  • Nice Job, Im sure the Electric Bill is a bit Bumpy but Im sure a bite out of Riped Tomatoes on Feb. Will Pay its self off

  • i guess your down south, must have a big electric bill with those heaters, i saw a hoop house similar to yours and they had two plastic walls with a few inches separating them with air, working as insulation, maybe that will keep them from frost damage on tomatos

  • @GORT192 That is exactly the configuration of my greenhouse. I have 2 layers with at least 1-2" space between them. The problem with the damaged leaves came when the plants were actually touching the walls pressing that 1-2" bearier down to nothing and the temps went down to 12-14 degrees outside for several days. All of the plants are recovering nicely since I moved them away from the walls.

I live near Memphis TN so I not exactly down south but we don't endure extended frigid temps here.

  • @GORT192 My power bills are about 5 to 10 dollars per month this year than last winter for this house so it doesn't cost all that much to play in the dirt in the winter!

  • WOW, tomatoes in February! Great gardening. You are really making this hoophouse work for you. Thank you for sharing and I will be watching for your new videos. I bet you are counting down the days until you are in your new home.

  • @dkulikowski Yes we are, however it wont be until sometime in August. Thanks for watching!

  • It's so cool to see ripe tomatoes this time of the year. I'm also in zone 7 and I need to get some sort of greenhouse going.

    Regards, Gary

  • @garygardens Its less than a 200$ investment and you can build it in a weekend. Some of the best money that I've ever spent.

  • Nice Vlog Chuck all is looking good.

  • @StatenIslandSlim Thanks Slim!

  • It has been 80*F here in central Florida very light winter growing out side only had to cover the plants twice so far but a lot of tomatoes coming

  • @RCvolunteer1978 I love your climate there but not the soil. I had a grandmother in Clearwater, an uncle near Destin and a best friend in Miami. They pretty much had to import dirt to grow anything. My uncle grows everything in containers. Thanks for watching!

  • @cfenster That is right 100% you have compost and mix soil from ANYWHERE Else but Florida's but there is large pockets of Sugar sand that is totally worthless other than mixing it with concrete to make the blocks to building most of our bigger buildings

But I have seen hurricane force winds blow away parts of buildings that had the wrong amount of Sand to concrete Besty 1964 David 1978 Andrew 1992 And the four in 2004 good luck with your plants !

  • Good job Chuck... I've got cabin fever... lets garden!

  • @bradgray51 The weather teases us every now and then doesn't it. I hope that some of this rain we've been getting comes around in August this year though! Take Care Brad!

  • Those ripe tomatoes looked good. They had a nice red color. How do they taste, compaired to summer tomatoes? Keep it growin"

  • @scottmanb2005 They taste the same to me... maybe even better bacause I know that I am eating something that almost nobody gets at this time of year! Thanks Bro!

  • Very good. Keep us informed..

  • @Teddybearcop48 Thanks, I will!

  • Wow great job on the green house! I bet it sure helps make the winter go by a little easier!

  • @gardenvespers777 IT really does make it almost bearable. I still long for Spring! Thanks for checking in!

  • Thats awesome Chuck. I like the setup with the table and checkered tablecloth...sweet. Bring in a small fridge and the dog would have to find somewhere else to sleep ! :-)

  • @mhpgardener Shhhh! Mom doesn't know I took it! ;) Good thing she never watches my videos... She see's enough of the dirt on my clothes when she does the laundry!

I planted some regular straight 8 cukes since I have alot of those seeds. I plan to start some of those self pollinators that you sent me once it warms up more. I just know that a real bitter cold snap could sneak up on me and wipe me out. I dont want to waste those seeds. God Bless You Brother!

  • Love your stuff, I want a tomato too. lol Your dog did what!! Too funny. Glad to hear from you, thought you would have had something to say about my last videos. Is that the apple tree you had in your office?

  • @loislaney23 The Apple trees are some that Daniel planted a couple of months ago. I planted Lemon trees at work... They are about 1/4 that tall but pretty little things none the less.

  • Looks good...Do you know how cold it got in there on the coldest night? What was the low about 20?

    God Bless!

  • @OurFreedomGarden It said that it was 16 on the news but my thermometer said 12. I was able to keep it at about 40 in the GH but the plants that were close or touching the sides of the GH were damaged. Next time I pull them to the center of the GH! :-)

  • it has been a while! keep more video comign! I love them!

  • @MIgardener Thanks Luke, I hope to be more consistant for the rest of the near until about October / November thru Mid to late January of next year. I work at the world Technology Center for FedEx and the Christmas season is brutal on our infrastructure. BTW there is a Santa Claus but he doesn't ride in a Sleigh!!! He flies in big white planes with purple tailfins and rides in Step Vans and 18 wheelers that say FedEx on them! Take care borther!
