Our rotten corrupt government makes it imposible for good men like Fitzgerald to stay in office. This man should be persuaded to run again. Our rotten corrupt media should protect this kind of leader and help root out corruption, but they are part of the problem. Mr. Fitzgerald was definitely the only politician in IL. that was honest, and maybe one of the few in congress. Can he be coerced into running for office again? Maybe POTUS? Our country needs him

Im a life long democrat who was stunned at the honesty of Peter Fitzgerald. Just stunned.

This guy got in office totally believing the GOP were upright, honest, public servants. He soon found out things weren't right.

He spoke the truth - he said the his own party were "pigs at the trough". Why? Cause he saw it on the inside. For that-- he was quickly shoved out the door.

Bring this guy back. We all need honesty in government like his.

I totally agree. Unfortuantely, what the Illinois Republican party does is threaten to run a candidate against an elected official if they don't vote their way.

SB600 passed in the Senate 44-13. Every one of the 13 were Republicans doing what they were told to do.

Hi John, Yes SB600 passed in the Senate. It now moves to the House where Tom Cross and Skip Saviano are already doing everything they can to block it,.

In 2005, it passed unanimously in the Senate but was shot down in the Senate, so this is far from over.

And yes, Andy McKenna was the Illinois Republican candidate that was going to run against Fitzgerald. Judy Barr Topinka was the Republican Chairman at the time.

Jim Edgar, who is a clean politician, is a close ally of Judy Baar Topinka, so I am not sure if she is a "dirty" as you think. I think Topinka should run for governor again.
