  • @ GECP4256 thanks for the correction i just noticed i put that and i feel a bit midly retarded lol. but yes NW and Sou Forever

  • i wish i could see her but my first locomotive is the 261

  • Great stuff man

  • OMG nice catch i really wished i wouldnt have missed that. those were some good days. SOUTHERN RAILWAY 611 forever!!!

  • @tftrainman

We all wish that, Thanks for looking.

  • @tftrainman 611's N&W, not southern. :P

  • I give to a fund to get 1218 and 611 running again. 1218 would be the most powerful operating steam locomotive in the world if it were restored.

  • I know Wick Moorman is huge railfan, If it wasn't for the rest of high brass in Norfolk and Atlanta who sees steam excursions as a traffic concern and liability, I'm sure the steam program would be a mainstay of NS. Thank God for Mr. Link and Mr. Claytor. Their love and dedication to the railroad had helped save the 611 and 1218 for all to see and for the few of us fornunate to see them in action.

  • Thanks for looking. The one time I saw her in steam I got these videos. An unforgetable experience.

  • Your Welcome

  • I used to live by the north bound main line of Southern Railway (now Norfolk Southern) just about a mile of the old Spartanburg, S.C. train station. 611 would sometimes roar past there. There was no mistaking it's sound.

  • Thanks for looking. I have recieve many such comments.

  • 6 yrs old, 22years ago, I saw the mighty 611 in all its glory at the famed Chattanooga railyard. Great memories, watched this vid with my daughter. Thanks much.

  • I have recieved many comments like yours. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • it can be easily taken out of storage and restored money is the problem

  • Money always it.

  • I bet if someone would steupup and offer to do it, NS would let them

  • i am gald people came to see the steam engines they are living breathing engines that will be in are hearts for a long time

  • i was 14 when i last saw the great norfolk and western 611 came through the steepest grade at saluda for the final time i wish her sister 1218 came to saluda grade with 611 it would been a great site to see two sisters on the famous grade

  • Thanks for the comment. If they ever get on that grade again, I will be there with my camera.

  • Rest in Peace 611!

  • AMEN

  • Don't treat it like it's dead, it's not scrapped remember.

  • My favorite steam engine of all time the J 611!!!

    5***** and favorite!

  • Dang! I was like in 2nd grade when this vid was shot. Hard core! 5 stars!

  • I was 21!

  • Dang! If I was in 2nd grade that made me what like 9 or something.

  • More like 7 I think.

  • I was born in 1983 so I would have been 9 in 1992.

  • yah I was 17 and still in school I had a english techer from Bluefield Wv where the N&W ran she told me of remembering when these pulled the trains in regular service she saw them as a girl I got to class the day of NS killing the steam program and she met me with a sad look look and showed me the Bluefield paper talking about the NS killing the steam program a truelly sad day I never got the honer of rideing this magnificent engine

  • 611 pulled the Powhattan Arrow and the Pocahota.

  • I know I would have loved to have been around in those days and seen those great trains running

  • Wonderful.

    Thank you!

  • It's a shame this kind of thing just doesn't happen anymore.

  • Another great movie, Mr DeMille. Thanks, Mark T.

  • Another Amazing Video Lou. I would love to see 611 return to service, at least once.

  • Awesome video!
