARL69 you still can. most people who speak a dialect also know Mandarin. its the "standard' Chinese dialect, known as putonghua, because that's what people speak in the capital city. its what most foreigners learn when they study Chinese.

  • @tay2014 thanks :)

  • haha, good chinese, and good noodles. XD

  • hahaha how cool

  • NOODLE COW BOY!

  • this guy really rocks! =D

  • wow hes awesome!

  • his chinese is so good and it takes a black dude to kill the stereotype of chinese as 'foo young chow ching chong mein " lol

but he speaking mandarin and north accent not cantonese so yeah

  • this is good and he's Chinses is superb.
