It's a shame Resorts will build something SO beautiful, but cut corners to cost people their lives like the November 14th explosion at this resort. My family will never recover from the "beauty" of this resort. Both of them, aged 41 and 9 (father and son) were taken well before their time. My heart goes out to all the other families, in both Canada and Mexico, who lost their loved ones on Nov. 14 here. From what I've heard the bartendender and the concierge who also died were very kind men
The picture of the lobby made me remember the feel of walking in there. The first thing I said was "Mom, are you sure we can afford this?" Then a guy walked by with a cart of limeaid and I said it looked good, so she told me to take one. So I just kinda looked at her funny and asked if you can do that :D I wanna go back soooo bad :(
Thanks for posting. I have about 220 pictures and videos to go through myself and will likely put up a vid. (I got to play some blues with the local musicians in the main hall, that was a treat!)
I am a singer and harmonica player in a rockabilly blues band called "the Rattlers" in Ottawa Canada. I played harmonica on Mustang Sally ans Sweet Home Chicago with the band. It was a hoot!
You guys have captured the essence of this resort very well. We were there last week, Dec. 6th to the 13th. Our service was alright though. I was making conversation with the staff and calling them by name. They wear name tags. It makes them feel good and they provide more personal service. Gratuities are part of the all-inclusive but I still would reward exceptional service. These people make about $55.00/wk in a 6 day week. We loved it and would go back tomorrow.
Having recently returned from this resort a week ago, I much more appreciate all the footage!!! I highly enjoyed all the activites such as parasailing, jetskying, kayaking, snorkling. True, the walk to the beach is 10 minutes, but it is worth it! I thought staff was friendly and drinks were strong:) With the complex being so large anyone can find many things to do at any given time. Thanks for the upload, this is a good supplement to all the pictures I took.
I can't wait to go there again next year!!!It was the best holidays ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I've spent 10 days with my son and husband there and it was too short!!!
I did a week and I thought that would be LOTS of time. Turns out it goes by waaaay faster than you expect. Theres what, 9 pools there, and I never got to go in any :P Or do any scuba, which I was looking forward to
We spent 2 weeks at the Riviera Princess from 18th May to 1st Jun 2008, this video capures the hotel really well. We had deluxe junior suite and had breakfast and lunch at Tortuga restaurant by the beach as quieter than main buffets. The resort is north of Playa Del Carmen at Punta Beta. After seeing Playacar area when picking up for tours of Tulum, Coba and Chichen Itza, I am glad we chose the Princess. The beach is excellent and its away from the car traffic of Playacar. Fabulous holiday.
This is an excellent place to vacation I highly recommend a villa suite!! Is it a huge place?? No but if you are handicapped or elderly I would not recommend it!! Kuddos!!
I will be going to Sunset in June. Do you know where this resort is situated in relation to the more established resorts? I guess it is because this resort is so new, but I cannot find a map with its location. Thanks for your time. :)
It is the next resort, for now, south of Secrets. I saw more construction as I looked north up the beach. Short drive into Playa. $13.00 cab ride. Free shuttle at hotel.
Hi Dave&Pam - this is a great little video to remember the trip! I will watch it again when I'm missing the beach! Hope all is well - stay in touch. Leslie&Dan :)
The place is beautiful. Be ready for A LOT OF WALKING! The complex is HUGE! A little to large for my taste, but a great experience. Have fun........get out and see some things.
Man, I went here for a week, and it was awesome!!

davewhodavedunn you are a noob its beuteful i go there the food is exelent!!!
predetator8 2 years ago
The food is NOT excellent, it was plain, poor variety, and im not even a picky eater.
For the amount of places to eat, everything was the same at all the buffet's. Juding on your spelling, you obviously would think it is good lol
davewhodavedunn 2 years ago
Don't go there. It looks beautiful, and it is, but looks are not everything. The staff is rude, the food horrible, and it's too big.
We had a 25 min walk to the lobby from our room, had nothing but problem's with our room (a/c, sewage smell, not being cleaned)
Impossible to book the A La carte's as you need to walk to the lobby to do so and wait in a huge line.
Better places to go for less money, I will never go back!

What do you play? I did alot of blues in the past, then a pop band, and now I'm in a country band.

Are the Riviera and Sunset properties side by side? I see both resorts listed separately in the travel mags but the pictures look the same.
