  • will try that out next time ;)

  • good workout but a little risky, my advice, do it with light weights until you can manage to control it with your hands.

  • NO way I'll even try that...thats an accident waitin to happen -.-

  • SHHHHHHHH!!!!!

  • these work outs burn

  • how many sets ?

  • WhT if it slips?!

  • If that weight slips out of your hand and crashes to the center of your sternum, it can cause ventricular fibrillation.

And you are braindead within 5 minutes, if there is nobody smart enough to use a defibrilator on you.

  • awesome exercise, doing it as my third of four exercises and it gives me a nice pump and really hits the middle of my chest! will have it in my routine for a long time! thank you!

  • thanks heaps for this exercise scott its really helped hit that inner part of my chest i have had most difficulty developing

  • die gayboy

  • love that one scott

  • I need to try this.

  • im naming my kid scott because of you

  • This is such a good exercise, I even introduced it to a couple others in the gym. Thanks!

  • I tried it and LOVED IT!

Part of my chest routine from now on!

    Thank Scott!

  • I tried this in my last chest workout freakin awesome.. Love it got so sexy pump in chest and felt awesome.. Thanks Scott. I have learnt lots of things from you.

  • You can see that it really works the inner chest at the end when all his blood rushes to the area after the set. hahaha nice im so doing this

  • awsome ,will try it ,also can tell me safe excerise for declined chest press ,as i hear it damges eye or something

  • ill have to try this one

  • Intersting, really looks like it gets that last little squeeze better than flies. I'll give this a try today.

  • Scott you really are as ingenious as a monkey...whatever that means.

  • scott, when did you start doing samurai training?

  • tried and it works like hell!!!

  • Comment removed

  • How the fuck is this not safe? It's 45lbs between two arms, if you can't handle 20lbs an arm give up.

  • @rockemsockemredneck calm down big guy be nice

  • I did this last night and WOW what a burn I loved it! The slipping can be addressed with gloves or and tighter press between your hands. If there is lack of control then reduce the weight.

I rather enjoyed the change and was the added "umph" I needed to get that last burning pump! Thank you ! Keep it up!

  • @ArbitraryRandomMe

I tried it last night too and I did 3 sets of 10 reps. I felt a little burn but not substantial. How many reps did you do?

  • @phillawer Try super setting it with Dumbbell flies :)

  • @ArbitraryRandomMe

I tried it last night too and I did 3 sets of 10 reps. I felt a little burn but not substantial. How many reps did you do?

  • I do this with two dumbbells pressed together and I feel it a lot in the center of my chest and triceps. This seems kinda dangerous

  • OMG that's just retarded Scott..

Just like your "One-Arm barbell benchpress"

If you want to work your chest one at the time, why the fuck not just do it with one dumbbell??

  • @KiimmTube haha his one-arm benchpress was the stupidest fkin thing i've ever seen

  • @KiimmTube somthing tells me scott is alot bigger then you so im gonna take his advice over your judgmental negative opinion. oh and by the way unless your using 30 pounds how about you try benching one dumb bell without falling of the bench

  • @Michkins1

then again - in what universe would I bench press using only one dumbbell at the time??! That's just stupid.

I have a lot of respect for Scott, and have used some of his videos a lot - but this "Plate Press" and "One arm barbell bench press" = retarded. And if you can't see it - well then I'm sorry to say that you are stupid too.

  • @KiimmTube its not retarded look at scott, obviously it works. i tried both of those exercises and they do the job. the danger is just the fun part suck it up pussy and try somthing differnt in life. If you do what you've always done then you will get what you've always had.

  • watch 0:29 - 0:37 silently...theres no way scott doesnt seem like a retard

  • I'd suggest using straps. Shoot the strap in the middle whole and get the other side with your other hand. Safer.

  • to anyone sayin this is unsafe, its true there is a bit of risk. just like ANY other work out. know your limits, have a spotter and be careful. and im sorry but if your small enough that dropping a 45lbs weight 4 inches on your chest is going to hurt you then 45 is too much for you anyways.

  • don't try this at home guys..........lol unless you want that 45 lbs to slip and hit your chest. there is a reason why this ridiculous invented called exercise is not in any book. hi have some good exercise here and lots of good advise but this one is not it

  • Nice video Scott, I did this workout but it kept slipping a little bit but I still managed to do 5 sets. We'll see if I feel the burn tomorrow.

  • good exersize but your limited to 45 pounds, what do u do after that

  • this is an amazing new exercise i've never seen before. Did it this morning and I'm already feeling it. Great way to add a new move

  • The biggest plate in a gym is 45 pounds ( in general ) like a bench bar, I understand that you guys Bench the bar without weight with a spotter because 45 pounds is too dangerous and it coulb broke your sternum? ROFL thumbs up so i can brag to my friend that i'm hot on youtube

  • @Inshnale yeah i'm sure a 3 inch drop of 45 pounds is gonna send u to a hospital lol and that is if ur retarded enough to let it slip all the way out of ur hands to begin with

  • @xXJeReMiAhXx99 Squat can be dangerous bench can be dangerous, everything can send you to hospital, and the fact is that you can use other weight to do this exercise if you arent strong yet to use 45pounds

  • @Inshnale no no man squat with 400 pounds is much safer then holding 45 pounds above ur chest lmao what the hell are people thinking when they post that?

  • Any move is dangerous people... Some of the crazy bodyweight moves I do, if done wrong, could lead me to the hospital, but that's why you have to know your own limits.

  • How about plate pressing two 25lbs plates together, guaranteed to do the exercize right if you dont want them to fall.

  • @Indivijoel1 step it up! 2 45 plates togethere better squeeze dem plates like ur life depends on it

  • I think this exercise would be really effective but you really should have a constant spotter for this one. I definitely see higher risk with this one but I also see the potential of the exercise as far as effectiveness.

  • Hey Scott, I have found this is easier to do with a kettle ball.

  • @uptopar84 it isn't the same if you use a kettle bell. squeezing the plate in a clap position targets different muscle groups.

  • @theliveon3d if you use dumbell its basically a dumbbell press! The plate is so u can really squeeze your mid chest!

  • May be we should use dumb bells instead of plate !

  • can i do this with a dumbbell instead? if so, how would i grip it?

  • at the end i always think he just said more boguss stuff comming soon :P

  • no real grip on here yeah save excercise man good job... NOT

  • get a spotter if u guys wanna try this guys, n id advise not going too heavy.

Or use a DB instead of a plate

  • How tall is Scott?

  • @JRSanchez93 5'10

  • @aznboionfya Thanks.

  • So why would you want to do a plate press? Wouldn't it be easier to just use a dumbbell?

  • @MohaaVeteran because its all about your two hands pressing onto the plate to keep it there. it targets the inner chest more

  • @MohaaVeteran because the exercise is focused on the middle when you press your hands together with the plate in between them it forces you to use that same form constantly or else the plate drops its good but should be done with a spotter or light weigth the chest can take a 45 weigth but its just gona hurt a lot

  • your hands slip too easily

  • You can also do this exercise (to avoid the plate falling on your sternum) with your back against the wall and elbows parallel to the wall. As you're doing this workout, try to contract your abdominals so that you don't lose form. Keep your back straight and against the wall throughout the exercise! :)

  • @CMLoveLust that would focus the strain more on you tri then anything.

  • this is unsafe for the most part but actually if put your thumbs through the barbell loop hole (feels awkward) it should be less unsafe on the chest.

  • Haha wth is this.. he might as well be doing neck raises too.. please dont drop the weight guys

  • do you even try anymore

  • this is the dumbest and one of the most dangerous exercises ever, not good bro

  • very tempting, but I will pass. I do not want a freaky accident that will jeopardize my family stability. I cannot afford a mistake. Very dangerous if you do not have a spotter.

  • awsm

  • FUCKKKKK!!!!! haha

  • Boom. Totally digging it. Going to try it out, with. 10 though instead of that 45. :[

  • Why is he yelling at us? I'm so afraid!!!!

  • @toychristopher hahahaha!!! true!!

  • I think this exercise is best done with a spotter or wearing gloves, it won't matter if it is heavy or light weight but I see how it can get dangerous if the palms gets sweaty and the thing slips.

  • To all those NOOBS who leave negative comments -

should'nt you be masturbating or something ?

  • @69schil What does that have to do with anything?

  • @MokonaSoccerPlayer22 l.o.l - granted...

  • Not to insult you Scott! But wouldnt it work just as well for your inner chest if you just did close-grip bench press, but made sure to keep your elbows out, so it doesnt all go into your triceps?

  • @Fruddle123 that would destroy your tendons after a while

  • brb going to hospital after breaking my chest

  • Where is that sweet brazillian girl scott do tell

  • notice how it works uperp chest too people

  • get some new shorts

  • i wonder how many people have knocked themselves out, by doing the exercise to fast and hitting the plate on the solar plexus ^^

  • i just use a dumbell instead, much safer, feel the burn

  • @MrDaemonKane No, the whole point of this exercise if to PUSH your hands together. That is what will make you feel the exercise in the middle of your chest my friend :)

  • @ScottHermanFitness True Story definitely burns more with the plate.

  • @ScottHermanFitness Scott, you da man!! That's such a great idea for an exercise; I would have never thought of that. By the way, can you do a video on the plate press, but on an incline/decline bench?

  • @ScottHermanFitness I hope that when you do this you're warmed up and your muscles are not tired cause if that 45#'er falls on you, like you wrote "That is what will make you feel the exercise in the middle of your chest" LOL. BE SAFE

  • @MrDaemonKane just get a spotter and you will be fine

  • Hey guys, if you're concerned about safety with this exercise just use superglue. No more broken noses

  • not safe at all.

  • Is it weird that whenever I train my chest from doing exercises like bench press, I feel that I'm pushing and using my lat muscle rather than my pecs. Is this normal?

  • @SoulOne94 Using to much weight. Think about your chest doing the work.

  • @SoulOne94 i think u r not doing it correctly..

  • @SoulOne94 use your mind and focus about contracting/squeezing your chest as you push up.

  • @SoulOne94 I'm gonna guess you're not arching your back which is focusing all the tension on your back and traps. Try arching your back just enough so that you'd be able to slide your hand under and tuck your shoulder blades/lats in

  • Omg Scott! You can't train your inner chest...

  • @richardx10 Indeed, but you can use put more stress on parts of your chest. Like incline works more of your upper chest.

  • Kepp your Bawston accent bra! Its funny and more entertaining

  • schott is bad, he don't take more masse, more definition, he is casual

  • @Glenn870 and you are mr. universe or what?

  • @johnnyamok No just a little IFBB pro

  • i'm th brother of roby

  • Scott, you need to smile more in your videos :) You look so intense when you push out.

  • Jeez Scott your gettin HUGE!!!

  • i farted

  • good one

  • Not the best exercise to do, that plate slips and you gonna snap all yo shit up!

  • until the plate slips and hits you HARD!

  • Do you have to Mane that noise

  • Hey scott hope you read this, you should really do a video on over coming plateau's. That's my current problem, and i am sure a lot of your viewers have gone through the same problems. I've been the same weight for 3-4 weeks and i need help over coming it.

  • Can you hook your thumbs through the hole in the center?

  • @Dirtybird284 It gives you a better grip/hold, but the exercise is meant so you push your hands together, working the inner chest muscles. If you somehow find a way to get your thumbs hooked in the holes, but keeping the hands pressed in a similar matter, do try it. Though, if the weight slips, you might injure more than your chest.

  • damn, proceed with caution. this is not safe. i think it maybe safer with a dumbell.

  • FOR SAFETY DO THIS: have a spotter lightly grip those handle gaps on the weight to make sure they have some control as they stand and assist. and get a weight heavy for you so you can do negatives with them and that will simply put more mass on your mid chest and keep you safe as your spotter will be there to make sure it doesnt slip with their hands in the gaps

  • this comment has been hacked each like is worth 0 likes

  • good thing about that exercise is that it also works forearms :)

  • I'd be scared if it feel on me :/

  • @power8298 you mad bro?

  • dam if someone drop them weights. is gg jaw and chin.

  • Normally, I wouldn't comment negatively on Scott's huge and diverse library of exercises, but this one is clearly not safe. Too many people will either use too high a weight or do it to exhaustion or just simply slip up. Only need one failure with a 20kg/45lb plate directly onto your sternum and you'll be off to the hospital needing chest X-rays to survey just how much damage you've caused. Please find some other safer chest exercise from Scott's otherwise cool library of "stuff to do" :)

  • @utubesqueeze It's a plate press though. Scott is already using the highest amount (45 lbs) that most gyms have

  • @utubesqueeze

What you can do is to put another plate on your chest, so the pressure is not on one point when you fail. Also, in some gyms 45 pound plates are the biggest (in mine for example ^^), so people can't really go heavier than this....=)

  • @Irgendeinidiot That's not a bad idea. It wasn't suggested in the video though, so ... In addition, if you're having to go more and more lengths to protect yourself from an exercise, you may as well do another exercise that does the same thing but is intrinsically safe(r), e.g. in this case, swiss ball or medicine ball pushups which could be weighted, declining, elevated or any other fancy variation etc.

  • @utubesqueeze that's why you use spotter

  • @utubesqueeze only if you're a pussy

  • @utubesqueeze - this was a very helpful comment.

  • @utubesqueeze I agree. Love your videos Scott, but I believe this exercise is too advance. For beginners I think holding one dumbbell with palm facing up would be safer. Would be nice to have your inputs on this Scott and maybe do a vid on it?

  • @utubesqueeze Indeed, you're just another one of his fag followers ;p

  • @magesown14 Calling people fags? Must be nice being stuck forever in a junior high school mentality. The women must just love you. You're so manly talking like that. Geez.

  • @utubesqueeze get a spotter

  • @utubesqueeze

While Scott can handle it, most people would most likely use a spotter to make sure no one gets hurt.

  • @utubesqueeze Not all of Scott's subscribers are beginners. Not to toot my own horn but I'd like to consider myself a somewhat advanced lifter and I'm actually glad Scott's posting something advanced (for the first time in a while to be honest) and I look forward to trying this

  • @utubesqueeze You are insane, whats unsafe about this? How is this any less safe than bench pressing or squatting. Of course while at the gym you should exercise a certain level of caution. But ALL exercises present a certain level of risk when done incorrectly ... using too much weight, bad form...etc. Thats why he mentions having a spotter hand you the weight. People aren't stupid, and there is no reason to try and discourage anyone from trying this exercise.

  • @utubesqueeze Quite a number of exercises are not 'safe' and could lead to a trip to the hospital if something were to go wrong. If you take the necessary steps to do it safely and within your limits (and with a spot) I don't see why the exercise can't become part of a safe workout.

I had a go at it the other day and I thought it was fantastic. Provided you use your head when training, I would definately recommend you try it out.

  • @utubesqueeze brotha, I understand your concern, but anything can be dangerous if done wrong... benching is dangerous without a spotter, but we still do it every week. I teach controlled movements and to work at your own pace, if you follow these guideline.. you will be just fine.

  • @utubesqueeze not only is this exercise meant to be done lightly(ie not 1 rep with 200 pounds) but also the hands are placed AT THE CENTER of the weight that means that it will have to slip atleast 10 inches before the weight could actually fall on u and by then it would be just a couple inches from your chest like man i'm all for safe exercising but saying this is not safe is just pathetic i'd be much more nervous when squating and deadlifting over 300 pounds than i ever would with this

  • oh this is awesome thanks !

  • push ups are also great for working the inner chest :D

  • this does not look that safe lol. but enjoy the videos.

  • Saw you in the Men's Health Australia/New Zealand edition!!!!

  • I still like the chest press machine better =)

  • just keep progressing with DB press or benching, chest shape will come with the size, no need for exercises like these.... maybe as a finisher, but thats all

  • Great...!

  • nice workout!!!! I will need someone spot me.

  • love it scott thnx alot.

  • tnks ::b (Aka "Like it")

  • this one is crazy .. but dangerous .. but nice !

  • Ever seen a pizza cutter cut a pizza?... this looks a little scary.

  • Dude, your shoulders are looking bigger. Good job. What do you do for them these days?

  • doesnt look safe at all when you have sweaty palms...

  • scott, excellent vid, dude. as someone who has worked out for years, it's helpful to see something that addresses inner chest and outside the standard cable-crossover solution. thanks, man.

  • Nice one. I'm definitely gonna try this. Thanks Scott.

  • I have a question Scott; do you train (are you currently traning) with a split workout or a full body workout?

    Thanks!

  • why the fuck didnt i think of this?

  • DANGEROUS, WHAT IF YOU WANNA GO SUPER HEAVY!

  • trying this on the next chesty workout!

  • inner chest exercises woooooooow thnx man

  • "oh yeah that feels goooood" hahahah

  • awesome, i will try this:)
