Fantastic video, great footage, thanks for uploading! This truly is aer lingus in its glory days, and brings back the magical feeling of being at the airport when i was a child. If you get the chance try to have a look at my aer lingus flight simulator video and let me know what you think.
@filtheistfish. You, Sir, are the moron. You haven't clue what you're tlking about. Aer LIngus was a theiving monopoly which regularly over-charged people.
If you don't understand this then you're really not worth the effort..
@Struckgold We should be thankful for the deregulation of the airline industry in 1997 which enables morons like you to travel on Ryanair. Thank you. I shall continue to fly on airlines that provide a humane treatment. You sir, may continue to be treated like an animal on Ryanair.
The old days of "piped" music. I forget the name of the system but it used actual air to move the audio to the seats rather than electronics like today.
@huhuboyd123 they could never fill them to capacity. i think the days of the 4 engine jets are over, most airlines opt for 777,s or 330,s. initally the airlines were reluctant to use anything other than 4 engine jets on transatlantic crossings due to the large distances away from land. but as time and technology progressed they now realise that twin jets are just as reliable and cheaper to run.
IDANCE. Do you mean those American airports with first class security, friendly staff you can depend on and great places to eat quality American food?
You maybe right about Shannon Airport or you stay where you are and eat shit?
My first visit to NYC was with Aer Lingus, back in 1985.I will never forget it.Tony and Geoff, from the airline, were our guides.Stayed at the Omni Centeral on 8th ave.Great memories.

yeahhh, i landed in Shannon air port, and i thouight we had gone back in time like 50 years ago!!! absoluttly no technology and kit was pretty much deserted. I guezss this is extra wierd for us Americans being used to our extravigant airports.
@adjn1973 its a tradition on how pilots always take off, they are both in control of the aircraft, preventing a possible loss of thrust at a critical time (if one had a heart attack for example).
Hey tec thanks for posting the movie. Brought back alot of memories. My father worked in the office where they the pilots are getting there weather info. He worked for Aer lingus all his life. 40 years he was there so i had the privilage of flying to new york many many times. And as much as possible enjoying the upgrade. one of my favourite memories is sigging in the jump seat for landing in New York, . AGAIN THANKS FOR POSTING THIS BROUGHT A SMILE TO MY FACE
Thats my GRANDAD!!!! haha its strange seeing hime in his younger years on TV. He was born in Forxford C.o May and lived in Moybrook Blackrock with my Granny Stephanie Quigley. He flew the pope out of Ireland because the flight from to Boston was a longer haul. well that what he told me anyway!!! What a great man, pilot ,father and grandad he was R.I.P Capt. Aidan Quigley
why would they?? you here at the start of the video the captain telling control that there is 208 souls on board, for an airplane that can hold roughly 400 people it wouldnt make a whole lot of sense to do so, but sir i will tell you something with an attiude like that you could make it as a director of aer lingus, they love throwing money at silly ideas.
great video...its a pity as i assume this aircraft aircraft landed at shannon, but does,nt show..id love to see old shannon footage, not to take away from the video its fantastic archive nostalgia...good man..ps,do you have the return leg of this journey,or does it excist?..

dublin in the seventies via a 707 what a great aircraft the 707 was.
seems so much more graceful than the 747.
still looks classic today.
thank you for the video.

Why do both the Engineer and the F/O have hands on the thrust levers?
adjn1973 2 years ago
that was standard procedure for all the old heavy jets 747/dc10 etc its because the engineer sets the power required for take off
