  • RTE 2 woop woop

  • Fuck u 1969atam. Airbus are probably the best plane in the world. Are you american or European?

  • Those were the days when Aer Lingus had proper planes! The Boeing 747 instead of the shitty old Airbus!

  • its a pity aer lingus has no more 747s

  • @quizmaster9 the should get a380s

  • Fantastic video, great footage, thanks for uploading! This truly is aer lingus in its glory days, and brings back the magical feeling of being at the airport when i was a child. If you get the chance try to have a look at my aer lingus flight simulator video and let me know what you think.

  • The WTC is there in New York. That dates the film in a very sad way.

  • wow. that was brilliant!

  • amazing!

  • Don't eat the potatoes!

  • world trade center 9.30? i think...

  • @filtheistfish. You, Sir, are the moron. You haven't clue what you're tlking about. Aer LIngus was a theiving monopoly which regularly over-charged people.

If you don't understand this then you're really not worth the effort..

  • Feck off, New York, i was there, the Air Lingus staff ar a discrace, Attitude shocking!

  • "We are merely following the routes of the old European immigrant ships" - Great comment, great description and great nostalgia!

  • that patch of grass at the start is now known as terminal 2

  • Statist crap. We should all be thankful to Ryanair for making regular flight in and out of Ireland cost effective for the average man.

  • @Struckgold We should be thankful for the deregulation of the airline industry in 1997 which enables morons like you to travel on Ryanair. Thank you. I shall continue to fly on airlines that provide a humane treatment. You sir, may continue to be treated like an animal on Ryanair.

  • EI-ASJ is now located at Roswell Industrial Air Center New Mexico under a new number 5N-AAA

  • GAY

  • Cool bit of Footage.

  • The old days of "piped" music. I forget the name of the system but it used actual air to move the audio to the seats rather than electronics like today.

  • brilliant vid...Brings me back to when i flew Aer Lingus in the 1970,s...Great Airline then prior to that idiot walsh nearly bankrupting it

  • cool !

  • Great piece of history...

  • when did they change the 747s

  • @helloguy987 the hugh emmegration of the 70s and 80s ended, cut back to a330's now have orders for the a350

pity to see them go, the way thyings are going in ireland they might be back!

  • excellent, love it

  • look how many empty seats there are - this was because of the inflated prices back then when regular flying was still fairly elitist

  • great footage

  • Marvellous.....look how much leg room there was!!!

    Those were the days.

  • Fantastic to see this footage. Thanks for posting. Really enjoyed it.

  • Great video - thanks for posting

  • Great old skool footage of the glory days of relaxed hassle free air travel.

  • absolute boggers flyin the plane haha.. some bogger video actually! haha

  • # lol

  • Thanks you very much for sharing this video with us.

  • very much like this video howevever my first flying experience was on leaving

dublin in the seventies via a 707 what a great aircraft the 707 was.

seems so much more graceful than the 747.

    still looks classic today.

    thank you for the video.

    much enjoyed

  • ahhh RTé :)

  • why did Aer Lingus get rid of its 747 fleet?

  • @huhuboyd123 they could never fill them to capacity. i think the days of the 4 engine jets are over, most airlines opt for 777,s or 330,s. initally the airlines were reluctant to use anything other than 4 engine jets on transatlantic crossings due to the large distances away from land. but as time and technology progressed they now realise that twin jets are just as reliable and cheaper to run.

  • why did they ever get rid of the 747

  • class job

  • Very good movie, brought back many fond memories of the old jumbos.....keep up the good work

  • IDANCE. Do you mean those American airports with first class security, friendly staff you can depend on and great places to eat quality American food?

You maybe right about Shannon Airport or you stay where you are and eat shit?

  • My first visit to NYC was with Aer Lingus, back in 1985.I will never forget it.Tony and Geoff, from the airline, were our guides.Stayed at the Omni Centeral on 8th ave.Great memories.

  • Amazing video! Thanks for posting :)

  • perfect landing

  • Check out Dublin Airport! It's like a ghost town...

  • that is feckin guid from the emereld isle

  • Why do both the Engineer and the F/O have hands on the thrust levers?

  • that was standard procedure for all the old heavy jets 747/dc10 etc its because the engineer sets the power required for take off

  • That's interesting, thanks!

  • @adjn1973 its a tradition on how pilots always take off, they are both in control of the aircraft, preventing a possible loss of thrust at a critical time (if one had a heart attack for example).

  • That nosewheel took some keeping down

  • ...And I'd be a disgrace for having a child out of wedlock!!!!

  • ...And everybody went to mass on Sunday.

  • Ah, the good old days. MOL was just a boy. Little did we know...

  • Technology has changed so much since then...lol at the inflight stereo earphones

  • Excellent, thanks for posting this tecmovie. Can you post all of this documentary, it is a great look at Irish aviation in the seventies.

  • What a fantastic video! Where did this come from?

  • RTE television programme first shown 1975.

  • Hey tec thanks for posting the movie. Brought back alot of memories. My father worked in the office where they the pilots are getting there weather info. He worked for Aer lingus all his life. 40 years he was there so i had the privilage of flying to new york many many times. And as much as possible enjoying the upgrade. one of my favourite memories is sigging in the jump seat for landing in New York, . AGAIN THANKS FOR POSTING THIS BROUGHT A SMILE TO MY FACE

  • how much did it cost to fly to america back in the 70s and 80s? anyone know thanks

  • Dublin has now got a second terminal and also there is a proposal for a 4th runway.

  • Thats my GRANDAD!!!! haha its strange seeing hime in his younger years on TV. He was born in Forxford C.o May and lived in Moybrook Blackrock with my Granny Stephanie Quigley. He flew the pope out of Ireland because the flight from to Boston was a longer haul. well that what he told me anyway!!! What a great man, pilot ,father and grandad he was R.I.P Capt. Aidan Quigley

  • Glad you found this clip.

    Check your inbox for message.

  • @quigley6542 Hi I remember your grandad well . He worked with MY DAD , Capt J.W ( BILL) Pryor R.I.P.

  • @quigley6542 This is very interesting. My grandpa who flew for Aer Lingus, also spoke about Cpt.Quigley a couple of times. What a small world...

  • Very interesting. Thanks you for making it available to view here on Youtube.

  • Ah darn low fare airlines, taking away the service we once had! Thanks for the uplaod, rare footage!

  • i agree totally, aerlingus all the way..we have a sayin that ryanair use trainee pilots lol

  • Brilliant, 5*

  • i think aer lingus should bring back the 747's they should buy 3 or 4 747-400 great video 5/5

  • why would they?? you here at the start of the video the captain telling control that there is 208 souls on board, for an airplane that can hold roughly 400 people it wouldnt make a whole lot of sense to do so, but sir i will tell you something with an attiude like that you could make it as a director of aer lingus, they love throwing money at silly ideas.

  • ha ha ha i think it would just be nice to bring back a few 747 400's anyway a 747-400 holds more that an a330

  • Not possible as Aer Lingus can barely fill their A330's at the moment never mind trying to fill a 747 but we can always dream

  • Excellent footage, do you have any of EI-ASI and EI-BED, pitty they dont have any more 747's, the A330's lack character....

  • character doesnt put money in the bank,

  • Comment removed

  • thats a classy video - thx for uploading!

  • Never new aer lingus had a 747

  • They had 3

  • @tecmovie they dont have them now?Do they?

  • They had them until 1995 when they were replaced by the Airbus A-330.

  • 1994 aer lingus took first delivery to A330 EI-DUB

  • @GarGPS Seen the first one to arrive in Ireland in (I think) 1971.Now THAT was a blast !!!Made our way out from finglas on our bikes.

  • holy crap i want to marry you for posting this. thanks so much

  • Thanks for the offer but my wife might have something to say on the matter !

glad you like the vid, check my channel for other aer lingus stuff.

  • great video...its a pity as i assume this aircraft aircraft landed at shannon, but does,nt show..id love to see old shannon footage, not to take away from the video its fantastic archive nostalgia...good man..ps,do you have the return leg of this journey,or does it excist?..

  • shannon used to only fly to the states. They even used U.S airlines to fly to the states!

  • amazing vid!!!! THX!!!! 5 stars!

  • great video! thank you very much!

  • great stuff tecmovie another great video :)

  • I see this one's in your favorites, thanks.

My interest is primarily CIE buses, with a passing interest in aircraft.

  • The late great Captain Aidan Quigley from the town of Foxford in County Mayo. R.I.P. Excellent clip.

  • How long ago did he pass away? My understanding is that he was the captain who flew Pope John Paul II from Shannon to Boston back in 1979.

  • i want to be a pilot as well for Aer Lingus, and if I had have had Pope John Paul on my plane, I would have been pretty proud
