that's because it was. Bill Lawrence apparently came up with the idea at the last minute as a way to guarantee jobs for some of the crew in the midst of the Great Recession and ABC went along because Scrubs pulls down a TON of syndication $. they were forced to basically create a new show because some of the actors (like Neil and Christa) had already committed to other shows for the just-completed TV season.
