ive just discovered eric, he is fantastic, im certainly going to be trying this one! ive tried many from these videos and they all work, me and my dobe are going to have so much fun learning all this, just tring to find one about stubborness and getting her to come downstairs without her just looking at me and thinking 'yeah, right'!!!!
So ...I'm in the process of doing this ......the ham covered bagel has been there for an hour now....hold on.......it just worked....Thanks for the tip Eric
Why not just teach the "leave it command"? Why set the dog up for failure?
Im sorry but I feel this type of training is a lazy mans way to do it.
In my home my dogs are taught to leave it with things on the floor.Counter-surfing is a MAN-MADE problem, that can and IS easily fixed buy NOT leaving food up on the counters for them to practice the behavior.
If one has a skittesh dog to begin with, who is to say that the dog will never go by counter again? Dogs learn by association.
Look at your last sentence again. Dogs learn by association. So when the dog grabs something from the counter and something bad happens. It associates grabbing things from the counter with bad things.

I am a little disappointed in your use of punishment. I had seen an earlier video where you said you were a positive reinforcement trainer, and explained the problems with using punishment. This video, two of the videos for loose leash walking, and the jumping video all use negative reinforcement/punishment.
i would really call this behavior modification. the video shows corrections of a behavior that needed to be modified, in order for the dog to live happily in a human household.
tell u what... u let ur dog eat ur chrismas turkey and let the rest of us learn from this very intelligent man and his EFFECTIVE tips and tuition...yes?
is it working for my dog? how long day will i train it?

Does the dog stop steeling things at all or just stop stelling bagels in the kitchen?

I don't see much of anything wrong with this method, as long as the dog doesn't assosiate the crash with you, and if the dog isn't getting hurt. =)

That's very effective. I'm glad you aren't one of those trainers that is completely against punishment.

usually you always take the new dog for a checkup when you first get it.

what if that bowl hits its head?
Slydogges 3 years ago 2
I use a lightweight Tupperware bowl. Tupperware won't hurt the dog if it lands on your dog's head.

LOL! wow that was hilarious but smart! I'm gonna use this technique. My lab loves to explore on the counter quite often.
