  • I just started smoking a pipe today and wanted to tell you how helpful your video has been. I was having trouble keeping the tobacco burning and i think the method of leveling it right after lighting it will really help. Also, the alternate blooper ending at the end was hilarious. My roommate and I couldn't stop laughing. "That was stupid as shit." Lol thank you for making my day :)

  • WEED all liked ur video. But tobacco kills u. Gowith W33D

  • So it takes 13 min to smoke a pipe

  • When do I stop smoking the pipe?

  • Good info! Thx!

  • Nice video man. Picked up a corncob pipe and a bag of local smoke shop tobacco and i thought I wasted my money till I got your tips on how to load and smoke it. Quit cigs, and figured a tobacco pipe would be a nice relief for that oral fixation when I get the itch.

  • Was having trouble sustaining the light for very long, the tamper tool advice helped a lot!

  • You have a funky Heath Ledger look—slash—Matthew Broderick personality thing going on there.

  • How do you not inhale 0.0

  • What you want to do is "puff" it. You're using your tongue and cheeks to make a suction to draw in the smoke from the pipe without actually opening up the way to your lungs. If you can manage to blow out smoke, and you didn't cough in the process, you've done it right.

  • @kwild97 thank you

  • @TheFrankandGaryShow imagine its like a straw. when your drink pop or something out of a straw you get it into your mouth and then swallow right? its like that. except dont swallow :)

  • @TheFrankandGaryShow its like sucking through a straw without swallowing

  • What's your advice on how to break in/season a new pipe? Cheers

  • Are pipes addicting since you don't inhale? I occasionally smoke cigars and I am not addicted, is it the same with pipes, or is pipe smoking addictive?

  • @rarintoclown no theyre not addictive

  • I knew Heath ledger didn't really die haha just messin man but I just picked up a corncob pipe and a bag of "good stuff" tobacco, which is really a tobacco not Mary Jane

  • @gtownsurfcody LOL Never heard of that brand myself... You sure you're not hinting at something else? ;-)

  • Hello from the UK! you seem like a legend. Really enjoyed your video. Been smoking a pipe for 3 years now...but this is probs the first time I got it right! lol! you said in your video that the first tobacco you showed should be packed slightly differently... care to share? :-) x

  • @ilewyou Thank you very much--I'm happy it helped! That first blend I showed (Cornell & Diehl) had much thicker ribbons of tobacco than the drugstore blends (which are cut much finer). You'd pretty much pack it the same way, but you would want to tear up larger chunks, and while you're packing be sure that it is even. With larger pieces, it is easier to have air cavities, or over pack and make the entire mass airtight. It takes a little more work, but they really are delicious. Hope that helps!

  • thanx .. and its honor to watch your tubes ;) keep on

please tell me ... which tobacco ( very light )can me start to smoke pipe ?

coz i afraid from cancer and bad effect on health -- so tell me which light tobacco can me buy ?

  • @dipls Well, any tobacco can cause cancer (pipes can cause mouth or gum cancer), so there's always a risk. The best to start that are light are the basic blends you can get from drug stores and the bulk bins at local tobacconists. You could also start with premium aromatics from any of the major brands (McClelland, MacBaren, Cornell & Diehl, etc.) Typically, aromatics are lighter and easier to start with then full English or specialty blends.

  • can you smoke the herbal tobacco free, blends out of a pipe? just curious

  • @Radicalrich34 Sure can!

  • Just turning 18 I felt like an idiot youtubing how to smoke a pipe but I'm glad I did, great video! I feel classy! xD

  • @TyGuy8765L There's no need to feel silly when you're learning--it's by not learning and screwing up royally--then you can feel silly! LOL I'm happy it helps!

  • thanks for the video. my buddy got a new pipe and gave me his old one so i figured i would try it. i had no idea how to pack it correctly. lol

  • @jpprice14 Rock on--you're welcome!

  • After more research...what is your favorite brand of pipe? Savinelli? Peterson?

  • @NJMevec2 I don't really have a favorite brand--none of them really stand out to me from the rest.

  • Haha I love the alternate

  • @TheBlakeReviews :-D Sometimes the truth just comes out... LOL

  • nice hair! and nice pipe :)

  • @ghettokhanacademy LOL Thanks!

  • Real men stick tobacco into their nostrils and smoke it.

  • @utopiaopera Interesting...

  • then last bit made not for me

  • i love this video .... coz this tube i will start smoke pipe thanx .

  • @dipls You're very welcome!

  • The alternate intro was hilarious! Made my day.

  • @13Segruts Rock on!

  • thanks dude.

  • @axaygiri You bet!

  • What you got in the keg, bro???

  • @gnatjulio Can't remember--but right now it's an Irish Stout!

  • Greatest video I've ever seen!!!!!!!!!

  • @jwizzledizzle111 LOL thanks!

  • 1. 12:55 ?! LOVE your haircut :D 2. you look like a young gary oldman 3. i love pipes.... my father has like a dozen of pipes and i always stick a pipe in my mouth and act like sherlock holmes :D yeah it is kind of pathetic when you still do it with 20 but i love it...

  • @harajukudecorakawaii Very cool--I love Gary Oldman, so that's a great compliment in my book. Thanks for watching! CHEERS!

  • @terpsichoreankid yeah, gary oldman is just awesome and it was meant as a compliment but it is a pity that you have an other haircut now but i am sure that nobody wants the same haircut forever^^...

  • it is halal for muslims?

  • @MrBandito1995 well i depends on... if you smoke cigarettes you can also smoke pipe... some people say smoking cigarettes is haram because it is unhealthy and some people say it is not...

  • I like your hair

  • @Thardog612 Thanks!

  • Be CLASSY....

  • I love Borkum Riff Cherry tobacco, beautiful aroma

  • @bootsalmighty It does smell nice. A little light in flavor for me--but still pretty good for an easy to find blend.

  • How I smoke pipe :D

  • @edhockett There ya go! It works!

  • Comment removed

  • you are so nice ahahha

  • @munaa93 Thanks!

  • thanks for the explanation on tamping and lighting. so much easier now that i've seen it instead of just reading it.

  • @zdkezios Happy to help! Thanks for watching!

  • Awesome video, really helped! Thanks alot! Could you perhaps do a short video, on how you clean your pibe, how often and what you do after each bowl!

But thank you for the video! :)

  • @Baahirable I'm planning on it! Cheers!

  • That was stupid as shit :)

  • @MrChow11 :-D

  • ¡It´s so good!

I also smoke pipe tobacco, and let me tell you that you smoke so fast.

    ¡Good Smokes!

  • @TheWoodstock60s Thanks!

  • You seem like the nicest hipster. :)

  • @Razarexx LOL Thanks!

  • @terpsichoreankid :) Just a question, what pipe do you have and do you have any recommendations for a first pipe?

  • @Razarexx I have briars, corncobs, and my one meerschaum. I think briar is the best to start with, as they're pretty affordable and look beautiful.

  • @terpsichoreankid Ok thanks, I was thinking of getting a 'Civic' briar pipe for about $25. I have heard they are nice.

  • You are a great man for smoking Prince Albert and what looks like Captain Black

  • @joeaviators In this video, it was Captain Black - the white pouch. Not the best blend in the world obviously, but not too shabby for a cheap drugstore pouch.

  • How long does it usually last? those 3 pinches.

  • @xxxxfatcatxxxx In this particular pipe, my 3 pinch method will typically last about 10-15 minutes or so, depending on how fast I'm puffing.

  • I have been smoking a pipe for about a month now and just want to say that buying nice tobacco is so much different than captain black. I started with captain black and now i cant even think about smoking it it tastes like sawdust. However, it is nice to try a lot of different blends and i am having fun smoking a pipe

  • @whatever93born I definitely recommend nicer, higher quality tobacco. Some folks though want to start off easily with what's nearby. I think Captain Black, though not very flavorful, is a decent cheap start. I'm recommending folks now start out with a McClelland blend--namely one of their premium aromatics to get their feet wet. Trying different blends is all part of the fun of it!

  • Does meerschaum pipes work good?

  • @SgtBradleyJ Mine works beautifully--cool smoke, easy to keep clean, no phantom flavors. Overall a great pipe.

  • @terpsichoreankid Wow. Still can't believe you replied! Thanks. The reason i asked was, a few days ago i bought a really cool hand made miniature meerschaum pipe from Turkey. It's 3,12 inches from lip to the bowl! By the way, what do you think as the best material for a pipe?

  • @SgtBradleyJ Very cool! I think all pipes have their pluses and minuses. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but my favorite seems to still be briar. You just can't beat that beautiful wood grain!

  • Comment removed

  • LIKE A SIR!

  • @SgtBradleyJ LOL

  • Wow you still respond to your comments after this much time. I got a question. I just bought a Sanda Double Filter Pipe and Red river pipe Tobacco Smooth. The shop had no idea what a pipe tool was I i didn't get one. Anyways my question is if you do no inhale then you smoke it for taste like a cigar? So when you need a cigarette after a long days work will a pipe give you the same relief as a cigarette or is it mainly for the taste?

  • @cloud94303 Pipes and cigars have a decent amount of nicotine in them--so if that's what you need at the end of the day, then a pipe or cigar will do the same trick. Rather than inhaling it, you puff it and let the smoke roll around your mouth--nicotine will pass from the vapor into your bloodstream in your mouth rather than in your lungs. If the store didn't know what a pipe tool was... you may want to find another store! Sounds like they don't know the first thing about pipes!

  • @terpsichoreankid Well I been to two smoke shops and they both seemed to be more interested in ummmm other types of smoke. I went to one that had a lot of pipes... but none for smoking tobacco. I guess I will have to go online and buy a pipe tool and some better pipe tobacco.

  • Do you need special tobacco, or can you use tobacco that you would roll ciggaretes?

  • @everyoneissaying Use pipe tobacco--not cigarette tobacco!

  • I love to smoke in a pipe... just some hits...

  • you look pretty good, but maybe get a new hair cut and utd look less fruity haha, anyway my question is i have a pipe and i mostly been smoking rolling tobaco cuz buying pipe tabacoo is quite a distance i dont like making (im currently in a forieghn country studying) and is their a real difrence?? probably im guessing but what are the difrences?

  • @jellymarble I do have a new haircut--it was just getting long in this video.

  • hey thanks friend

  • @HondaRacer248 No problem!

  • You are just *absolutely* adorable.

  • @itsfloe Thank you! :-D

  • @patruick94 lol

  • Dude, you're a boss. I'm going to go try this! Thanks!

  • @Autowarfare Thank you!

  • Do you prefer pipes with filters or without filters? Also, have you ever smoked from a hookah?

  • @JacobGravemann Definitely without--with filters I find inhibit a lot of the experience. They're also unnecessary if the pipe is packed correctly. I have smoked hookah before--love it!

  • You are amazing my friend!

  • @TheAwsomeDonet Thanks!

  • i smoke the white one :DD

  • @ahighbalckguy Rock on!

  • Great video man. The alternate beginning was funny as hell.

  • @Colteraptor Thanks! LOL

  • the old men i used to kno at the farm wouldnt pussy around, they have a pipe some baccy and their lighter in their front pocket, scoop the tobacco up with the pipe pack it with their thumb and light it, no bull shit

  • @REDNECKCABLETV That would do the trick! LOL

  • what do you think about using or not using filters?

  • @sdjsdjsdj1 I avoid them--no need really if it is packed correctly. Also, I've found it inhibits the flavor pretty dramatically, and then funks it up when the filter is dirty.

  • @terpsichoreankid Thanks!!! your video was a huge help by the way!

  • How addictive is smoking a pipe?

  • @M3iscool I would say not as addictive as cigarettes, but if you have other addictions, nicotine is a very addictive drug--so it could be very addictive if you're already prone. I'm not a doctor and don't really know, so take my comment with a grain of salt. I think though that they're far less addictive than cigarettes.

  • @terpsichoreankid Okay. Thank you for answering my question! :)

  • @M3iscool You bet!

  • This video was great! I'm merely a novice when it comes to smoking pibes, but this video helped me a lot. I am, however, having some problems getting my pibe lit and the tobacco burning. I'm surprised you could do it in just one try. Any tips on getting it lit? Thanks.

  • @LateNiteGibberish Just be sure you're packing it correctly and that there aren't any air leaks in the stem of your pipe. It could also be your blend--so try a different tobacco blend to see if that might help. Some are harder to keep lit that others. I hope that helps!

  • This video helped me out big time, Thank you very much! Also the ending made me laugh and choke hahah

  • @steliosspartan :-) Awesome! I'm happy to help!

  • I heard that bad smelling tobacco usually tastes good. Is this true?

  • @htagohc323 Not necessarily--I've found that pretty much all good aromatics (which smell good) often taste good too. However it is true--I have some really rank blends (a few English) that taste amazing--very deep and flavorful, but if you didn't know it, you'd think they were just ribboned dung. So I'd have to agree with you to a degree.

  • Thanks for the video! I have been collecting pipes sience I was like 17 but have never actually tried to smaoke one. For my 20th birthday I decided to buy some cherry tobacco and thats when i realized I had no idea how to pack/light my pipe(s)! thanks again for this very informative video!

  • @BLACKandREDtape LOL Very cool--happy to help! Did you enjoy the first experience?

  • nice video, nice tip on the "char line" now i kinda get it and my tobacco stays lit a bit longer

  • @Fpockets Glad to help!

  • Great Video, Thanks!

  • @hondafart No problem!

  • I was kind of dozing the 1st time I watched your video and your right, had I been paying more attention to what you said, I would have phrased it differently or perhaps said nothing, my apologies. Yes, Dr Grabow makes a decent pre-seasoned pipe for what little you pay for them, but if your a heavy smoker like I am they soar rather quickly. If I were to give anyone advice on my experience as a regular pipe smoker, it would be don't smoke at all you'll thank yourself later.

  • @myNifty350 Very good advice! LOL

  • @myNifty350 Very good advice! LOL

  • Man you're awesome. Thanks for the tips, i've just stared with my pipe and started on a nice long barrel pipe and with Vanilla tobacco. Cheers man

  • @danielmcallan Thank you very much! :-)

  • If anyone watching this is planning on smoking pipes, you need to invest in several pipes. I'v smoked a pipe for 20 years and can tell you that it's best to have a pipe for each day of the week. Cool air entering a lit pipe creates moisture, pipes need time to dry out or they become rank. depending on the type of material a pipe is made of can affect this more than others, stay away from cheap drugstore pipes like "Dr Grabow" in the video and other cheap brands for the best experience.

  • @myNifty350 Thanks for your comment. I don't suggest people buy $400 pipes to start out with, especially if they have never tasted the flavor of pipe smoke. I also don't suggest someone starting out with 7 pipes--if they don't like the experience, its a pretty significant waste of money at that point. I say start small and within your budget (which mine was low, hence the Dr Grabow pipe) which BTW is one of the best pipes I own.

  • ta bacano mas es uma beca gay

  • @KikixPT Sorry, but I have no idea what you're saying!

  • Awesome video man. If Im ever gonna smoke I want to smoke a pipe like yours. Looks fun and seems like it would taste like, well idk but it looks classie

  • @215rant Rock on!

  • very good and helpful video!

  • @Wierdoinc Thanks!

  • Johnny Depp?

  • @jaiyaboy I wish!

  • @terpsichoreankid you kinda look like him :L man yaw sucha babe

  • @jaiyaboy :-D

  • You remind me of the Scientist from Scary Movie 1!

  • @pacmandqwfdewfrgregr LOL--I don't remember that one--been way too long since I've seen it.

  • i usually use the pouch tobacco for rolling beacuse in finland we have our own "brands" that make pipe tobacco

  • @FinDudeMBaD Rock on!

  • Thanks for your reply! Any idea were U.K based viewers get there tobacco? Thanks again!

  • @S25LUKE No clue! LOL Any UK viewers have any tips here?

  • Sweet vid:) I have some questions though. I live in uk,do we buy the tobacco that we use to make roll up cigarettes? And also what's the difference between pipe and cigarette smoking? Any benefits or anything? Thanks!

  • @S25LUKE Thanks! No--the roll-your-own tobacco is cigarette tobacco and wouldn't be good in or for a pipe. Pipe tobacco is a completely different cut, is processed differently, and has pretty different composition (additives, moisture, etc.). You don't inhale pipe tobacco, but you do inhale cigarette smoke. Pipes have a lower risk of cancer because it burns cooler and you don't inhale it. And, in my opinion, pipe tobacco smells WAY better! LOL

  • @terpsichoreankid ah, thanks for the info.

  • Fantastic video!

I'm looking into getting a pipe, but is the tobacco in the pouch the same as the rolling tobacco you buy for cigarettes?

    Cheers.

  • @chemicalguns Thanks! No--pipe tobacco is completely different from cigarette tobacco (even the roll-your-own type). They're different cuts and are processed differently and have different characteristics (additives, moisture content, etc.)

  • happy smoking to you to good video

  • @myelite100 Thanks! Cheers!

  • Is that you Willy Wonka ?

  • @Caveman5657 Nope!

  • DUDE you look like Willy Wonka omg you're awesome :D

  • @777Jamez777 LOL

  • Thank you :) nice tutorial, I'm new to pipes, this the best 'how to smoke pipe' video I found on youtube!

Just a question, how do you know when the "session" is over?

  • @ricsantos88 It will keep going out very quickly, and the draws will be very hot, dry, and kind of ashy. It's funky--so you'll know when you're there!

  • @ricsantos88 And thank you for the very kind words about my video! I'm flattered you hold it in such high regard!

  • @terpsichoreankid

When you have lit the tobacco and the very first embers appear, wouldn't the tamper choke those small embers? I am really a newbie at this, but it's so cozy haha!

  • @HumanPietBox It does choke them, but it compacts the ash layer and the subsequent relight creates an even burning ember across the entire top of the bowl, rather than just small flecks here and there. Give it a shot--it'll work wonders! :-)

  • you sir just got a subscribe...
