Yes, pretty much the whole point of PSO & now PSU is the Online play, luckily for people that won't play it online. PSU also offers a much better storyline and a more in depth feel of the game, it'll be awesome both offline & online.

Phantasy Star always focuses on the avatar you control, it does not take everyone into focus. the others not being in-focus of the viewscreen doesn't mean they're being excluded in anyway. And in this video's instance, the "other guy" also happens to be an NPC character named Leogini... who's there to assist the player's character during missions.

Yes, the monthly fee will most likely be from $9 to $15 a month, PSO has always been $9 a month.
