the established canon is officially being set aside as an alternate reality for the simple fact that it involves our original Spock going back through time, and in part having changed everything.

Who knows.... maybe the timeline could still have a chance to be restored in a sequel.....

No, this is a way to bring the franchise back. I mean, for all we know this alternate reality could encounter the Bord, even the Jem Hadar. They can take this story anywhere.

Exactly, that is why wish in the sequel the use a far more terrifying version of the borg as an the villain. However; some posting seem to suggest that Khan maybe in the next film, but who knows we have to wait until 2011 to find out.

Production wise the star trek movies blow stargate out of the water, but i like the story and the characters and the setting of stargate way better.

Deep Space Nine was better then the stargate series. I mean, stargate is good, but stargate doesnt come close to having the amount of fans Star Trek ever had, and will continue to have thanks to this new story.

I like stargate cause its set in the here and now. It has the air force, and the marines, not some space cadet school which has been cliched as a result of it being in virtually every sci fi film or series. I can identify with Stargate more because of that

You have no idea why star trek was made, dont you? Look at the original series, they had a main characters who were Japaness, a Russian, and a black women. It was to give people hope for a better future. While stargate just shows war. Besides, the Asguard, Wraith, Humans, or Ori have nothing that can take on a Borg Cube. Your Resistence is Futile.

I am a die-hard fan of Star Trek, or at least I was. Watching this trailer gives me hope that the franchise is not dead. Although they have changed everything but the costunes of the crew, they have done a remarkable job or recreating the feeling of a star trek movie. Up till now, the best movie was the second wrath of Khan and I see a lot of that emotion in that in this trailer. They have changed everything, but change can make something better.
