What a beautiful voice. Timing is the best I've heard, EVER. Thank you for posting this cleaned up version. It's sad that such a voice has passed. He has such conviction and pose. Wonderful, thank you. Chipfryer.
E' la solita storia del pastore' Il povero ragazzo voleva raccontarla, e s'addormi. C'è nel sonno l'oblio. Come l'invidio! Anch'io vorrei dormir cosi, nel sonno almeno l'oblio trovar! La pace sot cercando io vò: vorrei poter tutto scordar. Ma ogni sforzo è vano... Davanti ho sempre di lei il dolce sembiante! La pace tolta è sempre a me... Perché degg'io tanto penar? Lei!... sempre mi paria at cor! Fatale vision, mi lascia! mi fai tanto male! Ahimè!
WTF??!!! "The only last tenor after Caruso".!?!?!?!?!?
Very interesting. I had never listened to a singer who could do this with the voice! It is wonderful how he adapted it to the role. Listen to how he got his dark timbre hidden!!! This has knocked me out. Really stunning. All Federico's purity. Wonderful.
@LordMgls I don't really care about his comparison to Caruso about which you are so sensitive, (:P) but this really is stunning. I like it very much, and it is really remarkable how a singer changes the voice for a particular piece, as you didn't fail to mention. Few could do this, and all they were the greatest singers.
Stunning !! This is the most subdued and gentle phrasing i've ever heard MDM sing, He sang it so mezzo-voce i thought it was Di-Stefano at times. To bad he didn't take the B Natural and let his huge voice out. Great Performance but i would have to say the Other Mario beat him out this time.
Agreed on all points, I'm a bit surprised, MDM didn't usually shy away from a high note. Especially not in his prime which this certainly sounds to be.

An aria about regret, anger, and love's delicate sensibilities all expressed with
emotional power, nuanced drama, mutable colorations and direct simplicity!
One can always expect the unexpected from the magnificent MDM! Thank
you Enzo for posting this historic jewel and to Anry for kindly sharing and
adding to the Lamento playlist on my channel! Bravo!

It's so sad there's such a bunch of people who choose to steep themselves in hideousness.

not his prime. recorded 1963. he proves critics wrong once again

@ShawDAMAN This recording is definitely after his car accident. If you listen closely, he tried to lighten his voice and also squashed some vowels.

@rickyelmeio
