  • Sunday from Sunday...George? Why? Thats such a weird parody.

  • @ThePhantom135 mm.. methinks it's more like an homage.

  • @ThePhantom135 It's because Sondheim was Jon's biggest influence.

  • This is so much more brilliant now that I realize it's sort of a parody of Sunday in the Park with George.

  • He's a genius, ears and all. May his power, presence, and passion rest in peace.

  • he is a pure geinus

  • OMG, I get how this is the man who wrote rent. Gotta love him. <3

  • Gotta love him. :D

  • I find this rather self indulgent..Sorry!

  • Thank you, Jonathan Larson, for inspiring me more than words can say. RIP <3

  • this mans work inspires me :)

  • Genius.

  • Love? Yes. Yes I do

  • i see 5 trolls who disliked this masterpiece.

  • Brilliant! Thanks SO much for uploading!

  • The amount of love I have for this man is unfathomable, he's such an inspiration may he rest in peace <3

  • i bet tat one guy laughing in the audience was the only person in the audience that nos sunday in the park... lols

  • I regret that I've never felt sad at Johnathon Larson's death, and I think it's because of the aliveness of his legacy. I wish he were still alive, he was clearly a great man.

    And I think he's a great singer!

  • Bless him always. The good ones always leave too early

  • @disneyrini23 it's what i call godscalling.

  • Hello to the first person I'm going to meet when I die :) <3

He was and is so brilliant.

    Thank you, Jonathan Larson.

  • If you watch the special features and commentary of rent (it's around five hours long) you understand these stories.

  • 5 people don't know talent

  • this song is amazing. he was so phenomenal. i want to cry every time i see him or watch rent or listen to the soundtrack. it's a masterpiece.

  • thank you johnathon larson

    xox

    r.i.p.

  • "Thank you Jonathan Larson"

  • I <3 jonathan larson... without him the world of musical theatre weeps since they have to put up with things like rock of ages and the disney dynasty. :( we need him here, but he's writing several brilliant masterpiece musicals in heaven. always & 4eva! no day but today... how right he was... :'( :D

  • cried when i heard he died before his show got gigantic popular! love this vid. NOTE: THE NEXT PART OF MY COMMENT IS NOT IN ANY WAY SPAM! I just want to reccomend a GREAT book written by Anthony Rapp...it tells you from his time BEFORE the show, to how he is bisexual, and everything else about him. it is called "Without you" by Anthony Rapp.

  • I've read that book.

    It really is amazing.

And I cried too. Jonathan was truly an amazing person.

  • i read that book... over and over and over and over. it's amazing.

  • @YAOIFANGIRL0131 I'm reading it right now its fantastic!

  • @YAOIFANGIRL0131 yeah that book is really really good. I cried. Like pretty much everyone else did haha. :)

  • May he rest in peace.

  • he's such a fantastic performer and composer

and that one guy laughing loudly in the audience makes me laugh haha

  • I like this version a lot better than the version in the Tick, tick... Boom! Soundtrack; it lines up better with the original song and the jokes at the beginning actually are in the right order and make sense.

  • i cry whenever i hear his voice.

i love that man. with all of my heart and soul.

    like, you dont even understand.

the day he died, i was born. ever since i saw rent (when i was 3) i havent had a birthday party. i feel its disrespectful. i mourn instead and watch rent over and over and over and over and over.

    i love this man.

  • i never said i was.

  • Jonathan was a genius. He created something that has changes our view of the world in the short time he had. His life define's Rent's motto: no day but today.

Thank you for everything, Jonathan Larson.

  • its not Rent's motto but that was who Jonathan was Rent is Jonathan ..so if anything Rent defines who Jonathan was from all i have heard and read its the other way around

  • he was a wonderful person, i'm sure he's smiling up there.

    thanks jonathan!

  • I wish I could've had a chance to meet Jonathan. I think he and I would've gotten along well.

  • BLOODY LEGEND!

  • My mom was born on Jonathan Larson's twentieth birthday.

  • YAY!

  • I love this! :D

  • Anthony Rapp often tells a story about how when asked what he did for a living jonathan responded by saying "I'm the future of musical theater"... and if only he had lived a few more years he really would have been... RIP

  • omg im amazed someone actualy found the footage of this performance nd put it on here.

does anyone know what the song is called

i saw it in his documentary

    where he starts singing

"they're signing happy birthday , you just want to lay down and cry"

  • the song you are describing is 30 / 90 from tick tick boom :)

it was originally intended by Larson to be used in a one man show called Suburbia but was adapted into Tick Tick Boom after his death from what i know, but this could be incorrect...

  • You have correct information in the wrong order! Hahaha! It is from 30/90, which was originally in BoHo Days (Same as this song), which was then adapted into Tick Tick Boom, which is about the week leading upto Jonathan's 30th Birthday and the workshop for the first musical he wrote (before Boho days and Rent) which is called Superbia!

  • thank you! :)

    this video is so wonderful...

  • I feel I should note that Jonathan Larson's one man show went through several different titles It was first called Boho Days, then 30/90 (you didn't mention this), and finally Tick, Tick, Boom!

  • Hey, is the music for Superbia anywhere?

  • Simply amazing!

  • OMG you dont just make amazing musicals you could sing aswell. Thank you Jonathan Larson you are an insperation to millions Rent is just amazing RIP

  • I knew that this song was based on Sunday from Sunday in the Park with George, but I never noticed until someone pointed out to me that its chord structure is exactly the opposite of Sondheim's piece.

Also, does anyone else get annoyed that the Off-Broadway Cast Recording mixed around the one liners in the opening of this song?

  • Thank you, Jonathan Larson.

  • Aw...we miss u Jonanthan!

He was truly a talented person. THANK YOU JON!

  • i started crying when i saw him...

    RIP Jonathan!!!

  • Jonathan was such a talented person. What has always made me so sad was how hard he worked...and worked and worked...for years in NY trying to break through. Slaving at that crappy diner to scratch by. Performing also as we see him here..brilliantly..to scant crowds. And then when fortune smiled and he finally got noticed for the supreme talent that he was, he was taken from us. I made a trip to that diner to remember him. Thank you Jonathan.

    Lovely song.

    Lovely man.

Rest in eternal peace, Jonathan Larson.

  • Jonathan is was a great composer, he had such a way with music! And it wasn't a heart attack, it was an aortic aneursim

  • I miss him

He died to early of a hear attack, before Rent went on Broadway.

  • ok you posted the comment I am replying to over a year ago but I feel I must correct it none the less. Johnathan Larson died of an Aortic Aneurysm. the two are similar but not the same a heart attack is caused by a build up of plaque in the arteries, an aneurysm is caused by weakening of the artery wall itself.

  • look how much he's enjoying himself! that's how we should all remember him.

  • Jonathan would only be in his 40's if he was alive, why do the good die young? ITS NOT FAIR! Jonathan, I love this song that you wrote and we all miss you dearly, RENT and Tick, Tick.... BOOM will remind us of you.......... R.I.P.

  • I've seen this video hundreds of times and I've never heard that mans annoying laugh, and today I read your comment and now I can't stop hearing it! It's so idiotic sounding.

  • genius :[ absolute genius.

    such a good show!

  • This was inspired by Stephen Sondheim's Sunday. right? Brilliant stuff!

  • Not so much "inspired by" - more an "homage to" - Sondheim taught him for a while, and this was his way of saluting The Master!

Done with grace and wit, I'm sure you'll agree.

  • I cry when I watch this.

If only I could've met this legend.

His music truly speaks for itself.

    JaLa<33333

  • I want to share something with you. I am from Argentina but I lived in Bolivia 12 years. There we made Rent, and I cant express you how the music of this man change all our lifes. Its unbelieveble how, like many other art genious, didnt saw the explendor of his work, like Van goh or others. This really make me feel so bad that you cant even imagine.

Thank you Jonathan for all the music and art.

  • Jonathan Larson...a Hero!

  • Aww. I've seen pictures of Jonathan, and I've heard audio of him singing, but I've never seen him in action. This is a fantastic clip and many thanks to the poster.

  • I personally think Tick..Tick..Boom! is better than Rent by yards and yards. I guess some of the humour of this song might be lost if you were unfamiliar of where it comes from, but most of it isn't. Brilliant.

  • Thank you Jonathan Larson. Rest in peace.

  • Perfection incarnate.

  • Jonathan's shout out to Sondheim couldn't be more awesome :-)

  • Jonathan Larson=love. God rest his soul. Thanks, Jonathan, for being such an inspiration to everyone.<33

  • Tick, Tick, Boom! = Musical orgasm. This musical is so good, and it's a shame that it doesn't get the same ammount of attention that Rent got.

  • I wonder why he had to die at such a young age. He's my hero and he in a way saved my life.

    He's not just a MEMORY....He's a LEGEND.

    RIP. <3333

  • i dont know if its buried in the 120 comments that this video has but where can i get the rest of this recording?
