Well, in fact this one is doomed to fail. Why? Well, first of all a running '1' is not an option for an AC motor as you will get a 2/3 DC component which will ruin your switches and/or motor. A BLDC needs symmetry in bridge signals, also the high-Z state and PWM unless you want it to run as a stepper motor (needs BEMF feedback in order for the PWM to self-adjust for the torque and load) - the drive should look not like 100-010-001, but like 1Z0-10Z-Z01-0Z1-01Z-Z10.
вот мы русские что за народ сломался сд-ром или винт. и начинаем какой то хренью страдать, а все ух ты она все таки крутиться, просто не могу понять куда их применить че крутить?...может кто подскажет?
@MYSTERdima ..
The simplest among all circuits to drive a hard drive motor. Though the control, speed, stability may not be precise with this simple circuit, it can be used for simple appications. Great work !!
Great work dude! Thanks for sharing your circuit! I was thinking of playing aroud with some HDD motors I have laying around and I had no clue of how to drive them...
hello, excuse my English but I want to know how often operates at a medium speed and as you know the order of the motor cables, thank you very much for the schematic and the video
Did the transistors burn out at the end of the video? I ordered both some BC337/327 and some BD237/238 transistors, but it looks like from what you said, that the 337/327 can't handle the current. Is there too much back EMF? Thanks for the video and circuit diagram.
@codyxcaution How is he a dumb ass? It's a PWM (Pulse-width modulation) oscillator, the 555 timer, connected to a 4017 decade counter with 3 push pull outputs to form a driver and power driver output (the decade counter im assuming is to switch one of the pairs of outputs on and off to form a crude hall-effect) ... how does that make him a dumbass?
I followed your schematic exactly, but I have some questions: what value does the resistors have, does the wiring of the motor count (and if it does, what is what) and did you used 12 volts, because my microcontrollers get really hot even with 3 volts. Immagine what would happen when using 12 !
What is that 4017? Doesn't it have some letters before? I found something with 14 pins like in your diagram, but the functions aren't the same. Exactly what did you use?
Hi. have a nice day. I like this project. I use Lm555 general pulse. 4017 is counter. I don't known dirve motor part. I try use 3 trasisitor B-out of 4017, E- GND. But It don't run.
I am an electronics fan too, so I am going to try it. Thanks for showing this. Just a question: can that spin fast......very fast (like in the hard drive)?
looks like the 555 generates a pulse train that increments the 4017 divide by ten counter, in turn driving the 6 transistors to turn the stepper motor.
it's funnu how everyone can spin the hdd motors at low speeds, but when it comes to higher speeds the motor starts rocking and rolling...

please i beg you to put some kind of video fast motion tutorial on how to build the driver please! if you can do so
ill be so gratefullll !!!!!!!!
i have many dam engines but they just dont want to work, it seems they need some -+ alternator to them plus a gradual voltage feed or something,
please show us a tutorial on how to buid the driver,

You should try putting these onto roller blades/skates and seeing if it works.

my hdd motor has 4 wires. Does yours only have 3? With 4 you can just use a uln2003 to drive it (to replace the triple half H bridges).
I made that driver with a uC (12f675 and TIP122 and TIP127 which work a bit better then those tiny things) but for a brushless cd-rom motor.

can you change the rotation? Can you make it spin to the right?

it would spin faster with two even blades
by reducing vibration

Proof of concept videos demonstrate that some things can be done.
And usually whats in the videos are hardly ever ideal.
