The original is a classic and Englund was incredible. However, I thought the remake was well done and very creepy. Hayley's Freddy is a despicable pedophile. That made him so much more of a disgusting villian in my mind. I personally didn't prefer to see a child killer become an anti-hero in subsequent sequels to the original. When the audience cheers for the villian, for me, it is a sign of a bad horror movie.

@clkgrt If you want to talk about the "original" than you should read up on Freddy. Not only was it HEAVILY hinted at in the original series that he was a child molester, but Wes Craven actually created Freddy AS a child molester. The ONLY reason he wasn't openly displayed as such is because there was a child molester causing a panic while the movie was being planned, and he knew it could hurt the film's reception.
You can never truly replace Englund as Freddy. I mean, he OWNS the character. But out of so many possible replacement actors, Jackie Earle Haley seemed one of the few actually capable of pulling off the role, and he is.

Saw the remake and in my opinion as a fan of the series, I do believe Jackie has brought something new and fresh to the series, and he even has his own sick humor and witticisms ("Who are you?" "Your nightmare.") All in all, I can respect that Englund has been the only Freddy, and I am not saying that we needed a change - change isn't always good. I am also not saying that remake was all that good (Tina's death = predictable). All I am saying is this: Haley was good, is good, and I support him.
Englund is probably a better freddy just because he was the original freddy- but that does not mean haley will do a sucky job, he'll prolly do a good job, just not as good as englund. haley is an AMAZING actor and he did an excellent job as Rorschach .

I think a lot of fans just don't like Jackie Earle Haley playing as Freddy, mainly because they're so used to Robert Englund playing the character. Think about it. Robert's been playing him for years, and everyone loves him. Now, with this remake and a different actor, naturally, fans are gonna try to find an excuse to not like him playing Freddy. Matter of fact, you could replace Haley with any other actor, and it wouldn't make a shred of difference, people will still prefer Englund.

there needs to be a petition go around to say we want englund back...not saying haley is a bad actor....he aint freddy...noone is other than englund....u make them till englund cant do it anymore or doesnt want to...then thats it...no remakes...this aint Jason or Michael where you can get a big sumbitch and throw a mask on him...theres actually acting involved...i hated the new face and the voice was terrible..hope this movie tanks big time

Saw the remake and in my opinion as a fan of the series, I do believe Jackie has brought something new and fresh to the series, and he even has his own sick humor and witticisms ("Who are you?" "Your nightmare.") All in all, I can respect that Englund has been the only Freddy, and I am not saying that we needed a change - change isn't always good. I am also not saying that remake was all that good (Tina's death = predictable). All I am saying is this: Haley was good, is good, and I support him.

Englund is probably a better freddy just because he was the original freddy- but that does not mean haley will do a sucky job, he'll prolly do a good job, just not as good as englund. haley is an AMAZING actor and he did an excellent job as Rorschach .

@acdcfreak06 Well, what you said made sense, but i think maybe they are trying to re-invent the freddy krueger movies, theyre taking the comedy-horror Freddy (which Robert act) and trying to make a less goffier and more scary picture(actually i think thats one of the reasons Robert wont be in that movie, he would remind to much of the old Freddy). Some people are exited about the new Freddy other prefer the old one and thats why this debate is happening. But good point MJ Freddy lol XD ! Peace.

I know that Robert can't play Freddy all the time but I think he can play him at least 2 more time than this fool they got now. This Jackie is 53 years old and Robert played Freddy at 30. The studio should have gotten a mid 30's actor so he can return for plenty of sequels, not some old guy. If so, RETURN ROBERT ENGLUND then.

No, Jackie is not awsome. He is clearly not the character for this role. He is 53 years old. If yu are goingto get some old guy then get ROBERT to RETURN. Robert was young when he played Freddy. So why didn't they get a mid 30's actor to play Freddy, so he can return for plenty of sequel. Face it, If Nightmare on elm st has 2 sequel comming, Jackie will be 60 years old. He sounds like shit talking as Freddy. And he winds like a lil BITCH.
