  • this is briliant. i would like a talk with the asparin :P his so good :D the Best thing is, i understood him ;) Most of it.. :)

  • @mortenmhe but still a bit sad that the mann is above the women in that lang.. ;)

  • This definitely reminds me of Esperanto. Esperanto was devised to be very easy compared to other second languages and improve international relations. Having personally traveled to 34 countries and met some 20,000 people communicating in Esperanto, I recommend it. Young people learn it mostly independently on-line at lernu . net. The travel and/or sleep overnight in a thousand cities/hundred countries at private families organized by PasportaServo.

  • Great job! I just got through doing the first half of this scene (I was Don - what a verbal workout!), and it was really cool getting to see the different blocking and delivery. Actually, a few of the choices you guys made were eerily similar to the ones me and my partner made... weird.

I thought Dawn's stutter sounded a little forced at times, but otherwise, both Dawn and Don performed beautifully.

  • @vanillaskulldirector Thank you for the comment! I hope your version turned out great.

  • We're doing different small plays in groups. My friend & I chose this one, I'm playing Don. Can't wait to learn Unamunda! :)

  • Playing Don pretty soon xD

  • @Holyvampire15 same. its my first highschool production and this is the role that people will remember me for cos its such a quirky part

  • i am doing this play at my school (i am dawn) and dawn is supposed to have a stutter that ruins her life, not only every 5 minutes just a quick stutter and dawn is supposed to be more shy and the dawn in this one has great projection, but doesnt sound timid, but confident, which dawn is not. and don, i praise your performance, way to go man, you have true talent

  • Very good job. I will say it was a little bit slow at times, and Dawn's stuttering did feel a bit forced, but it was made up for by Don's performance. His was easily the best Don I've ever seen. But Dawn also did a good job, despite the stuttering aspect. All in all, a very good production.

  • @redhawk797 Thanks for the comment; it's much appreciated. :)

  • I did this play last year in theatre. I enjoyed it a lot. :)

  • At first, I didn't really like the Dawn, but her characteristics became more natural as the scene went along.

Don has great diction, in regards to Unamunda.

    I really like the blocking.

I get to perform as Dawn in a couple of days :)

  • I'm playing Don soon. yay

  • she seems like she is gonna b sick...i like our version better

  • Thanks! Where can we see your version?

  • I like this version, but I guesss I liked the people that did it at Alma College better.

  • You guys, very long, too long and very boring! Nothing funny at all. People laughing not because it was funny but because they didn't understand!

  • Thanks for the positive comment! :)

  • Great job- your Don did especially well!

  • im doing this for my drama class XD im dawn

its pretty hard.. but i think its easier being dawn cause most of it follows off what don said but once dawn starts speaking unamunda.. oh la la its hard :P

  • I know, I'm Dawn in the school play and it's tough!!

  • I think the woman playing dawn wasn't right. Dawn is shy, not stupid. She always sounded like she was complaining or had to pee. But it was a nice performance anyway :)

  • I'm going to be playing Dawn in my school's production and just got the script. This clears up so much. Thank you. A great performance, especially from the Don.

  • this was some pretty awesome acting and dadarklord is a butt head for randomly bashing and you

i'll be playing don and it is hard..as for memorizing lines... first find out what each of your lines mean in english..then find the common words in unumunda and then put it all together... hard to memorize..mostly because you don't know whats next..all the unumunda is supposed to sound very similar to english..i didn't like Dawn though..she acted like a five year old...

  • Ahh David Ives is amazing...insane but amazing. Anyway I am going to be playing Don in an upcoming performance and I was wondering if you had any tips on memorizing lines. Every time I sit down to just work on it I end up running for the Tylenol for the headache I get from reading my lines. PLEASE respond with some tips on how to memorize this VERY tricky play. This looks like a very good performance by the way. Cornganulations!

  • bad director....

  • hahahahaha! bad comment. ;)

    Why do you say that?

  • hey im dawn and im haveing troble memorizeing with the diffrent language anytips on how you did please?

  • It certainly is tough, but I would work on the meaning behind the jibberish. Make sure you also break down your lines, beat by beat, and figure out what each line translates to.

    Break a leg!

  • you took that surprisingly well.

Actually I realized how inflammatory that sounded after it came out. I'm sorry if it offended anyone.

I probably just like mine more cause I'm in it after all. :)

  • woooooow this version is sooo much worse that the one I'm in. Dawn's stutter is horrible. Don sounds like a stereotypical Italian and he messes up sooooo many words.

I'm playing Don this week in my school's production. It will be a lot better than this version. Expect video proof later.

  • Haha, ouch! Strong words, but I'm still very proud of what our actors accomplished. This is NOT an easy piece. Can't wait to check out your version. :)

  • is that sandy chen?

  • i did this play about 10 months ago. i was dawn. it was such a hilarious play, and i got an award for best actress in a comedy for it!

  • I got cast as Dawn!yay!

  • my skewl did this play. it was pretty cool.

  • haha ill be playing don even though im a chick :)

  • I'm playing don and I have to be off book tomorrow :(. Does anyone know where I can find a script online? I lost mine :(

  • This video gave me alot of ideas on how best to play don. I have to perform it in 3 weeks. Thanks for posting it.

  • he did mess up a few words(im playing don in this play)...but good acting otherwise...

  • im thinking of doing this for compition where did you find the script? ive been serching and cant find it

  • This is an EXCELLENT rendition of this play! I may get a chance to direct a rendition of this show soon (or at least, I'm considering it very strongly) and this has helped me immensely to begin seeing my own version. Bonanza bleeny, da yu di doobly.

  • Thank you very much! And good luck if you end up directing. :)

  • i just got cast as Don in this...its gonna be hard! im excited though!

  • Congrats and break a leg!

  • I was reading David Ive's "Sure Thing" the other day and I just happened to look this up, but WOW that was a great performance. If you can make anybody understand what you're saying without it being a real language, that has to be great acting. I loved this performance of the universal language. I hope to maybe do this sometime.

  • OMG I did this like 3 weeks ago and in rehersal I thought it was totally stupid and so did my acting partner. And now it's one of my favorite plays I've ever done. It's mainly because of the audience reception to it. I also did Trotsky and I enjoyed that but I LOVE Universal Language and I really respect David Ives for this. People were like omg you did so great did you make it up. I was so happy with the final result.

  • wow, david ives, doo warf brlijantte.

  • wow this is amazing! I was just helping my friend with his lines today, and its awesome to see them so well played out!

  • great! I haven't seen many interpretations of it but this is the greatest one yet. Everything is very natural! :)

  • Glad you enjoyed it. :)

  • The two performers were wonderful to watch. Very natural. I wish there were more people in the audience to appreciate it and add a little laughter. Good job!

  • Thank you so much for the kind words!

  • Oh my galosh! Thank you for posting this up! I am doing this piece with my partner for forensics, which is a bit harder since we can't look or touch each other and we can't have props, but anywhos, I couldn't quite get the grasp of it at some parts! This video helped a bunch! I shall share this with my partner tomorrow! Again, thanks very much!

  • You're very welcome, and break a leg on your forensics ;)

  • Thanks! We got second place for regionals (one below states) -- we so could've landed first if that judge in the last round didn't bum us. But anyway, we got to states but we didn't place there but we went to states!

  • I directed this play in High school. My Don later told me that he knows all the Unamunda lines but forgot everything that was in English.

  • Ha, that's funny. After directing the play, I couldn't help but say things like, "Come intern" and "Calamari" and "No Nabisco". My friends thought I was crazy. ;)

  • VERY impressive!

  • Intellectually stimulating!
