  • Drehleier hoer ich lieber auf Youtube als live, da sind die unangenehmen Hoehen weggeschnitten :-)

  • Why does nobody inform this tune "Bransle des Chevaux" is included in the french renaissance dance treatise "L'Orchesographie" by Thoinot Arbeau (the anagram of his true name Jehan Tabourot) published in Langres, 1589 ? "L'orchésographie" score can be download for free on the website IMSLP (International Music Score Library Project) --> Petrucci Library --> Composers --> A --> Arbeau --< Orchésographie. One can find the tune "Le Bransle des chevaux" in the PDF file at pages 177 & 178 / 210.

  • Wo findet man die Noten?

  • this music makes me want to get really drunk and start a bar fight.

  • very nice

  • great job! like it

  • This French tune is commonly played in the UK at barn dances and is called 'The Horses' Brawl'.

  • Yeah, this is the translation of "Bransle des Chevaux" in french.

There is just one mistake that a lot of people do, that's all the B's, they're all moll in all the piece

  • I like it!!! pretty cool!

  • Thanks for giving me a nice performance to practice my war bransle to:)

  • Wow, for just a little relaxed backyard family gig --- better than some concert hall stuff. THANKS.

  • i really love this tune and your playing

where can i get a hurdy gurdy and how much would it set me back?

  • This doesn't sound like a folk song, it sounds more like a trouver song or something from that period (Middle Ages). Am I right? Or is this in fact a folk tune? If so, I'm amazed at its sophistication. If anyone out there can let me know, I'd appreciate it, thanks!

  • it's a late middle age dance collected by Thoinot Arbeau.

  • Merci pour l'information! C'est tres joli ce branle, je l'aime beaucoup.

  • apuesto q nunca pensaron q fuera a ser mexicano !!!!

un sonido magnifico y una escencia cautivadora

exelente y suban mas videos x favor

  • pues ya habemos dos! jajaja

    buena interpretación del Branle, no???

  • I would love to try playing the didgeridoo along with these guys.

  • C'est tout bonnement énorme :D Merci !!!!

  • must be really hard to play hurdy gurdy...right?????

i ve been playing guitar and mando for a long time...

i really need a hurdy gurdy...

but i think its gonna be really hard for me to learn how to play on my own...

  • It`s actually quite easy as long as you focus only on the melody. If you already have some experience with musical instruments it`ll take you like a weekend or so to be able to play some basic tunes.

Gets a little tricky, though, when you start adding the trompette (rhythmic buzzing sound) and you`ll probably need a teacher to show you how to handle it. Or do the same I did and attend a couple of workshops. Good luck! :-)

  • Wow you guys are great!

  • Awesome guys!

    Keep it up, friends! 5*

  • Outstanding vision of two "lords" of past music.

  • it rocks

  • danced to this a few times, not too bad an attempt, hurdy gurdy good but the bongos are a bit slow on the response

  • I object - they are supertight. Excellent playing!

  • bizim kazma genclik batiya ozenecegine kendi kulturunu sizin yaptiginiz gibi ayakta tutsa. ama nerdeeee!!!

  • Bezmara adında bir grup 15.yy sonrası osmanlı müziklerini icra ediyor dünyanın her bi yanında, bi tek türkiyede tanınmıyolar. Ben özellikle ortaçağ dönemiyle ilgileniyorum, ispanyadan 9.yy a ait notalar bulabiliyorum ama iş türkiyeye gelince nota yazımı 17.yy kantemiroğlundan başlıyo ne yazık ki.O zat da macar asıllı bi devşirme. Emin olun gençliğin kazmalığından ibaret bi durum diil.

  • Awesome! I have been so entertained watchign everyone on youtube play hurdy gurdy, that I'm considering finding one and learning. (A huge undertaking,I'm sure!) If anyone know of one that is selling for less than 1,000.00 US,be sure to let me know:) Great video:)

  • Hehehe, he's actually MY brother and my name is neither Stephan nor Groth.

But don't worry...I feel kinda flattered that there are still people out there watching our nice little unprofessional vid.

    Greets from Dublin

  • hallo lothenon, erkenn ich das richtig? Bist du der Bruder vom Stephan Groth?

  • the dance is beautiful too

    it's the branle du cheval

  • i've danced this song for my school XD very good man that play the strange instrument

  • The tune is the the title, 'bransle des chevaux', in English 'the horse's brawn' or 'the horse's brawl'

  • I <3 the hurdy-gurdy playing, and good drumming too :D

  • He sure Hurdies a mean Gurdy.

  • Awesome! I wish I could play like that

  • just great!!

  • I love it, I've got such good memories rely to this song, I can't believe I've found it on youtube. Thanks you so much for sharing it.

  • what is the name of the tune?

  • Nice trompette technique. Too bad you can't see the hurdy-gurdy better. Who's the maker?

  • Very pleasant piece!

  • Very nice. Most enjoyable. Wish I could play my hurdy gurdy like that. Thanks.

  • Thank you!

  • i love this version!

i played this song too but another version.

i will post it as a video response later ;)

  • Real good. How long have you been playing? I just got out of my first course. I'll definatly continue playing. I've got the Phoenix standard for rent now. but I want a Da Vinci, great design! Keep on the good work!

  • Awesome

  • Hey, do you guys live in Dublin?

Not many Gurdy players this side of the Irish Sea!

If your ever heading up to the North Coast of Antrim, give me a shout.

You can reach me at my 'Causeway Music' website.

  • My brother, the hurdy-gurdy player, does live in Dublin. I'll definitely tell him :)

  • Thanks Lothenon. I would enjoy meeting another Gurdy player.

If I had his contact E-mail address, I would certainly contact him next time I was down in Dublin - probably around Christmas time.

Perhaps, he could send me his address via my website?

  • I already told him about your website and gave him the link, so he might contact you soon. Btw. I found your MySpace site and really like your recordings (and sent you an add-request), quite impressive!

  • Very Nice! Is that a Pheonix Abraxas by Helmut Gotschy?

I ordered one too, and am waiting for it now.

  • Exactly. My brother also plays a 15th century style hurdy-gurdy by Kurt Reichmann (Frankfurt/Main), which is quite nice, but somewhat more raw (and doesn't have the electronic pick-up system). Abraxas: Gute Wahl ;)
