@Davycrockett2 not to bust your bubble buddy but i have taken several american bison that were all shot at ranges of 75 to a 150 yards with a remington 870 pump 12 guage shooting horandy sst slugs and all went down within 25 yards just because alot of people don't hunt with a slug gun some people do.
Looks suspiciously like an Indian elephant to me !
Not African !
African elephants have a more sloped forehead and are not amenable to training for a movie like this. Indian elephants, the ones you'd see in a circus, are trainable.
I suspect an animal rights involvement here with the, " Sorry girl ", line !
@Zipito06 12 Gauge, loaded with 3" Brennekee slugs would destroy any elk, they are used in alaska for kodiak bear defence, on pair with .45-70 in tearms of power (but worse in penetration and range)
Don't even start with me bud. I'll make you look stupid like the last guy.
African big game or American bison for example are NOT hunted with shotgun slugs dumb-ass!
I've seen the other hunting comment you placed on the moose/bear video and you are 100% ignorant; just another fucking moron Commiefornian running his mouth that doesn't know SHIT about hunting.
@DavyCrockett2 Made me look stupid? Fucking hell, read my comments again, I AGREED WITH YOU 100%, all I pointed out was that shotguns CAN be used for big game hunting when rifles are not available, BUT that they are much worse for doing the job and if you have a choise you should always go for rifle, you seem to claim that shotguns can ONLY be used for bird hunting, which is not true, they make a decent (but not rifle replacing) big game hunting weapon as well
Nice old British made "Cape Gun" of "Cape Rifle" shotgun on the right, rifle on the left! Look carefully! Barrel on the right is larger (shotgun).
Crockett is correct in that there are "double rifles", however, this weapon is a Cape Gun, both shotgun and rifle in one. BTW, in Africa commonly the "minimum" caliber for hunting "dangerous" game is .375. Good hunting!
Actually, to finish off a wounded smaller animal (leopard, antelope, etc.) or maybe for a smaller *charging* animal, I might prefer the slugs/maybe buckshot over the big rifle. The big rifle on the smaller animal is over-kill and will over-penetrate and not deliver all it's energy like a slug will.
Die deutsche Bezeichnung ist "Büchsflinte" - 0:05 der kleine Lauf (hier rechts) ist für die Kugel, der große Lauf (hier links) ist für Schrot gedacht.
The smaler barrel (right sight, in the picture) is for a single bullet. The barrel with the bigger diameter is for shotgun ammunition. I don´t know the english word for this gun - only the german word. But it is unusual that the shotgunbarrel is on the right and the single barrel is on the left - normaly it is inverted.
Takes quite a bit to penetrate elephant skull from frontal shot. 12 bore slugs work better on game up to buffalo size at close range(25-45yrds) because if they don't penetrate they will cause massive muscle damage and may fracture leg or ribs which in either case will stop most anything.
WHEN are you stupid mall ninjas and liberal morons going to stop thinking you know ANYTHING about guns or hunting!?!
*YOU DO NOT HUNT BIG GAME WITH A SHOTGUN*
You use a big caliber RIFLE that will actually penetrate. An elephant will not drop from shotgun buckshot 99% of the time, slugs would be a weak alternative; about 1/2 the foot lbs. of your 400-500s rifles.
@DavyCrockett2 Never said they where as good as rifles, of course they are not, but you said shotguns CAN'T be used for big game hunting, which they can
@DavyCrockett2 And btw you are so wrong about slugs to. Google Box-of-truth and then cheack out their bullet-proof glass test, you can clearly se that the .308, a very commen big game hunting round fails to penetrate but the 12-gauge shotgun slugs goes through like nothing
1,) The .308 is the second most used big game hunting round used in NA, there are more animals than just elephants belonging in the big game category
2.) You are right, bullet proof glass is a lot tougher than flesh, if a bullet can penetrate that, flesh is no problem, and infact high velocoty rounds (like rifle rounds) loose energy much quicker than low velocity rounds (like slugs) upon contanct with solid
@DavyCrockett2 12-Gauge shotguns loaded with slugs is the most commen back-up weapon in africa, yes a rifle is the better hunting weapon but if you wound the elephant and want to put it down quickly as it is charging you, nothing beats a shotgun with slugs. 12-gauge shotguns are also by far the most common ddefence weapon in alaska for bears, note defensive weapon, not hunting weapon. Rifle needs to be accurate and on target to kill, shotguns can put down huge ammounts of lead in short time
The main thing I don't like about slugs is, even in a rifled barrel, they are not accurate in my opinion. They are mostly a short range defensive weapon in my opinion.
Also, for a charging animal, slugs are decent. A large caliber rifle, .458 Lott and up, wins every time though. They have over double the foot pounds, litereally.
Also, with *penetration* through soft tissue, the large caliber rifle is king. Period.
@DavyCrockett2 Yepp accuracy is pretty bad in slugs, unless you use a rifled barrl, but then you might just as well use a rifle. You know foot pounds of energy really isn't that important as far as stopping power goes. 00 Buck puts out about as much energy as a .308 does but still has nowhere near the killing power, infact even a crossbow bolt fired at 330 feet a second has more stopping power than that simply beacuse it penetrates so much more, talking about thick skinned animals now
Actually the crossbow/bow have the worst 'stopping' power, but some of the most destructive damage. The only thing is it takes time to bleed for the effects to be seen.
@DavyCrockett2 and yeat again, this time please listen. I HAVE NOT ONCE SAID THAT SHOTGUNS ARE BETTER BIG GAME HUNTING WEAPONS THAN RIFLES, JUST POINTED OUT THAT IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD A RIFLE, OR LIKE HUNTING WITH SHOTGUNS, SLUGS WILL WORK FINE ON EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE VERY LARGEST AFRICAN GAME
@DavyCrockett2 If by a shotgun you meant a shoulder fired firearm that fired multiple projectiles, than you're absolutely right. If however by a shotgun you meant a smooth-bore firearm (preferably a large caliber one like an 8 or 4 gauge) firing a single hardened projectile, than actually the majority of hunters up to the mid 19th century preferred such a weapon to rifles for elephant hunting. A smooth-bore is a very versatile weapon, mind you.
@DavyCrockett2 Double barrel rifles have equal barrels, this is not a double rifle, it's one rifle barrel, one shotgun barrel, and yes, shotguns may not be all that great against big game, although slugs make for a mean gun, nothing like a good centerfire rifle though, but I suppose if that is all you have
@DavyCrockett2 That was some kind of old double hammer drilling, combination small calibre rifled barrel and probably smooth bore shot gun. As to the charge "You do not hunt big game with a shotgun" I would point out that 12 and 10 ga shotguns using brenneke (since 1898) slugs put down a lot of elephants and cape buffalo. Mostly used by african villagers.
I think it is a rifle shotgun combo. They are common in Europe. I think it is because they are so stupidly restrictive on gun ownership. Drillings are cool though. Usually two shotgun over one rifle or two rifle over one shotgun. This is film is so fake. Straight propaganda.
not a drilling, DRIlling gomes from german "drei", which means "three" and has 2 shotgun and one rifle barrel. Anyway, we see a combined weapon, that leads to the question if it would be possible to shoot an elephant with a slug.
slugs are a weak alternative ? your a fucking jackass thats a .58 caliber bullet weighing 1 fucking oz traveling 1600-1700 fps thats weak ?

WE HAVE ANOTHER 'GOOGLE EDUCATED' KNOW IT ALL LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!
If you would READ what I wrote and close your mouth you would learn something.
1.) .308 is NOT commonly used to hunt big game like elephant
2.) There is a BIG difference between penetrating bullet-proof glass and 4 feet of muscle and bone MORON.
3.) I compared slugs to .400 & .500 caliber rifles, OVER DOUBLE the power than ANY slug.
READ SOMETHING SHITHEAD.
