@godofimagination A good 7.62x39 load is about as powerful as a 30-30. It's more than sufficient to bring a deer down. The last one I shot was around 200 yards with my old Norinco SKS, it went straight down with a well placed shot.

Is a 7.62x39 round underpowerd for a deer? I was made to wound a 185lbs man not kill a deer, or do you just aim for the heart,head, and so on?

My friend said he blew off the front two legs of a deer with a 30-06,so its over powerd. Or should I just get a mosin nagant 91/30?

I plan on using these rifles for hunting and in case of SHTF to protect my self and family.

we can hunt with a semiauto as long as the gun wont hold more than 5 rounds in the mag i have a 5 round mag in my sks and its a great little deer round out to about 200 yards

I gave it a thumbs up bcs of all the dislikes for being an SKS, but it would have been much better if you filmed a shot. SKS is a good rifle for deer as is 7.62x39. It's like a 30-30 ballisticaly. Some ppl hunt with 223 so I don't know why all the haters onthe SKS. It;s more accurate than a crappy ak variant. I love AKs and they are accurate in quality models. Use what you have got. I have an SKS paratrooper amongst many others, bought it bcs it was cheap and fun.

@bbrown4261 not normally...... the footage is usually a bit better though.  Ive seen lots of youtube vids of deer hunting and most dont have actual kill shots. I'd be weary of posting a kill shot too what with all the cops that patrol youtube from their chairs.......so hard to be 100% sure everything you post is 100% legal all the time. A few shots of deer in the vid are common but kill shots not so much.

here in canada using a full metal jacket for hunting is illegal but you can use 7.62 rounds that are made for hunting!
