Sometimes Beat Happening reminds me more of Garage Punk than "twee pop" or whatever cutesy label is usually given to them... this is true for the song Bewitched especially.
Same approach you deaf fool. A single note riff repeated over and over with the guitar hitting accents in the exact same place. Then change to a higher key. It was definitely influnced by YMG. Don't even fucking kid yourself son.
Maybe the HOTTEST song of Calvin's band, it really TURNS ME ON as the album itself. A silly question: how is it called in the US that small act of Calvin when spinning the bottle? In my country it is called "The Drunken Bottle", a hazardous game we played when we were kids... please let me know about it!
Sigh... I wish I wasn't 11 years old when this was going on.
The big difference between 80's-early 90's indie and late 90's to present indie, was exposure. You had to work so hard and make no money to get this point, and MTV would play this video once at like 3 a.m.
Now you just upload to myspace and youtube. No cassette tapes being traded, no looking in a mom and pop record store for hours.
Calvin Johnson is sooooo hot. Goddamn.

THE PASTELS
VASELINES
YOUNG MARBLE GIANTS

This is a fucking rip off of credit in the straight world. Calvin u don't have me fooled son.

It sounds nothing like Credit in the Straight World.
ryankent1984 2 years ago
this doesn't sound that much like Young Marble Giants...
The two bands have completely different sounds.
cholocharile 2 years ago
not the sound. but the approach to the main musical idea. it's not a rip off. i just think it was influenced by it.
roejogan8 2 years ago
then why did you say it was a rip off?
just next time be more clear with your comments.

i thrive on confusion. i feel like a jig-saw puzzle missing a peice, and i'm not even sure what the picture should be.

This is way too overproduced. LOL
