I have the US version of this phone. Trust me. The hardware isn't worth any money at all. It is very outdated, and you will end up buying an extended battery, get this version. Trust me, you won't regret it.
what is really crap about all these i phones is their wireless is only good for 10 metres,i have seen people make wireless travel up to 1 mile, when you rig the Tx for longer coverage, you can control mostly anything, but you cant recieve, becasue the Rx is not set up as the same.for example if you have a phone that is set up for 1 mile, and another phone for 10 metres, the one with the longer coverage can send messages, but the reciever wont be able to transmit back to control error control......
My opinion for Iphone lovers and I use the Iphone. The Iphone is Still the fastest and more responsive, Apple really did great job here (Better processor though), Still have a lot more software available (for the moment),Screen is a little nicer. On the other hand the I-phone is far behind in term of, Interface : where the Hero has a huge advanced with an incredible personalization.
from an unbiased view, i find your summary a little biased. having seen both phones side by side, the hero's screen is honestly a tad nicer, though not much
also, the iphone is so smooth for a reason. it only does 1 thing at a time. if you want to run a hero like an iphone (1 thing at time) then obviously it will be as smooth as the iphone. i cant even check my messages on the iphone without quitting the browser ffs
htc have been addressing the speed problems. its now smooth. i cant wait till
Not true dude. I have a jailbroken iPhone running multiple programs with multifl0w enabled and even switching through them is still FAR quicker than anything on the Hero or the Palm Pre.
The Hero is a great phone, but because of the speed, I could never use it instead of my iPhone.
um it's not the same thing. Android doesn't have an interface that switches through apps in "cards" like multifl0w provides. The iPhone 3G by the way actually multitasks just as well as the Hero. :/
Android is the future. Thanks Apple for getting the toys out and showing everyone how wonderful a user interface can be, but now it's time for the adults to take it somewhere usable by other adults.
I don't think Android is the most adult OS out there. It's still trying to be iPhone OS, and adults who try desperately to look younger are just that - desperate. :)
I didn't say anything about adults trying to "look younger". The UI is about bringing practicality to a mobile device so that it works like a laptop. Apple now has a lot of catching up to do in many ways. Android isn't perfect yet but it's paving the way for the future in a way that Apple were a year or so ago.
Android isn't trying to be the iPhone OS. It has a similar fluidity on the surface, but beyond that it has much better multitasking, and has a completely different way of letting you customise your applications and widgets according to the different needs you might have at different times of the day or in different places. As a professional office device rather than a nifty music player, Android is in a much better place.
Contacts management : where the interaction is amazing on the hero. Menus : which are much more organized and easy to use.Virtual Keyboard : where HTC Hero did a great job I-phone is far behind. Handiness : because the integration of googlemap, googlecalendar, googlecontact, gmail, facebook, tweeter makes the phone really handy.Compatibility : the HTC Hero has Flash :-),Open source: the OS Android isnt app-lock
The Verizon version of this in the U.S., the HTC Droid Eris, is black and doesn't have that odd raised edge at the bottom. It looks much better. I have one, and it's a great phone to use. I like the UI better than iPhone OS's.
Yeah the Hero reviewed here is the better design I think. The Sprint one is a dumbed-down-for-Americans version. For people who like their phones to look like Nike trainers!
It's a great phone, shame so many Apple idiots here are so blinded be the reality distortion field. The iPhone is very nice device, but it's not the be all and end all, it has many faults.
no, no no, compass? no gps like iphone. trackball? to fill with dirt?
you showed weather widget loading for a minutee but it never loaded. hit the bookmark button 4 times before it opened. you keep cutting the video to make it looks like it loads faster, like when you showed youtube.
the only good things about this phone is the parts that copy apple, but it is a lot slower,
trackball, will be useless in a wek, like the old apple mice, I don't love apple but this is not the iphone killer
It has compass, it has GPS, and the trackball is quite handy if you want to go up and down a tiny menu rather than select from the screen with your fingers. It adds an option, it doesn't mean the screen isn't perfectly good on its own.
The phone is a lot faster than this review makes it look, as well. The weather widget updates perfectly quickly for example, it's only when you first turn the phone on it takes a little longer to grab from the wifi connection.
Surprisingly slow loading browser, especially since you were connected via wireless. And the weather widget took so long you could just get up and walk outside faster than you could load that up.
My habi bought one 'Hero' play with for a week, now is in the drawer. He said comparing with the iPhone 3G, the will go for the iPhone. Recently his new toy is the Sony Ericsson 'Satio' very good photo and faster then then 'Hero'.
the 5 who disliked it wish that they have a htc hero

multifl0w is by no means 'smooth'. its choppier than the hero, on my 3g anyway
freebiemadguy123 2 years ago
On last years hardware, yes it's slow. Duh.

and yet the hero manages to do a much better job on the same hardware...

u mean it playes music in the background.. ya cool, the iphone notification system is complete garbage though, it just pops up out of no ware...
NorcoRider104 2 years ago
No, I'm talking about jailbroken, full multitasking...
And yes the iphone's notification system
blows, but there are actually jailbreak apps to replace that as well.

I find the old Hero WAAAAY better looking than the Sprint Hero or the Eris.
I think they made it look so plain. The original design was unique and beautiful.

The trackball is not at all necessary to use, it's just a convenience. I find it nice for selecting links in the browser.
manjyoumethunder 2 years ago

@feckingbillgates only bad thing about the trackball is that you can get debris in it, and it causes it not to function anymore :\
Its somewhat common with Blackberries
Im sure with AppKiller this device would seem ALOT faster than it is in this video :)
Cant wait til March so i can get my hands on this!!
