  • Thank you very much i was knitting one 2x2 ribbing scarf this method of casting off or binding was helpful to me ... :-) thanx alot once again !!!

  • Could you please do a demo series for the various ways to cast off/bind off? Currently I only know the method you showed here (which can be used with any pattern). However, I really don't like the way it clashes with Two-Tail cast on. They just don't match well at all. =(

  • Thank you so much!!

  • How about for just 1x1 ribbing? (:

  • @flipinay22

it would be the same for all ribbing.

  • Hello Thank you for this video. Is this the same as casting off loosely in rib? Thank you :-)

  • @carapot

SOME PEOPLE CALL IT BINDING OFF, OTHERS CALL IT CASTING OFF.

  • Hi what kind of cast on did you use? it looks really stretchy.

  • @bansalnimraj

I used my favorite cast on. You can watch it on my 2 videos CASTING ON or CASTING ON SLOW VERSION..

  • Your demo really put the rib bind-off in perspective to me. Thanks so much for your help!!

  • @joanb195

I;m so glad the video helped. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • Why do you have to slip the first stitch? I haven't seen that in any other video or pattern?

  • @darkautumnleaves

go to my channel and watch my videos E-MAIL QUESTIONS. I explain a lot of questions including yours.

  • Hi Judy,

My name is Judy too! I am from the UK. Thank you for uploading your video - very handy, especially for a newby like me.

I was wondering if you could show us a way where we can cast on the same look as the ribbing cast off?

I have just completed my first scarf, but noticed that my cast on pattern and cast off is very different, I would love to know a cast on method that matches your ribbing cast off so both sides of my scarf look the same.

    Many thanks in advance Judy!!

  • @judymenyenng888

    Hi Judy,

I have always used the same casting on method. with no problem. I will look into a ribbing cast on. Keep watching. Look for me on facebook too!

  • why do you slip the first stitch?

  • Thanks Judy, I sat and watched it a few times but I got the hang of it; again thank you

  • can you go slower, please!!!??? You are very fast, I can't see the stitches clearly. Thank you!

  • @FuryoMusume

sorry I went too fast for you. you just bind off in knit, then switch to bind off in purl. you can watch my other videos, How to Bind off a Knit row and How to Bind off a Purl row to see how to do each of them.

  • Thank you! The demo was very clear and helpful. Now I see what i've been doing wrong and can correct it. Great for my new scarf.

  • @goldstep999

glad the video helped. please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • Can this be modified to bind off a 1x1 ribbing?

  • @lyssarae7129 Yes, your instincts are right. You can use this for 1x1 ribbing. And yes, you must modify it a bit. Basically, pretend you're continuing the ribbing and KPKPKP. What makes this a bind-off is that every time you have two stitches on the right needle, you pass the old stitch over the new stitch and leave just one stitch on the right needle. I find I still need to use larger needles to get a nice stretchy bind-off though. I'm just a bit of a tight knitter.

  • @lyssarae7129

your comment on this was perfect!

  • I don't get the purl knit purl knit can you help break it down?

  • @maddie19981

Do you mean you don't get how to do it? if so, watch my video on how to do ribbing. Or, do you mean you don't get how to bind of ribbing. If so,keep watching that video over and over.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy Ur wayyyyyyyy to fast!!!!

  • Im trying to figure out how to end a project. Can you help??

  • @maddie19981

what is the project that you're trying to finish?

  • thank you!! that helped a lot. just finished a 2 by 2 ribbed scarf made with wool ease thick and quick :D first time ribbing too.

  • @danatan79

congratulations on finishing a ribbed scarf. you must be good at ribbing now! please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • Do you always drop the first stitch when you start to knit any project?

  • @tv52kiki

pretty much always. watch my video e-mail questions answered and where I talk about slipping the first stitch. Please keep watching.

  • @tv52kiki it makes a braid on the side

  • thank you so much. i am new to knitting and i wonder that what kind of yarn should i use to knit a scarf?

  • @nguyenchicong6000

I would suggest a nice, even worsted weight. Go to the yarn store to see what you like. Not too thin though because that will take you too long to finish. Medium or thick weight is good. Use needles according to what the label on the yarn suggests. good luck.

  • I love you.

  • @pplouu

thank you for the love. happy knitting!

  • fantastic! I have attempted this many times and see my mistake!! Thank you great training video easily understood! Thank you so much! I will be back!!!!!!

  • @DDbRowN67

thank you. yes, please keep watching more videos. so much to learn.

  • oh pls help me !!!

i need help at school i need tah you do not fast much cry

  • Hello there! I am new to knitting and I seen you slip the first stitch off without doing any kind of stitch....do you do this to anything you are knitting? I notice that on my practice pieces, the sides all look messy....it is because I am knitting a stitch in the first stitch?

Thanks for the video...it is great!

  • @ilvmakindolls

Yes, I always slip the first stitch and knit the last one through the back to make a neater and tighter selvedge. Please keep watching. New video today.

  • In your earlier ribbing video you didn't slip the first stitch. This is really confusing.

  • @iSharShar

you're right. when I first started making my videos I thought it would be confusing to new knitters to watch a slip stitch. I wish now I hadn't done it that way. Sorry for the confusion.

  • @imaprettygurl1

the yarn in that video is Brown Sheep Nature Spun Sport. some of the yarns I use are for sale at Ravelry.

  • I love your videos!! I'm a first year student in dental school, and I've recently taken up knitting as hobby...and it's keeping me sane through all the studying!!!

I just had a question about when you slip the first stitch. Do you slip it purlwise every time so it's not twisted, or do you alternate slipping it knitwise and purlwise depening on which row you are on?

    Thanks so much!

  • @ninjajep

I slip it knit wise on knit rows and purl wise on purl rows. that makes it easy.

thanks for your nice note. please keep watching. we don't want any insane dentists out there :)

  • Judy

with binding off ribbing i have two questions and if you can answer them that would help me a lot!

    1. with the binding off do you k2 that need to be purled and purl the ones that have to be knitted

and 2. do you have to bind off when you start with k2 or purl2

  • No, you knit the knits and purl the purls.

  • jduy, thanks for uploading all these videos.....i know how to knit now.....thanks

  • Excellent demo video Judy! Thank you very much. :))

  • Is this what it means when a pattern says, "Cast off in pat." ??

  • Yes it is :)

  • what is d size of the needle you use for knitting rib stitch?? i have done what you have taught, but it seems different... so confusing......

  • Oh~ forgot to mention that I knit continental~ just to let you know!

  • Hi, I'm making fingerless mitts, and I bound of like your showing, but it came out very tight, so I don't know what I'm doing wrong! I'm using Kroy sock yarn, can you please tell me what to do? Thanks so much~ Dora :)

  • When I did my first videos I didn't want to confuse people by slipping the first stitch since they are just learning how to knit, but I always do slip the first stitch so on my later videos that's what you see.

Good luck with your knitting. Remember that practice makes perfect.

  • I also have a question about slipping the first stitch. First off, why do I do it; second, if I were on a purl row, would I slip then as well? Your videos are the absolute best! Books are too confusing for me, so I have learned everything I know from you. Please keep'em comin' !

  • I slip the first stitch because that makes a cleaner salvage with no bumps. You would slip the first stitch on the purl row as well.

Thanks for your nice comment and do keep looking for new videos. I put one up yesterday.

  • Hi Judy, how do I decide if I should slip with the yarn in the front or the back? Does it have to do with where I want the yarn to end up on the next stitch?

  • Hi, your videos are very helpful! But I'm a little confused about something.

In this video you slipped the first stitch on your last k2, p2 row, and then you cast off. But in your "How to Knit: Rib Stitch" video, you didn't slip the first stitch in the row.

Can you explain why there's a difference? I'm new to knitting and need all the help and explaining I can get! :)

  • Judy,

I was wondering if you could make a video on putting the yarn in front/back. If you could that would be great. I love your videos. Thank you!

  • I love your videos! Very helpful, thanks!

  • glad I could help. happ knitting!
