  • go new zealand music.

  • I heard a snippet of this on Radio 5 on Dotun Adebayo's late night show... I was instantly hooked! This have band have got soul.... (BTW can anyone else hear tinges of The Jam sound too?)

  • this is a killer!

  • this song makes nervous, thats why i like it

  • @JackyWhiite how does a sentence like this get 2 thumbs up?

  • @screenscanner did i get 2 thumbs up :D?

  • Saw them live supporting Foster The People. What a great night.

  • Blinding track, also heard it on Radio 6. Super nostalgic vibe going on here, could be 30-40 years old :D

  • Let me be clear this is a truly fabulous tune- I want the world to hear this tune, however this tune is let down by the truly awful production, this production makes it sounds like listening to someone listening to AM radio station via their mobile phone. I implore UMO to take this fantastic tune to a proper producer to unleash the full potential of this tune.

  • @morganduffy154 Well that kind of sound is the natural aesthetic of a "Lo-fi band" isn't it? That being said, all the instruments are able to be heard, distinguished from one another, the quality of the instruments themselves sound fairly good, and the record is in stereo. I really fail to see how much improvement could be made aside from removing a layer of "fuzz" which thereby negates the feel the band was intentionally going for.

  • @MrKschlott yeah I get the lo-fi thing, but sorry I think that the production on this seriously gets in the way, you end up thinking too much about why it sounds so awful, which then distracts from the fantastic tune. they need to take it to a sound engineer and producer who are not deaf !

  • @MrKschlott That layer of fuzz sounds great to me. Almost gives it a retro feel like something from the 60's. I love this band.

  • @morganduffy154 Heard this today on radio 6, what initially drew me to the track was actually it's production! Each to their own I guess but personally I have never been a fan of big, clean and sterile production in any type of music.

  • @JE5 I came here after hearing it on Radio 6 too and it was totally the lo-fi production which caught my attention. Listened to this track about a dozen times today and it could well be my song of the year, but I'd hate to hear it all big and shiny and bombastic, leave it well alone, sounds perfect as it is, makes me nostalgic in a weird way and I love that.

  • if alex chilton and sheila e. had a love child, this is how they would sound like

  • Coming in at Number Three!

  • WTF????

  • with enough guile, insight, and duct tape all is possible.

  • Who Charted?

  • Jack White and Frank Black had babies who grew up to be UMO! I'm a 52-year-old fart who just heard "How Can You Love Me...?" on Sirius/XM last night and raced in to hear more! In "Nerve Damage", I hear Pixies (plus that way cool ya-ya-ya effect on the guitar!). In "How Can You Love Me" I hear White Stripes. And in all of it, I hear something totally unique - UMO! Ruban Nielsen is pulling the freshest sounds I've heard from a guitar in a long time.

  • I like it! It reminds me of Dave Edmunds' voice :) Fuck I love these guys. Thank you Nylon, once again.

  • 75k? eh... i thought after episode 1 of entourage this vid would get a kick to over 150k... i think this got played for a few seconds during a motion picture i saw earlier this week... won't stop me from seeing them at Le National on september 17th! montreal is the best.

  • I will be seeing them at hopscotch music festival in Raleigh, NC!!

  • Just saw them live in KC. A rare gem in a sea of bullshit. Psychedelic rock is alive and it lives in New Zealand.

  • @Untitled816 Was that with the Smith Westerns at the record bar? I was there! Righteous show!

  • its funny how no one realizes hes from new zealand.

  • @FruitGoLoops yeah but hes been in the US for ages and ages now. I just wanna hug him.

  • who wants to bet this song will end up on some shitty cell phone commercial, i can already see it....sad

  • @yamatty You so called it man! I had to smile even though it's depressingly true...

I remember when I saw a Joy Division song on a commercial, I thought I was going to cry, that was sacred ground violated!
