I regret that I've never felt sad at Johnathon Larson's death, and I think it's because of the aliveness of his legacy. I wish he were still alive, he was clearly a great man.
I <3 jonathan larson... without him the world of musical theatre weeps since they have to put up with things like rock of ages and the disney dynasty. :( we need him here, but he's writing several brilliant masterpiece musicals in heaven. always & 4eva! no day but today... how right he was... :'( :D
cried when i heard he died before his show got gigantic popular! love this vid. NOTE: THE NEXT PART OF MY COMMENT IS NOT IN ANY WAY SPAM! I just want to reccomend a GREAT book written by Anthony Rapp...it tells you from his time BEFORE the show, to how he is bisexual, and everything else about him. it is called "Without you" by Anthony Rapp.
I like this version a lot better than the version in the Tick, tick... Boom! Soundtrack; it lines up better with the original song and the jokes at the beginning actually are in the right order and make sense.
the day he died, i was born. ever since i saw rent (when i was 3) i havent had a birthday party. i feel its disrespectful. i mourn instead and watch rent over and over and over and over and over.
Jonathan was a genius. He created something that has changes our view of the world in the short time he had. His life define's Rent's motto: no day but today.
its not Rent's motto but that was who Jonathan was Rent is Jonathan ..so if anything Rent defines who Jonathan was from all i have heard and read its the other way around
Anthony Rapp often tells a story about how when asked what he did for a living jonathan responded by saying "I'm the future of musical theater"... and if only he had lived a few more years he really would have been... RIP
the song you are describing is 30 / 90 from tick tick boom :)
it was originally intended by Larson to be used in a one man show called Suburbia but was adapted into Tick Tick Boom after his death from what i know, but this could be incorrect...
You have correct information in the wrong order! Hahaha! It is from 30/90, which was originally in BoHo Days (Same as this song), which was then adapted into Tick Tick Boom, which is about the week leading upto Jonathan's 30th Birthday and the workshop for the first musical he wrote (before Boho days and Rent) which is called Superbia!
I feel I should note that Jonathan Larson's one man show went through several different titles It was first called Boho Days, then 30/90 (you didn't mention this), and finally Tick, Tick, Boom!
I knew that this song was based on Sunday from Sunday in the Park with George, but I never noticed until someone pointed out to me that its chord structure is exactly the opposite of Sondheim's piece.
Also, does anyone else get annoyed that the Off-Broadway Cast Recording mixed around the one liners in the opening of this song?
:'( What a beautiful person Jonathan was, I just wished he never died.. :( everytime I watch this i cry because you see Jonathan happy like he always was. Life may have not been the best..but Jonathan was always happy. But I take that back, Jonathan's not dead, his spirit is somewhere smiling down at us, I can see he's happy and proud that his work has touched so many lives. RIP Jonathan Larson ♥♥♥
This ONE man Changed the view of the world and I respect him for all he's done with the short time he had on earth....It's amazing I <3 Jonathan Larson.
Jonathan Larson was an amazing person, I can't believe all the things he wrote, and all the lyrics, I just can say Thank you Jonathan for making such a good musical who has inspired me a lot.
yh -- the way they just fit together perfectly like in will i, it's just beautiful xx sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sad that he died just as he was breaking through
Jonathan was such a talented person. What has always made me so sad was how hard he worked...and worked and worked...for years in NY trying to break through. Slaving at that crappy diner to scratch by. Performing also as we see him here..brilliantly..to scant crowds. And then when fortune smiled and he finally got noticed for the supreme talent that he was, he was taken from us. I made a trip to that diner to remember him. Thank you Jonathan.
It blows my mind that RENT and Tick Tick Boom came from one man. I know everyone says it but its true. He was a genious and we would be lucky to have anyone like him again
johnathan larson was such an amazing guy i would give anything to meet him why did we have to lose such an inspiring, amzing guy =( RIP johnathan larson

wow its amazing that someone has a video of him performing. i love jonathan larson. to me, he is not dead, and he will never die. thank you jonathan larson.
there is a cd/dvd you can get called Jonathan sings Larson ... i have not bought it yet but it has on the DVD of Jonathan singing with four video tracks from his November 25, 1991 performance at New York's Village Gate.
Wow, I always get chills watching this. I love his smile... Thank you Jonathan Larson. I hope you won't be forgotten even as the show leaves Broadway. I know I won't forget you.
Jonathan Larson made such a difference in the face of music and my life. It's a shame he never gotten to see RENT. But I know Jonathan is smiling up in heaven. =D
ok you posted the comment I am replying to over a year ago but I feel I must correct it none the less. Johnathan Larson died of an Aortic Aneurysm. the two are similar but not the same a heart attack is caused by a build up of plaque in the arteries, an aneurysm is caused by weakening of the artery wall itself.
Jonathan would only be in his 40's if he was alive, why do the good die young? ITS NOT FAIR! Jonathan, I love this song that you wrote and we all miss you dearly, RENT and Tick, Tick.... BOOM will remind us of you.......... R.I.P.
Wow.. I wish I could've known him. To have met and known the person responsible for RENT would've been amazing. He's such a genius, it's a shame that his life was cut short. I am so grateful that he was able to do RENT. It's such an amazing show! Wish I could've seen this show.

Tick, Tick, Boom! = Musical orgasm. This musical is so good, and it's a shame that it doesn't get the same ammount of attention that Rent got.

I wonder why he had to die at such a young age. He's my hero and he in a way saved my life.
He's not just a MEMORY....He's a LEGEND.
RIP. <3333
