Why does nobody inform this tune "Bransle des Chevaux" is included in the french renaissance dance treatise "L'Orchesographie" by Thoinot Arbeau (the anagram of his true name Jehan Tabourot) published in Langres, 1589 ? "L'orchésographie" score can be download for free on the website IMSLP (International Music Score Library Project) --> Petrucci Library --> Composers --> A --> Arbeau --< Orchésographie. One can find the tune "Le Bransle des chevaux" in the PDF file at pages 177 & 178 / 210.
this music makes me want to get really drunk and start a bar fight.
a request ... try to play trollhammaren by finntroll on the hurdy gurdy .. and also .. check out a band called eluveitie.. their a weird kinda metal band that has a gurdy in some songs
nice job guys....sm djembe makes it sound so mideastern..like darbukka..and gypsey...keep up the good work. play and show for many to appreciate. best wishes
This doesn't sound like a folk song, it sounds more like a trouver song or something from that period (Middle Ages). Am I right? Or is this in fact a folk tune? If so, I'm amazed at its sophistication. If anyone out there can let me know, I'd appreciate it, thanks!
It`s actually quite easy as long as you focus only on the melody. If you already have some experience with musical instruments it`ll take you like a weekend or so to be able to play some basic tunes.
Gets a little tricky, though, when you start adding the trompette (rhythmic buzzing sound) and you`ll probably need a teacher to show you how to handle it. Or do the same I did and attend a couple of workshops. Good luck! :-)
Bezmara adında bir grup 15.yy sonrası osmanlı müziklerini icra ediyor dünyanın her bi yanında, bi tek türkiyede tanınmıyolar. Ben özellikle ortaçağ dönemiyle ilgileniyorum, ispanyadan 9.yy a ait notalar bulabiliyorum ama iş türkiyeye gelince nota yazımı 17.yy kantemiroğlundan başlıyo ne yazık ki.O zat da macar asıllı bi devşirme. Emin olun gençliğin kazmalığından ibaret bi durum diil.
Awesome! I have been so entertained watchign everyone on youtube play hurdy gurdy, that I'm considering finding one and learning. (A huge undertaking,I'm sure!) If anyone know of one that is selling for less than 1,000.00 US,be sure to let me know:) Great video:)
Real good. How long have you been playing? I just got out of my first course. I'll definatly continue playing. I've got the Phoenix standard for rent now. but I want a Da Vinci, great design! Keep on the good work!
I already told him about your website and gave him the link, so he might contact you soon. Btw. I found your MySpace site and really like your recordings (and sent you an add-request), quite impressive!
Jo die Abraxas werde ich halt solange spielen bis ich mir irgendwann mal eine Leier von Wolfgang Weichselbaumer leisten kann, aber das kann dauern, die sind nicht umsonst die teuersten.
Exactly. My brother also plays a 15th century style hurdy-gurdy by Kurt Reichmann (Frankfurt/Main), which is quite nice, but somewhat more raw (and doesn't have the electronic pick-up system). Abraxas: Gute Wahl ;)
Drehleier hoer ich lieber auf Youtube als live, da sind die unangenehmen Hoehen weggeschnitten :-)

This French tune is commonly played in the UK at barn dances and is called 'The Horses' Brawl'.

Yeah, this is the translation of "Bransle des Chevaux" in french.
There is just one mistake that a lot of people do, that's all the B's, they're all moll in all the piece

Hey, do you guys live in Dublin?
Not many Gurdy players this side of the Irish Sea!
If your ever heading up to the North Coast of Antrim, give me a shout.
You can reach me at my 'Causeway Music' website.

My brother, the hurdy-gurdy player, does live in Dublin. I'll definitely tell him :)

Thanks Lothenon. I would enjoy meeting another Gurdy player.
If I had his contact E-mail address, I would certainly contact him next time I was down in Dublin - probably around Christmas time.
Perhaps, he could send me his address via my website?
