why do Asian carriers fly huge long haul planes on such short routes?

@imanseven Because they have high demand. This aircraft is likely in a "D" configuration, with way more seats than "normal" 777's. This is because it makes more sense for them to send out one 777, and not three 737's, to meet demands.
