@kravencho890 there are about 100 npc's that can follow you some like lydia that you get for helping a city, some you can just hire, and some that join you if you help them you can also get a dog and if your into magic you can turn dead enemy's into companians or just summon demon's straight from hell to help i like magic cus you can have 4 companians at once that way! :)

in the jarl's headquarters in whiterun there's an unusual gem in his bedroom, if you take it and a guard catches u just say u'll pay the fine and return it, it won't be taken from your inventory because it's a hidden quest, then take the gem to Maul in Riften to get it apprased, i think there are ten gems total hidden to find
