yeah sorry about mistakes, i think now you know this music much better than this videos because i practise this piece one year after play piano (but i had many years of conservatory when i was young) well, is not a joke it s a truth and it s difficult piece but not impossible, and after i play op 23 n ° 5 in g minor
however conservatory ia a good thing but finally not really because you can do lear this peace with your heart not mecanikely
I can imagine that the agigitato part would sound magical too if played lento... rachmanioff himself did it to one piece of scriabin ...allegro agitato to lento...sounded magical
I tried the RX2 piano in a shop 2 weeks ago. Although spending an hour playing it, I convinced myself not to buy it even when I've completely fallen in love with it. 2 weeks later, after 3 dreams and constantly having it stirring in my mind, I called the shop today and bought it! I cannot wait for it to arrive, and can't wait to re-learn this prelude and play it on my first ever grand piano! AH! SO EXCITED YET SO NERVOUS!
Hows the COnservatory going? I was wondering if your piano is the Kawai RX2? Your vid came up in my search for the RX2. I just bought my RX2! Had it tuned and voiced today. I was as nervous as hell. He did a good job - still not sure about some of the voicing - some of the bass notes were a bit bright and I had them toned down to remove the high partials that were annoying. How is your RX sounding? Sounds good here. Keep in touch man!
Hey ! It's pretty hard at the conservatory my teacher makes me work a lot, but i'm starting to feel the changes :) Concerning the rx2 I thought it was a bit bright too in the upper level but after a year playing it I think it sounds much better,it was also brand new when we bought it. I think it is a real good piano for the price, you made the right choice buying it. :)
Hi, Well done! I'm working on this C sharp Minor Prelude too. It's heaps of fun too! I would suggest, from a teacher's point of view.. that you employ more of the whole arm stroke in those big chords and bass octaves. My teacher taught me the importance of the whole arm stroke - from the shoulder - it is really powerful and rewarding to do. Don't rush this piece - listen to the richness of the chords. And try to produce more difference in the dynamic range from ppp to fff. Fantastic memory work!
Hi, thanks for the feedback on my playing. I recorded this prelude almost a year ago and since then I've entered the conservatory and my technique has changed a lot, hopefully I'll record new videos in the next few days :)
Ever think about trying smaller pieces to help technique. I mean it just blows me away that someone who has been playing for a year and a half could tackel a Rach prelude. You are very good but try to consider smaller pieces just for practice and technique. I dont see how your technique can fully develop in that short a time. Good job :)
thanks that's good advice! My teacher and I usually work technique in relation to pieces to make it more interesting but I also play shorter pieces to focus more on technical problems. It is indeed hard on the body to start playing piano so late, the wrists and fingers are stiffer than a 6 years old :/ Any way I like challenge too, I'm working on rach's op.23 n.5 at the moment. thanks
Hi there! I want to first congratulate you on the great achievement!
This is a nice performance. But I did have a comment on the interpretation - I've noticed that Rachmaninoff has a very thick and romantic quality about his music...your interpretation sounds a little thin.
I Certainly cannot compare myself to rach's playing or any professional pianist, I lack experience, technique and musicality, but I'll continue to work on it to improve it and record it again soon ! thanks for the comment
if you go to iduesman and joos version of "rachmaninoff had big hands" on youtube, he uses these big sticks...since you are the only one who plays this on youtube, what the hell are they doing?
I have a question, I have a Yamaha B1 silent piano and I am looking for a device to get good recording. I am interested in the Zoom H2 and I see and hear that you use it, the sound it super. My question is the following, did you connect the zoom H2 to your videocamera and use it as its microfone or did you make 2 seperate recordings?
Hey Patrick I used a cheap webcam for the video and recorded with the Zoom seperatly. I used Adobe premiere to mix audio and video. Hope this helps. cheers

The piano has amazing sound. Nothing can compare to the sound of grand piano.
And your playing. Wow! I can hear some mistakes but it's still great to listen.
And Rachmaninoff is the best!
